I was a flt/cc is a squadron that was half enlisted aircrew. The amount of young kids that failed PT tests was surprising. Many of them were pretty thin dudes that I would have thought wouldn’t have had issues. They just didn’t care or didn’t want to put the effort into physical training. On another note, a got a brief last week from a new program AFSOC/SOCOM is standing up later this year. It’s going to be a staff of physical trainers, physical therapists, dietitians, dedicated to only aircrew. They are suppose to have their own gym, and biometric equipment for analysis of improvements. Any aircrew on base can walk in and get help, and their services are suppose to be oriented to help aircrew better operate in their crew position. Having back issues being in the seat? Expect them to help get you on a training program to strengthen back muscles and focus on making it more comfortable. They were getting fam rides on the jets to become more familiar with our operating environment to better help us. I walked in late but it sounded pretty awesome. It’s based off what the Army/Navy have for their spec ops teams, and the money is from SOCOM, so for now it’s only going to be a AFSOC thing.3 points

In my mid/late 30s I had completed several full Ironman races, was in Ironman shape, and could still only run a 10:20. /endhumblebrag. Your 10:16 is an outlier time, and I commend you for your old man fitness. Yes, it felt great to lap kids half my age, but I, for one, welcome my old man 40+ fitness chart! 😄3 points

The new guys on here better start posting more before baseops.net itself pays back the unearned part of its bonus, separates, and finishes up reserve with that Delta gig. Geesh... ~Bendy2 points

Hey white knight, I was merely asking. Calm the fuck down with the keyboard hostility and go fuck yourself right back with your misplaced umbrage, trying to make me the straw man for your buddy's lot in life. You re barking up the wrong tree. This god damn board I tell ya. The stundepilot.net days seem civilized by comparison. At any rate. My aggregate point on the dynamics of the UPT fiasco stand. Push-ups, pull-ups, 1.5 run, waist. And they really believe this test accurately tells them anything about what physical condition someone is in? As a business practice, is the investment in dollars and resources worth the data we get from the "fitness program"? A month before I turned 50, I did my mandatory PT test with one of my best friends, who was 47. Of the other 7 in your PT group, one was early 30's, and the other 6 were early 20's. Me and my artificial hip came across the finish line at 10:16 with Brad about 20" behind me. We stood there and heckled the other 7 with shouts of "old guys rule!" Most of them were sucking wind. I lapped one of them twice. While this is only one indicator, it was obvious that these kids in their early 20's were lethargic. But was anything productive done with this data now that they were identified? Or was the time away from work, and the money spent on the salary for the full-time civilian monitor with the expensive AED heart-attack-restart box worth it? I appears to be such a monumental circle-jerk that we simply couldn't improve during my 28 years in.1 point

I went a solid 8 years without a valid PT test. We pencil-whipped at the sq level, I remember having a beer at the sq bar, being asked by the PTL what he thought I could run 1.5 in. Same guy was a hardass IP because one evaluation mattered, the other we all knew was BS. So m I wouldn’t doubt Pilots are doing that still if able. And it’s fine by me because the PT test is dumb. The fatties all get exempt anyhow. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app1 point

That ‘stress’ is about that keeps me passing the thing. there isn’t a huge difference between running 12 minutes and 14. One is a decent enough score to pass, the other is obviously a fail.1 point

Backdoor RIF has served its purpose... sometime in the very near future, "hey, I hear a bike test is a great way to determine if you're fit and it won't kill a few folks each year and you keep taking the test until you pass."1 point

When decentralized execution gets to dictate the organizational needs to the centralized control, the future takes a back seat to the now. There isn’t any mystery here...we hit a point where we should have started saying no, resources aren’t available to take care of the future and escalate “needed” requirements now. We have needed more IPs for a while. Everyone knows that, to include the last general I heard say, “...but, I need you to do it with less IPs”. I’m not in a position to argue any gripe provided thus far, but we don’t have to use VR to reduce the syllabus. It could be used highly effectively to augment training and increase the quality of the products that move on to the next step in the pipe line. Naturally, the GOs want it to be the solution today to the needs of now...always the same story. Who can lead the AF on a path that minimizes our involvement within the capacity that provides for sustainment? Seems like it’s part of the job description of a couple jobs, but we can’t get it. And, we also cannot promote people that would... ~Bendy1 point

