  2. They've seriously hired ~half my squadron over the last 5 years, to include my SQ/CC late last year. Pretty much everyone in our squadron who has applied to Delta has been hired. If there is discrimination happening in the hiring process, it hasn't impacted us. Only a few of these hires were guys who were anywhere near retirement. From what I read, the lawsuit has nothing to do with hiring but rather stuff that happened to currently employed pilots that still serve in the ARC. I go on all our deployments, almost every squadron TDY and occasionally drop a trip for mloa, and I haven't felt at all targeted or discriminated against. Then again, I did not get hired and immediately drop multiple years of orders...I actually enjoy the hell out of this gig and being a true part-timer.

  4. For someone applying to a flying position, I'd think the odds of a waiver are not good. IBS and flying are just not compatible.

  5. Yes because of the tax law changes for 2019. 22% withheld from $35k instead of 25% like 2018. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  6. And half of those that stay will get passed over and probably walk with their BRS.

  7. Who are you applying to that cares about ACSC? Getting a Project Manager cert, CDL, HVAC license, or iPhone screen repairman online degree would likely make you 10x more desirable than ACSC.

  8. The supplemental withholding rate (rate DFAS uses for bonus payments) was decreased from 25% to 22% by the IRS in 2018 as a result of the tax cuts. Your last check might have been at the higher rate depending on your anniversary date. Should be pretty easy to calculate.

  9. But hey, at least a little common sense broke out and they did the patch reverse on the OCPs rather than the bag!

  10. I'm an '05 guy and I'm not doing it. I'm in the Guard though, so that probably doesn't help you much. 🍻 I gave up way too many beautiful weekend afternoons while on Active Duty writing useless papers for an even more useless MBA that I really didn't need/want in the first place. I practiced bleeding with SOS in correspondence so that I could go in residence. About the only good that came from that was that I learned that I needed to get off AD ASAP. There's no way in hell I'm going to spend the next few years with that constant nagging of having to do some stupid module for ACSC. For what - an extra $300-$600 a month in 20 years? I've got way to much other fun stuff I need to do when I'm not giving up my days off from the airline to knock out NVG currencies and SABC.

  11. Man...I sure hope as many '05 year group dudes skipped ACSC as this forum seems to imply. Because like I already said - I want to get promoted. I don't have an airline job waiting for me. I took the bonus, so I'm here until I retire. And I'd prefer if the Air Force didn't have the option to decline continuation and make me pay back $100K when they kick me out.

  12. Tactics, Techniques, & Procedures include: - Losing Form 9’s - Changing “color” of money - New Sq TV purchases last week of fiscal year - Official Functions: How to close for training for lunches - How to fire Civil Service employees without taking years - Jobs to obtain after your “four/five and dive” career aspirations

  14. I took the bonus. Life's not bad in my corner of the Air Force. Delta isn't hiring 12Bs, so it's not like I'm giving up a valuable airline career. I can either retire as a major, or as a LtCol. Those are the options based on decisions that I've already made. Therefore, I'd rather get the promotion and the extra pension money. Good for all of you bailing at the earliest opportunity. Good for you if you don't want to do the bullshit online course. I already did it when I got a line number to major, hoping I could get picked up for a joint school or a fellowship. Didn't work, but I also didn't exactly sink a lot of hours into it, and almost no time outside work. The way I see it, it's got more likelihood to impact my promotion chances than anything else I would have been working on in the jobs I had while completing the course online. I knew what the rules were, and I tried to play by them. I don't wish anyone ill-will for wanting to leave, but holy fuck, does it get old looking for career advice and all anyone says is "GTFO, Air Force is a sinking ship, airlines, airlines, airlines". Not exactly actionable data for guys who want to make a career out of it.

  15. That was underwhelming. The AF is just going through the motions of pretending they want things to improve, while giving lame ass excuses as to why they aren’t actually fixing anything. I’m sick of things like this (AMA, surveys, etc.). They fucking know what’s wrong. They just don’t give a shit. The generals got where they are playing the current game and without the improvements we are advocating for. So they aren’t the one that can fix this. They don’t want to fix it. McCain is gone. We need go VFR direct to Congress and force the GOs hands. Congress as a whole is a vile incompetent dumpster fire, but there are some good Reps our there. We need some top cover.

  17. You should read 13 Days to Glory by Lon Tinkle. Those guys stayed there fully expecting to be relieved by a larger Texan force. When their situation became clear, they all chose to stay and fight to bleed the Mexican army and give the new government time. It’s one of my favorite stories from the Texas Revolution, right behind San Jacinto and the ass whooping that Sam Houston put on the Mexican army. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
