  1. I don’t think killing Iranians is an appropriate level of response for them shooting down a robot. One of the advantages of RPAs is we can lose a few. Had they killed aircrew, let’s start collecting scalps. This is a perfect time to respond with non kinetic cyber options. Or non lethal kinetic options if those can be identified.

  2. Knocking out a few radar sites would be though. I’d play this similar to the way we used to play the No Fly zones over Iraq. You point/fire a missile at us (specifically in international airspace) you will lose what you pointed. It’ll make them think about escalation as well if our seen/known response is you’re free to be buttholes and make statements and thump your chest but active threats will be dealt with immediately and completely. 3. For -17s: Slightly less but still busy. Somewhat fewer days away from home than in the previous decade. Still last minute, emergency scheduling which makes it hard to plan life. Many folks find out on a Wednesday that they leave on Saturday for a three-week stage. I hear life is a little more relaxed in PACAF. No SA on our tanker brethren.

Hope he enjoys his time out. Funny, except for "right wing" publications, you can't find a picture of the smug little yuppie, only Republican politicians.

  8. OK, while technically not a commander, the reasons behind Patrick Shanahan's departure as interim (and possibly permanent) SecDef irks the shit out of me... Honestly, I really don't have much of an opinion on his performance in that job; but the fact that he dropped out due to an incident where he not only wasn't charged after a full law enforcement investigation but the other party (his now ex-wife) was charged with assault (later dropped as a result of Shanahan's request) makes the entire matter a non-issue. Simply because he was accused of domestic violence, he is no longer a candidate for SecDef. The concept of presumption of innocence, the basis of our entire legal system, is being thrown out the window without any regard. Guilty until proven innocent doesn't even describe it, accused now equates to being guilty. Obviously he isn't the first and most certainly he won't be the only one who has been a victim of such circumstances, but the fact that this country's leadership isn't willing to stand up to such bullshit is intolerable. That is the reason why we cannot get quality leadership in such positions. Rant over.

  9. Concur They took one of the crews into custody / hostage from one of the tankers and are now taking them to Dubai, just wanted bent/burnt metal not bodies. History rhymes Ok, so how do you give feedback to let the Iranian regime (not civilians) know this will not be tolerated? What do you strike, seize, deny that causes the regime enough pain to stop?

  10. Wow, you're right. He did that for me too, downvoted all 6-ish posts I've made over the past few years. What a giant d-bag and wierdo. Do the mods not remove guys like that on here anymore? Too funny. Anyway, good call on the Block User function. That's complete. So now if nobody quotes Shazaam maybe he'll never bother us again.

  11. If you’ve had limited work interaction with the Civilian Force of the DOD, then it can be a bit of a culture shock. Ask most of them and they know a “blue suiter” will be gone in two years, that’s good or bad. If you work at the Pentagon I’m sure the turnover is greater than that. Try this leaders, treat people like you would like to be treated. Screaming at people, in my opinion, is an ineffective technique.

  16. It's that Wiley's 180? RVs are awesome. I know the owner of this badass RV. He's not a Viper guy, just loves/appreciates what the military does and sees it as a tribute to the military. Great dude that built an immaculate RV-8, with a ridiculously awesome panel. That thing can fly full coupled ILS approaches and even has a freaking go-around button (only need to add power). What's crazy is that everything you see on there (patches/numbering/tail letters) was all hand painted...no stickers. You can't see it, but it even has the refuel door painted on the spine.

  17. Networked data is GREAT provided you have unrestricted access to the full EM spectrum because you’re fighting cavemen. Being able to do this would require the AF to prioritize EW. https://www.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1816024/air-force-announces-electronic-warfare-electromagnetic-spectrum-superiority-ent/

  19. You, my friend, are insightful. You haven't seen the POWER of the dark side. Screw the flight pay. You don't know what you're missing. No Sir,... you just need to imagine being terrified at 55 knots. Or negative 4G's. Or inverted on a straight-and-level pass at 200' AGL. I was bored in my '77 Corolla... until I learned to DRIVE it. Yes. And I respect the hell out of those that have the drive to actually build/create. Those are the type of people that also give back. Can't wait to see you at a fly-in, Brother!! And Reno is next month. Beers are on me. And you know what? That lifestyle will impact the relationship you have with your kids. And wife. And it will be very positive. Good on you, good Sir. Ah... silly, silly, Grasshopper. Give up your love of such things as golf, motorcycles, golf, cars, golf, and... did I mention golf? These things were created by Lucifer to steer you away from your Aviation Destiny. Well,... keep the fast car. But only if it doesn't keep you out of more aviation. Being able to drive to your 60 mph aircraft in a car that can do 165 mph is kinda worthwhile. I think. This makes no sense. Whether you rent or buy Item #2, you simply need to do it. As for Items #1 and #3, I have no advice to offer. A quotable quote. The first girl I kissed wasn't much of a kisser. Neither were the next three. Thankfully, I didn't give up before I met #5. Some airplanes just don't respond well to inputs. It might not be a problem with "that type of airplane", but rather with "that particular airplane". I remember my first Extra 300 flight in 1996: indescribable. And now... with 110+ different aircraft in my logbook... I'm happy to say that I'm over 25% of the way to my goal. They are truly, unique experiences. Not to mention the amazing people I have met along the way. I should have written a book. Awesome thread, jspace.

  20. I have a question for you. You think my life revolves around BODN and what you all have to say or think? Are we in high school or something? I'm not a millennial and your comments don't make me want my own safe space. Social media comments and those made in this forum by people I don't know at all do not matter to me. Nobody really cares at the end of the day about BODN. Site has fallen off since my pilot training days and never recovered.
