  1. I figured I’d resurrect this thread with some pics of earlier today. Fuel flows in this pic are definitely costlier than a round of golf... but well worth it.

  3. I'd say that most guys are interested recreational flying but are too cheap to put up the cash to fly. Here are a few RVs at a fly in, two air force pilots and a Army pilot.

  6. In a club flying 172/Cherokee 180/Cherokee 6 and as long as the pre-buy goes well, I should have a J-3 Cub next week. Hoping to make it out to Sentimental Journey in a few weeks. Planning on flying to the Stearman Fly-In in Galesburg, IL in September and maybe Oshkosh. I think there are only 2 of us in my squadron who love GA. YouTube Trent Palmer if you want to watch some great GA videos.

  8. I'm not sure if they bumped Unsponsored age cutoff up with the general UPT cutoff age (from 30 to 33), but I thought it was 28.. So, if not, you might be a little late to grab one of those. My .02 from the few Unsponsored dudes I know here at UPT is that it's not terrible. One got picked up before even starting UPT and the others are still in the hunt. You'll be likely shunted into T1s and leaving fighters a very long shot, but it's not impossible if you get picked up. I wouldn't rule it out if it's an option. They need meat in the seats, so my brief time on base at UPT hasn't had anyone dropping drones. But, that can always change. You have a good explanation for the college scores, but you might have to overcome the AFOQT scores, too. Your pilot is strong, and your PCSM is decent for heavies (fighters will be a stretch, I'd guess), but the other scores might on the low side for a lot of boards. I had a low Quant, so they can definitely be overcome, but you've got a few that aren't helping much. In the end, it depends on how bad you want to fly mil, no matter the airframe, or if you're set on a certain mission. Keep networking and making friends in the community; that'll help, too! Good luck!

  9. I was picked up by a reserve unit. Depending on your age i would suggest keep applying to any guard or reserve squadrons that are hiring just so you have some control of where you live. If you are getting close to max age then you can try unsponsored but if you want to fly heavies and have decent scores and resume and aren't a tool you should have your pick even if you are too old.

  10. So my family is at WPAFB and we took a decent amount of tornado damage with the Memorial Day storms. Renter's insurance is with USAA. I was pleasantly surprised with their service. I submitted a claim the day after the event. They responded and sent me a payment for spoiled food within 10 minutes of our conversation. They told me to send them a list of all personal property effected. The adjuster called me 30 minutes after I submitted the list asking if it was pre or post tax. It was pre-tax so he added another 8% or so. I received that payment within 24 hours. Overall, I was impressed with the service received.

  12. As a follow up, for anyone who’s having trouble accepting/can’t sleep at night with the thought of such a toxic and dishonest leader in our ranks, have no fear. The incoming AFSOC/CC is well known for 3 things: 1. Interpersonal skills generally associated with people on the spectrum. 2. An intense dislike of pizza, Santa, kittens, and pornography. and perhaps most importantly 3. FIRING THE SHIT out of anyone he deems an incompetent or lacking in integrity (the CAT-5 incident mentioned above being the one round off paper in an otherwise very tight shot group over 25+ years). Slife won’t give a fuck how many times scissor me timbers has been yelled or what level of diversity is represented, he’ll can her ass quicker than Clark Griswold climaxes over the thought of Light Attack in the USAF if he thinks she’s dishonest. It’ll probably work itself out.

  13. I’ll just keep answering my own questions since apparently everyone else who applied has peaced out. The official email you receive with tentative approval explicitly states you aren’t cleared to out process. The guard/reserve unit then has to endorse your 1288 and send it back to AFPC to obtain final approval. I’m waiting at that stage. PC got to AFPC on 1 March, tentative approval 30 May. 14. Unfortunately I no longer have the keys. It seems that it is exceedingly difficult to keep a two-seat sports car in the garage once you're married and your wife is still in school. At least I was able to replace it with the latter, RC8R Now, you've seen mine. Let me see yours.

  15. Yeah that's BS. It got worse for 11Us as well, from 25K for 9 years to 35K for 5 years. Seems odd that each "tier" goes down in yearly bonus amount (35k/30k/28k) while also reducing the longest contract term (13y/9y/5y), but then with the 11U/18X/RPA folks they bump the amount up to the max and limit the contract term to 5 years at the longest. My guess would be that the AF believes it can produce 18X'ers easy and fast enough to make up for losses, which it can. Therefore it doesn't need the long commitment, as opposed to those who are 11F/M/H/etc, who take years to make. Still, an 18X will have 7 years in when their 6 year ADSC is up and they are eligible for the bonus, earlier than anyone. And the longest contract is 5 years, putting them at 12 years when that bonus contract would be complete. Thats roughly around the time that 11Xs get their first shot at a bonus. Doesn't look like a plan for long term development of 18X'ers and creating organic leadership from that community.

  16. Had a young captain ask me about signing a 9 year bonus. I told him I wouldn't sign a 9 year bonus because the needs, wants, and desires of your family may change. You don't want to be trapped. He probably signed up for 9 more years. Same guy who decided to pay for lap dances by using his GPC to get cash from the gentleman's club ATM. He thought the wife wouldn't find out. She found out because he can never go TDY. He had just gotten married!
