  1. Man, would you just please go away for a while. Just switch yourself to a read-only mentality. Take a break. It's too annoying sifting through your nonsense. Thank you.

  4. They arent RV’s but beats the hell out of bending wrenches for a living. Firm believer all it takes is a good mission/purpose and all pilots would get back into GA (usually involves convincing a student/pilot to plan a X/C to a casino and they are hooked)

  5. “The source said that things reached a boiling point May 31, when Dunlop lost her temper in a meeting with senior Air Force civilians. An Air Force civilian immediately told Ellen Lord, the Pentagon's top acquisition official, about the situation in the office, the source said, and Lord walked over to the SAPCO office and removed Dunlop.” And that, boys and girls, should tell you everything you need to know about where you’re at in the food chain if your office includes GS employees.

  6. She was fired because she called people idiots and yelled at people on the phone? That just dashed my hopes of ever going further in my career.....

  7. I see this topic come up as "thread creep" in other threads, and figured I'd start a thread. A nice photo of an RV was recently posted. I figure there is a good brain-trust around here with the RV-line of aircraft, and others. I met a Captain building an RV-14. Sounds like the ultimate RV to me. Really interested in learning more. Do any of you have experience with one yet? https://www.vansaircraft.com/public/rv14.htm

  9. Haha, I've been yelled at in a debrief... a simulator debrief! I never forgot to check the Master Arm in the hot position when I called "in" after that though.

  10. Yet you continue to quibble. There are going to be times in your career, assuming it gets that far, you will not agree with what an instructor is saying. Best course of action at that point is to STFU and listen. You will be given an opportunity to ask clarifying questions tactfully. Your application identifying information is in that thread, you need to stop quibbling. Or you will likely be continuing to 'listen' on these forums as an applicant for a long time.

  11. Timeframe depends on the unit. After one interview, they called everyone the Monday following the interview weekend. With my other interview, they called exactly a week after my interview. I think they tried to call those selected first, because I know it took a few days for them to get in touch with everyone. I think the vast majority of units let applicants know either way. And honestly, if they don’t let you know after an interview, it might be for the best. These interviews are a big deal, a big effort, and expensive. If a unit doesn’t appreciate that enough to have a difficult phone call or at least email the people they interviewed, I’m not sure I’d want to be a part of that unit. I kind of understand not sending rejection emails to 200 applicants that didn’t get interviews. But personally, I feel like the 10-20 people that interview should be notified of the results and given feedback. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  13. I’ve almost made this same post a few times but have held back. I just realized today he viewed my profile and went back to find all my old posts in order to down vote them, lol. All 15 of my down votes are him, which must have taken days. Definitely something up with him.

  14. You got it bro, might as well find a different forum if you have it all figured out. My unit was only the biggest in the US, and to transition from active duty to the ANG you must apply just like a guy off the street. It’s cool though, you already knew that. heres the last piece of advice I’ll ever give you; when I think I’m being catfished/trolled/assholed by somebody on the interwebz I go look at that users posts and then decide if I’m getting lied too. I like to have fun and create humor on here but I’m pretty sure I’ve dropped advice before. Like I said though, you already know everything. And for fuk sake, that pic of Obama....

  15. Ellen M. Lord = Senate confirmed position. I'm not sure if the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment is one of them SES positions? The weasel(s) that ratted out this Distinguished General probably are some of them SESes (Turds/Idiots) that are worthy of being yelled at and kicked to the curb for these minor league - BS accusations. https://dod.defense.gov/About/Biographies/Biography-View/Article/1281505/ellen-m-lord/

  20. The AF should just lower the bonus commitment to 1-2 years. Then it would essentially be "Pro Pay" without having to call it that, since they are incapable of convincing Congress there's a problem. It would at least help the crew force think leadership is trying. Of course, that assumes Big AF actually gives a crap about trying to fix the problem, which we all know they don't. They've been studying the problem with little to no actual action for what...5 YEARS now? At this stage in my career, with eyes wide open about how much Big AF appreciates me, I'm essentially a mercenary. I still like flying for the AF though. If they would let that Voluntary Retired Return to Active Duty Program be bonus eligible, I'd sign up for four more years through that.

  22. Either way is fine, though if it’s on there I don’t have to go flipping through your package to find them. I don’t think anyone looks at it negatively if they’re not on there (unless unit specific instructions say otherwise).

