Funny how you can be inspired by a movie, work toward a goal through high school, college, get a commission, fly for almost 22 years, and retire before the sequel comes out.3 points

I think Tom Cruise has figured out the retention problem. Line flying O-6, qual’d in at least 4x planes simultaneously, and personal motorcycle storage right on the flight line. Edit: especially since the taxpayers will think this is reality anyway after this movie comes out.2 points

If I'm gonna work 12s and be away from the family, it damned well better be tax free.2 points

I'm kind of over it. I'll let y'all know what AFPC and the WG/CC say, but I've made my peace with being a major out to 22 years then retirement.2 points

It means a lot. It was out of Pawnman's control but he should have had more breadth of experience and progression in responsibility. For the young people reading this, continue to work hard but make sure your duty title is commensurate or exceeds your rank/TIR/TIS. Know the key duty positions at each level of command as you progress in rank and you should be switching jobs about every 1.5 years. As much as we like to think that if we just keep working hard our boss will take care of us, the truth is your careers needs to be actively managed (not backstabbing) by you and your boss. Your boss's effort to take care of you depends on your performance, politics, favoritism, available resources, his moral compass and etc. No one in the military is ever too valuable to leave a position/unit/command. We are all replaceable.1 point

Duty titles could have mattered a bit too in this case Ever a flt cc? Ado? Absolutely great that you were stratted high the past 3 oprs, that should be all that matters1 point

Yes, it does. 7.33 unless you hit a button on the stick, and then you can have 9 for as long as you keep the button down.1 point

IMO your SR was speeding on your PRF. If your SR only had 2 IPZ and no DPs to give then the #1 guy's push would have said something like "If I had a DP to give then it would be automatic". Your SR then competed at the MLR and got him a DP. So your SR stating "If I had one more DP to give" is speeding since your SR never had a DP to give in the fist place. The good news is the fact that your SR was trying to help you out...but I'm curious what your PRF (and the #1 guy's) looked like when it went up to the MLR. Usually SRs call each other out on that stuff. I would have to look at your top 2 or 3 OPRs to get better insight. I would say you were definitely on the cusp and it sucks the luck was not on your side. How many MSMs do you have? As for the rest, I think you pretty much nailed it: Not being on a staff and the lack of FGO strats hurt. Good on you for having a positive attitude. When you meet with your SR ask if there's anything you can do to get one of his DPs next year/be his #1 push at the MLR...his answer should tell you a lot. Good luck.1 point

Concur. So far the program is designed to not only create a new AFSC and MDC2 experts, its designed so that in the future the vast majority of GOs and C2 leadership will be 13Os (at some point) via one of several on-ramp timelines... which doesn't pass the sniff check as yet. This one still has some baking to do, and its going to take some strong advocacy to live in the future. If you're willing to step out and try something new, break new ground, and don't really care about glass ceilings, this is an option. IMHO, its a particularly good option to get some smarts and training that would otherwise take over 5 years to get by a conservative estimate (Operational level of war education + ASG level planning education + Doctrine/C2 education) through a number of selective courses and assignments. But the bumpersticker is still attached - new is different, different is odd, odd is non-essential, non-essential gets cut when the belts tighten - and you can bet the belts are going to tighten. If someone has 15 years in, is it ever worth it to go AGR and delay your retirement by 16+ years? I understand not wanting to deploy and being sick of that aspect, but The benefit isn’t clear to me1 point

Took the devil's money back when everyone and their brother was telling me I'd definitely get promoted. Committed to 2027. After that I plan to retire fully, not look for a Guard or Reserve job. Talent Marketplace now, the losing commander gets some comments that we can't see. Hasn't been applicable to me in the last four VMLs, because I was removed. "Too critical to lose you from the FTU".1 point

ACSC complete, only negative indicator is that I've never left the community to do staff, never did instructor duty at PCola, never went ALO, and I didn't DG from SOS. I even did a Master's, before they were masked on the board. No LORs, no failed PT tests, no Q-2 or Q-3 check rides.1 point

"Combat medals, only man to shoot down 3 enemy aircraft in 40 years, yet you can't get a promotion"...sounds like the Navy has about as much use for combat experience as the Air Force when it comes to promotion boards.1 point

We've got a couple from the B-1 community that volunteered. They were excited to be picked up for the program. From the breakout, I would guess they'd promote in the same category as 11X, 12X and 13L.1 point

