  1. You said that, but a half dozen on this board heard (in your voice): “Spoilers! SPOILERS!! Yoke aft! Level the wings! Centerline, left wing up...Spoilers!!!”

  2. If the timeline is anything similar to what it was last year, we should begin to hear about IFS/MFS/UFT class dates starting tomorrow, in-line with the public release, at the earliest. All the assignments and TDYs have to be manually hand-jammed by AFPC, so we will probably start to see a slow trickle of dates/RIPs hitting our inboxes. Keep an eye on your 'Career Data Brief', under vMPF; it will list IFS/MFS under 'Projected Training' with a start and end date. Concerning class start dates, your unit's loss roster (controlled by the CSS) is the first place to indicate any pending assignment, even before CC advance notification or the auto-generated AFPC assignment e-mail.

  4. FWIW, half the guys in my unit (including me) don't even have rank on the old style jackets, let alone the new water proof ones.

  5. Coffee...whole bean if able. Coffee grinder is on my list of essential packing items. Just because we're in a war zone doesn't mean we have to be barbaric on coffee drinking. As far as games, all you need is a deck of cards and 3 other midwesterners who play Euchre.

  6. Am I the only one who wants Trump, Biden, and the Clintons investigated in relation to this whole Ukraine thing? I don't care what letter you have after your name... If you used your government position for personal gain, I want you prosecuted.

  7. Well, here at Dyess we are 3-D printing the controllers for the B-1 avionics system for pennies on the dollar. As well as replacement ICS switches, switch covers, and other cockpit components. I don't think we're quite to printing a new engine from scratch, but if I can get even these plastic pieces in a day instead of weeks, for a fraction of the price... I'm all for investing in the idea just to see what airmen can make. I'm old enough to remember bitching that the Air Force didn't want ideas from anyone below O-6. I'm sure as hell not going to shoot down airman Snuffy's good idea "because that's how we've always done it".

  8. I'm not a test pilot. However, I have a fair amount of experience in a multitude of military powered-aircraft and can't think of one I've flown where this is the case. I've got about 6 sorties in the F-16, including a front seat flight where we did SFO's. Although it has been 10 years... and everything is done primarily in AoA... I recall that approach speeds were ~150 KIAS and L/Dmax is 200 KIAS... which puts it in the same category as the Hornet / Super Hornet you mention above. Again, I'm sure I'm missing something. Can you give some examples of military powered-airplanes where approach speed is above L/Dmax?
