  1. I hear this is the exact phrase that 17S and 1B4s say at exercises when planners want to know their effects. Not that you should talk about it on this forum but I wouldn't be surprised if cyber suffers from overclassification.

  2. I went to ACC years ago when I asked if I could fly with my custom gloss black helmet in the F-16 (from F-117 days) and was told no (by the E-9 who was responsible for the reg) because it could present an IR signature to the enemy......I am not making this up.

  3. That's comm (MSG)...not cyber (OG). Hence the 2 AFSC's like I was saying for future promotions. I'll have to update the Cyber Thread with the latest Open Source stuff that's gone on. The part about soft-power is spot on. Now I'm busy trying to deal with nerds that think "operators" (ex. pilots) don't have to manage their GTC's correctly, that OSD & COCOM/CC visits are just "ADCON getting in the way of Ops" and other such bullshit. "No, motherfucker...you can't stay at the Marriott if there's lodging available on base."

  5. The AF has a talent management problem because it continually refuses to distinguish between talents. Standby for everyone wears OCPs.

  8. C-17 and C-141 guy here. The nice thing about the C-17 is jet speeds, jet engines, travel the world, and participate in world events as they happen, like earthquakes, hurricanes, contingencies, evacuations, VIP and Presidential support. For example, I flew into Berlin as the wall was dismantled, Panama invasion, all the wars and skirmishes since 1987. Left 6 years of active duty with 4400 hrs of international heavy jet time, which the airlines love. My buds in Tankers had 1500 hrs total in the same time frame. To be fair that was during the time they sat SAC alert a lot. The nice thing about C-17 is it’s new’ish, you get to taste all missions, Airdrop, tac low level, special ops, Air refueling etc. we had a few Tanker guys transition into my Reserve squadron and they liked the challenge of the mission but complained about all the currency. Either way, if you notice the responses so far, most guys like the plane their flying and enjoy the mission. If your goal is Airlines, I think a KC-46 would be tough to beat nowadays. Good Luck

  9. I agree. When our networks are routinely down and we can’t even do the basic functions of executing the mission let alone the more complex ones, I would agree cyber will play a huge role because nothing works.

  12. lol Not for UTAs, my friend...in my experience, orders with travel were only available for Annual Tour, or for any missions that had the funding. But drill weekend? That was on me to get there. I did the non-rev thing as a ground guy. For the most part, it worked. To the OP, what you may run into is needle-dick airline personnel who don't understand what you're doing, and may try to claim that you're using your travel benefits for financial gain. If and when that happens, nuke that shit from orbit, behead the remains. I'm getting all triggered internet tough-guy over this as I ran into that exact situation and I played it soft, thinking I have to get along with my boss/employer and besides the airline making this claim wasn't even my own, it was a partner airline at my airport (on whom I was non-reving for UTA, their flights served my destination direct while mine required 1-2 connections). But the takeaway was that I wished later on that I had been much firmer and put the two station managers in touch with USERRA as mentioned above, as well as with their leadership further up the chain, airlines have extensive participation in the reserve components and some education being dropped from the executive/flying side of things would have made life much easier for me and for any other guardsmen/reservists who happened to work there later on. Meanwhile one of my jackass coworkers was non-reving up to Alaska to do commercial fishing. Okay...