Question for fighter pilots... The abrupt pull of the stick at 0:33.... Aren't we talking black-out city pulling like that? I mean, I only flew Tweets but that kind of pull would have earned me a helmet smack from my IP. It's been a slow burn. 😄1 point

Standby to standby. The first FTU class is in progress and they’re about halfway through the pipeline. I might be able to get a temp check from the class when they role through my corner of the 13O FTU. I’ve taught one hour with them so far, and they are a broad cross section of the AF. Most seem intelligent and motivated...not voluntold...to be where they are. A1 Promotion roadshow will be a good place for promotion questions. More to follow when I can pass it. FF1 point

I am surprised there isn't more discussion here of what is shaping up to be the most important election cycle of my lifetime. I don't think the difference in the two political parties has ever been more wide. Democrats are offering everything under the sun in an effort to snag voters. Free healthcare for illegals. What happens when word gets out that illegal immigrants will get that free health care? More seriously sick illegals start showing up. Disease shows up. That will just add to the burden that is already being placed on this country. Homelessness is a huge problem in this country. Look at what is going on in California right now. Where do you house the additional hundreds of thousands of unemployed and homeless people who have crossed the border illegally? 100 billion dollars for blacks that are living in poverty, unemployed or underemployed who don't have the means to buy a house. This is meant to close the race/wage gap? The government has tried this before with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. And my guess is, regardless of race, if you are living in poverty, are unemployed or underemployed, your credit reflects that. Are we really going to give folks with bad credit and no job/low paying jobs 25 grand to buy a house they don't qualify for or can't afford? And is this not the definition of racism? Giving government funds to a specific race? And see my statement above about the homeless illegals. We will soon be giving them money to buy houses too. Free college tuition? No student debt? I think this one is brilliant on the part of the Democrats. They know that our education system indoctrinates young folks with liberal views. Especially, our colleges. The more young people they can get into that indoctrination system, the better. Aside from that, a bachelors degree becomes even more worthless because everyone has one and tuition rates skyrocket. Reparations for descendants of slaves. Reparations for gays. How does that work? How much and to whom? If the check is big, I bet you see a lot of new gay folks. I am not saying I would slob a knob for 50k but I know some folks who would. Medicare for all? Kicking 140 million people off of their current healthcare? Sh!t, it wasn't that long ago that the Dems were running on "keeping your healthcare and doctor". That sure changed quick. The good thing is that your average American is not on board with any of this. The only folks who are, already vote Democrat. These policies aren't swinging any votes to the left or away from Trump. So far, Trump has been guaranteed reelection. Rest assured, there are people hard at work right now working on the next fabricated scandal to take Trump down. It'll be even bigger than the Russian collusion story. They are just waiting on the right time to drop it. It'll be 6-9 months before the election and perfectly timed. That is all they've got. Free sh!t and made up scandals.1 point

Open kimono time: I make unwanted sexual passes at my wife almost daily. Sometimes dressed as a jet pilot, sometimes as a guy, sometimes with an open kimono which is actually a towel too small to fit around my fat ass. Phew, glad we got that out there in case I talk to anybody ever. Wouldn’t want to tank anybody’s career.1 point

https://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/450490-unmasker-in-chief-samantha-power-spewed-anti-trump-bias-in-government Opinion piece about how former UN Ambassador Samantha Powers' story changes about her unprecedented number of unmaskings of the private communications of US citizens and her political motivations. Which is UFB enough. But the next to last paragraph is what bothers me: I f'n' called it. You let one side get away with unleashing the power of the US Government and its intelligence agencies against us, and sure as sh!t, the other side will do it even more so. If nobody is tried/convicted for theses shenanigans, it will just increase. Get the fcuk off my lawn...1 point

I would not put it past prominent Dems to ask foreign governments to not recognize the winner of a race as the President if they didn't like the results and thought they could get away with it. They could state they recognize Candidate X for President and if the State Governments of the largest, most prominent states refused to accept the results, the world just might follow them. As it would be the equivalent of an H-bomb on our economy, this might cause all the other institutions in our country to say screw the real results and give in. They currently flout federal law, interfere and attempt to hamper federal law enforcement when it suits them and ignore the growing censorship, exclusion and harassment of "woke capitol" on private citizens in the economy and public sphere when it suits them. They suffer no repercussions and only have more incentive to try more. The Republic as we know it is dying.0 points
