With respect to lawyers, my wife and I are enrolled agents. She frequently works with lawyers on tax issues related to tax, including many divorce cases. She often finds lawyers who are pretty disorganized, and often are not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. To be fair they tell us that there is little or no training in law school on the practical issues faced by working attorneys, so there is a lot of OJT. My suggestion is look for an ugly lawyer with gray hair and wrinkles.

To think that guys like this made O-6 and I got passed over for O-5...

Jaysus... sick douche bag. **break break** I'm grateful to say that I got through my sq/cc tour without a link being posted in this thread about me getting fired. Today was my last day as the CC. It was great and terrible all at the same time & glad it's over/wish it would keep going all at once. Time for a cocktail.

Me and a couple of the other Eagle squadron commanders went up to NGB back in May. This was one of the topics we talked about. Let me be upfront: I'm not saying it's good/right/excused/etc - just stating the facts here. The DFAS system is being overhauled, rollout scheduled for FY21. They aren't putting any additional money into the current one for modifications or updates. The current DFAS system has the AFTP limits hard coded into it, the new one will be able to adapt to changes in AFI's. (allegedly) We talked to the people who wrote the changes and asked why the changes were the way they are, this is what they told us. I guess you can say at least there is a reason other than someone just crossing their arms, stomping their feet and saying "NO! NO! NO!". (which is how I picture most things going down (STS) when we ask the staff to fix things for the field)

This is exactly what was echoed by our finance chick. Not surprising, especially since it doesn't impact those who sit up on the staff (sts) or at DFAS. We work for them, they don't work for us... Seriously, thanks for the words. Did they give a reason why we can no longer control our own UTAs? Zero system limitations on this...one day we could could process our own UTAs, the next day we could not. When I could process my own UTAs, I never had a problem getting paid. At the end of the day, the job of the full time force (something I once was) is to ensure the part time force is trained and ready to go when we're needed. When I'm spending one of my limited work days just trying to get paid, they're seriously failing. Honestly, I used to bend over backwards to get the mission done, but when I see them just say fuck it, deal with it...I'm done with throwing them a bone. You're going to make it harder on me, fine...but don't be surprised when I blow a pay card just to get paid, or you see me not make RAP because I spent one the few days you have me, just trying to get paid.

Well, here we are two years later and I've finally retaken the TBAS. PCSM went from 71 to 93, same flight hours bracket (~50).

The system is imperfect. To that point, not only did he make O-6, but he was BPZ for O-5 and O-6. It makes one wonder if there were signs that were missed or ignored along the way.

I don't think we need to go to war. We just need to warn them that bad things will happen if they attack the Kurds. Sanctions. Kicked out of more military programs the way we kicked then out of the F-35. Reduced foreign aid. Reduced military spending at Incirlick. We have options aside from shooting down their jets and strafing their tanks.

I don't know what the answer is, but I know if we keep abandoning allies like this, we're going to have a hard time finding new ones when we need them.

Saw a documentary on these things back in the mid-80s.
