The experience gained in the 7 year 'A' model has been invaluable for the current 22 years + 'B' model assignment. But, damn, that experience cost a helluva lot in time/stress/money...7 points

And funny enough the countries he is claiming to emulate actually do that. We just dint hear that by the way it’s viewed/sold of “free college for everybody,” either because ignorance or false branding. If you are in for example Germany, you know by the time most of us where ending puberty where your path will go. Those countries have quotas and caps for not just higher education, but skilled, and unskilled labor categories. They do tell people “we will pay to teach you.... to be an electrician/plumber/mechanic because that’s what you qualified for.” Your desire to be something else is on you. Had one of my old Commanders on my jumpseat, he had just separated from the AF and was going through training. He told me that during his 2 year Command tour he didn’t PCS a single Major. 100% separated. Glad we fixed the pilot crisis. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app2 points

Totally feasible; especially for heavies. I got waivered off the street at 36 (technically 37, by the time I started UPT). It’s all in how hard you’re willing to hustle to get there, but a lot of my hustle was in getting the stuff that was needed (test scores, medical, recruiting paperwork, etc.) done before/right after getting hired. Get your AFOQT and TBAS done (when you’re ready to test); sooner the better. If you get 80s-90s on Pilot, Nav, and PCSM, you’ll get a lot more attention from recruiters and units. You said you needed a medical waiver, which is another huge hurdle and something that might give units pause, so get rolling on going to MEPS and, if it’s possible, try to get an FC1 out of the way to ensure those med waivers don’t hold you back. You’ll have to have that before you go to a UPT board and that takes time. Get a solid packet together and get working with a recruiter if you’re looking at Reserves options. A single Reserves recruiter can handle any Reserves unit you’re interested in; Guard will have individual recruiters for each unit, which makes things tougher (but still doable; just more duplication of efforts). It’s all based on your hustle and anything is possible until you’ve heard ”Yes” or your final “No.” Keep networking, keep digging for what you can do next to help your cause, and don’t let any “No” answers dissuade you from trying more options. Part of it all is proving how bad you want it and putting in your own legwork and being persistent will go a long way to showing you’re serious. Good luck!2 points

There are many of us who have been married for a considerable amount of time (nearly 25 years in my case) and understand that playing Charlie Sheen may seem like a good idea; but in reality there is something to be said about spending your life with someone you love and raising a family with them...2 points

Not broken down by sub-category. I’d expect to continue to see incentives focused on 11Fs and less staff jobs for 11Fs. The glut of FGOs from other communities will pick up the slack. Plus, we all know AF facts aren’t always facts, despite what they put on the slide. Still interesting to see what data we’re using to make our decisions.1 point

Even if we could afford free college for all, is it worth it or even necessary? Not everyone needs to go to college. Unless you major in STEM, business, medicine, law and a few others, your degree alone is not of much use. Now, trade schools? I’d be intrigued because we need more of that. Guaranteed that the plumber makes more than the dude who majored in gender studies. However, that doesn’t fit Bernie’s narrative because then he can’t brainwash our youth.1 point

Update: took the PFT today, it was the most thorough test I’ve taken for my lungs. The technician was very helpful and explained everything along the way and I came out normal 👌🏻 MCT is Thursday. They will never do the two tests on the same day because you are given an albuterol inhaler at the end of the PFT and you need time to get the medicine out of your system. this whole experience has been attitude driven. No one wants to fail you here. If you have the right attitude and mindset and give everything you have more than likely things will work out. In my 10 years of service I’ve never met a more positive medical staff who is there to help you succeed. will update again Thursday!1 point

There are plenty of public poles on Single Payer. What there aren’t a lot of and what fails miserably is positive polls when people are told what they will be taxed to pay for single payer. Everybody thinks these pipe dream “lets be like Europe!” Ideas are great in space. Once you find out the VAT tax and lack of take home pay enjoyed in those countries the people who succeeded enough in life to not be sitting with 120k in debt and 3 years of college wasted while working as a barista realize really quickly they don’t like the idea of “we just need socialism to fix everything.” Bernie is still mouthing “they have free college in Germany!” Yeah they do... for a select group of people identified by their 14th birthday as worthy of receiving that investment by the government. They also have a buttload of people working service jobs because they didn’t have rich parents to pay for the cost of sending them abroad to higher education. You don’t hear about that part in his speech. Probably because you can’t sell that as easy as “free college for everybody.” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

And there’s the rub. It’d be nice and desired to have both positives, but if we do only get one (because the perfect scenario is unlikely) which do people want? The thing that chaps my ass is how emotional people get and so easily turn a blind eye to facts. I think Obama was very well spoken, polite, resembled the “consummate” politician of a first world country, but I also think his administration fucked it away horribly and he did a terrible job. I think trump is the antithesis of those same qualities, but his administration’s policies and actions are in general far more in line with what this country needs (my opinion obviously). So, perhaps he is the blowhard asshole that we needed at this particular time in our country’s existence. Doesn’t mean someone like him is the answer in ten years, but for now I think we needed a shakeup in the political elite class across both parties. In the end, I don’t care who the man in the seat is or if I’d invite him to my bbq, I care what he and his administration does for America. And right now, the dems are run by socialists, so yeah, I’ll take the loudmouth asshole over that.1 point

The left will vote for whoever CNN/MSNBC tells them is good and can beat trump. Let’s not get too far into them caring about issues. Tulsi has no chance because the media hasn’t pushed her. You guys are critically thinking about stuff when the reality is, the avg millennial dem wants to know what free stuff they are getting and who will make them feel better/scare them the least. They want this conveniently via social media or quick blurbs, nothing in depth. Not a Trump lover but I hope he wins by a landslide. The dem platform flat out scares me. It wasn't enough. I don't forgive him for joining that dumpster fire of a presidency then bailing. And that weird blood racket operation too... Mcraven is the hero here. He is calling it like it is, completely apolitical and just remaining loyal to the US.-1 points

That article specifically is one I was talking about. Trump literally admitted on the south lawn that he gives f*** all about the constitution. He asked Ukraine and China for help with the 2020 election. Not to mention the Mulvaney shitshow in the past few days. Its binary ones and zeros...this isnt up for interpretation. I mean I think we're on the same wavelength, but I really think Mcraven is for the boys and has our best interest in mind. I still think he doesn't lean one way or another. I think hes calling out dangers to our democracy. Maybe im wrong, hopefully not.-1 points

Trump is a piece of shit. He'll never be 10% of the man Mattis is, nor will he ever know what honor or courage is like Mattis does. But Mattis, like the others, has been wrong on the Middle East, and no amount of personal character will make up for the fact they are fundamentally wrong. In some sort of strange way we have ended up with two camps. The Bush/Generals/McCain camp, where personal conduct is dignified and policy is catastrophic, and the Trump camp, where personal conduct is alarming and shameful, but the policy is somehow pretty solid. Not sure why we can't have both, but you'd have to ask the electorate [emoji2369]-1 points