  23. If you are a decent writer, you should be ok. But use the people here that offer help. I had someone look over my cover letter and give me some pointers. Also, personalize it. If the entire cover letter is "I want to fly" said 100 different ways, it adds nothing. Everyone applying wants to fly. Explain why, why that unit, why that mission/airframe, what is it about you that is unique? If you don't get to visit the unit, this is your chance for the unit to get to know you. Don't make jokes, but this is your chance to introduce yourself. You have one page for a cover letter, so make use of it.

  25. We have to look at 200 of these things - resume (what have you done) and cover letter (who are you/sell yourself) are the first two things looked at. If they’re not good, your app is easily thrown to the side pile. For content, remember we’re pilots who may not know anything about your current profession (if you’re already in the workforce), so keep that in mind when you write...if there’s too much jargon I may just skim over something that’s perhaps a big deal, but I had no idea and treated it as nothing of substance. Besides content, put the effort into grammar, spelling, ensuring you have the right unit in the letter, etc. If I read something that appears a middle schooler wrote/there’s a clear lack of proof reading, I immediately question whether this guy can succeed at the entire commisioning/flight training process. Maybe the two aren’t directly related, but it’s still a bias that will absolutely exist.

  26. It’s complicated. AQ and RCO manage program elements (pots of money), executed by a center (or RCO), to requirements from the MAJCOMs, all backed by studies from whoever supports your PFA (RAND, Red Team, etc). J8 is a significant gatekeeper and BS filter. Air Superiority 2030 Flight Plan is recommended reading. People who worked that were top notch. The ECCT concept seems to have legs.

  27. Yes, as I understand it, part of what they do (beyond wrangling us Reservists) is to help place Unsponsored folks because they can't really go chasing down interviews while in training. But, there's always the chance "needs of the AF" overrules if you don't get picked up.

  28. I am under the impression that at least one U-2 pilot will graduate in December. If true I’m sure you will see a lot of retired and old U-2 Drivers in Vegas for the event.

  29. It's that Wiley's 180? RVs are awesome. I know the owner of this badass RV. He's not a Viper guy, just loves/appreciates what the military does and sees it as a tribute to the military. Great dude that built an immaculate RV-8, with a ridiculously awesome panel. That thing can fly full coupled ILS approaches and even has a freaking go-around button (only need to add power). What's crazy is that everything you see on there (patches/numbering/tail letters) was all hand painted...no stickers. You can't see it, but it even has the refuel door painted on the spine.

  30. Huggy. I've spent the last 7.5 years deliberating and waiting for life to slow down so I can build my RV-7. I waited so long that eventually the -14 was introduced and I was quickly sold on it. When my profit sharing check showed up a couple of months ago, my wife told me to buy the dam tail kit already (she's a keeper!); guess she got tired of my constant yapping about it. I went to the Vans factory last month as well and got the full tour and RV-14A flight. Having flown in -6, -7, -8, and now the -14, I have a decent ability to compare them. Of course, I am now building the -14 so I am a little biased. The best way to think about the -14 is "2 seat RV-10 capable of gentlemans aero, and builds more like a -12." It is by far the best to sit in for room/comfort and has great visibility with the lowered longerons (-8 would be close). It's very light and nimble but also very well balanced. The -10 airfoil used was a great choice (just shorter span) for cross country or IFR. Also, the usable load is insane. You can almost always take full fuel and load- literally two hop across the country if you can sit for that long. Usable load for aero is great as well, especially compared to -6/-4. It's a hot rod like any RV. The throaty -390 lifts the -14 off the ground as fast as you can gently apply full power. I swear within seconds of leveling off at 2500 we were already doing 150+. My plan is to fly with Mrs. Wonderful Wifey all over the country and then beyond. She would absolutely appreciate the difference between the -7 and -14A. I also want to be able to introduce people to basic aero (loops, rolls, Cuban-8's, etc). If you're thinking about the -14 you will not be disappointed. The quality of the kit components and instructions are incredible. My hold up will be waiting for money as opposed to time. As my project gets underway, you're more than welcome to come visit. I'm up the road in Truckee. Cheers! (Pic of -14 and -14A)

  32. Tell me how a person wins CGOQ 10x? A certain CC told me this today. I shook my head, but internally thought WTF. I'm not trying to be a douchebag, but I would assume you didn't compete against anyone or you were the sole officer being submitted repeatedly. BREAK BREAK I had some E's bitching about the Operations Superintendent using bullets from everyone on his award package. Because he was competing against others who actually did all the work. I can see both sides of the argument.