You are assuming there was a T-6 spot for him and yeah he mentioned his wife a lot and good for him. The AF gets young motivated college students to become pilots, they don't keep those same people in the AF, they keep families. I've had three people in the last month tell me "the wife said this was the last move" and so they started looking for an exit. All in all I though his post was a very reasonable assessment of the situation given the asshattery from 19 AF.1 point

Go fuck your face. The author of that "sob story" is one of my buddies and one of the most patriotic, humble, well-liked dudes I've known in my years in the AF. Not many people here have had assignments cancelled after: signing papers for a house, wife finding a GOOD job, and enrolling kids in school mere days before it starts. I don't care what you've been through, that's tough on anyone. Now, because one GO thinks heavy drivers aren't capable of teaching tac form, he has to do it all over again, but now he gets to pull his kids out of school mid-year and enroll them somewhere else. His post should be something we can all rally around as another feather in the "Big Blue gives zero fucks about us" cap. Most of us in his situation would punch at the soonest opportunity, middle fingers in the air. But knowing the author, he will take the kick in the junk and keep moving forward because he cares about Mother Blue and legitimately wants to fix this cluster fuck and leave it in a better place.1 point

I guess I was the bottom ~25% of my year group according to the Air Force. Maybe I should start working like the shit bag Big Blue believes I am. Come in late, two hour lunch, gym at about 2, go home after the gym...1 point

We're conflating grievances here. They could give him a T-6 to SPS, problem solved. No meltdown, no waiver needed, no PCS expenditure loss, wifiey can still be assistant DA (jesus how many times did he mention that, it was like watching one of Khalessi's minions announce all her titles on GOT). As to the rest? Get a fvcking grip man. I have a story too. Many of us have a story of personal grievance in this line of work. Life's not fair, we make lemons with the batch we get pelted in the head with. I didn't go on a whiny bender on the internet about it. I have family challenges too, one I seriously considered quitting the military over. Jesus T-1 driving Christ do you AD folks not have better friends to commiserate to than the internet? Or is this a millennial thing, and it pains me to say that as technically I'm the oldest year of a millennial. Here's a pro-tip for that guy: Fighter units in the ANG/AFRC pick up separating heavy drivers every now and then as a consequence of circumstances/PFA/et al. Having a god damn melt down and posting it forever on the internet, where you allocute to still having a fundamental chip on your shoulder about legitimately sucking hind teet in ENJJPT and/or not getting what you wanted out of UPT 6-9 years ago, is not the starting point to a clean transition to the next chapter of your flying career. Here's another pro tip: There's a metric fvck ton of AFRC UPT drivers on this board (and FB). Ask me how I know. Guess who's also at the hiring boards for said FTG. Our main source of guys is separating AD UPT cats. Don't drink and internet, folks, though it may be a bit late for some.1 point

IFF is not about employing an airplane as a weapons system. It’s an admin course that teaches you how to speak/do the basics of being a fighter wingman. Hell, it’s right in the title of the course (fundamentals). Even the end of block sorties are demonstration of proficiency, not expertise. I agree the FTU shouldn’t be spending time on that. I vehemently agree that Brabus shouldn’t have to do that during MQT in a Viper. And also, if you think the basics aren’t important in a fighter, I’ve got 2 friends that were great fighter pilots that are no longer with us after making a simple mistake flying instruments. I don’t know anyone who has been shot down in the last decade and a half. To me, if a guy drops a fighter and makes it to the FTU, that’s more on IFF if they don’t like the product. Blaming UPT and scapegoating non 11F for a bad product at FTU and/or in the CAF is off-base IMO. Lastly, how on God’s green earth is a B-52/B-2 guy droning around in the bozosphere dropping BOC or launching SOW “good enough” to teach in a T-38 but some 11M/11S that’s been doing tons of actual hand flying in challenging environments not? No offense to the BUFF community, but I don’t get it.1 point

Why do you care? Who wants to live in a state who elects Ilhan Omar? Even a viper wouldn't give me enough incentive to move there.1 point

How old are you? You do realize our Airmen aren't pilots and most of their jobs consist of staying inside the wire right? Unless said 18 year is in a highly specialized AFSC or is aircrew, they stay inside the wire and still receive holidays off as we launch combat sorties. Let me stop by Finance on Thanksgiving at Bagram. Oh wait, it's closed in combat? Thanks AF, I'll just login to MyPay from the WiFi signal in my B-hut. Aren't you the same guy who walked into the squadron sobbing because the Xfinity cable guy was making unannounced visits to your crib? I was told there was definitely some bedroom disruption of service going on, but it wasn't remotely cable related.-1 points
