  1. It took a long time and a lot of effort by some great people to start a U-2 WIC... but it finally happened. And the initial cadre was Patched Thursday, and graduated tonight. A very HUGE congrats to Jester, Posit and Gump. Leading the way for the Brotherhood, they are great reps for the U-2 weapons system. I was able to attend Thursday's festivities, and the O'Club was mobbed with U-2 folks... Intel, Mission Planners, 9RW Chief, and all of the Drivers. It really was an epic evening. Thanks to all involved for allowing the Old Guys to show up and be a part of it. Hail Dragons.

  2. I’ll give you all the conventional Cyber for no trade at all. For F sake can we make that part of space force already? Having people promoted to leadership in that MOS while they are being compared against their peers for how fast they run and what their rifle qual was is insane. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. I’m very interested to read the AARs when the investigation is over. Reports are the Ensign that lost his life jumped a desk and engaged the shooter, and later made his way outside to assist law enforcement with location/description of shooter. I’ve heard vague reports that others might have attempted to disrupt the shooter as well. A Navy contract officer was shot and two deputies. My thoughts after a few drinks on Friday, a week to reflect, and living just a few minutes away. This asshole went to inflict mass damage. He encountered resistance from some absolute heroes and perhaps a building that was locked down by the time he overcame that resistance that saved lives. The simple fact the asshole engaged a soft target, and 3 people lost, 8 wounded (3 being law enforcement) I would say the assholes objectives were thwarted. (I in no way am down playing those lost/injured, but whatever happened in that building saved lives). I really hope when everything is over everyone who deserves recognition gets it. Engaging a shooter unarmed and sacrificing your life to save others in my opinion deserves a highest honor. The police (both military and law enforcement) that responded did their job absolutely honorably, they went in to saves and accomplished that mission. I hope we learn some lessons and don’t let the lives lost be in vein and unrecognized cheers 🍺🍺 To Them. 🍺🍺

  8. You need buy in from commanders to change culture as well. With the civilian help it's easy for some bosses to feel like you have lots of extra time to start new projects as well. There needs to be a clear culture that you job expectations are focused around operations and execution and not building admin systems and queep.

  9. Change may be slow, but at least change is happening. Since I joined: Master's degrees are masked, we stopped picking school selects at the O-4 board (everyone competes yearly now), you can decline school without prejudice (can turn down school after receiving orders without having to separate), 365s are on the decline (still more work to be done here), helmet art is back, sleeves can be rolled up, lots of civilian contractors have been brought (back) into the squadrons, etc. Can more be done? An unequivocal yes... there are so many other things that still need fixing, but things are changing.

  10. First off, Congrats!! This is honestly great advice for anyone limiting themselves to only fighters or bust. Get an idea of the lifestyle/mission/flight hours/etc from as many different units and squadrons as you can. Go and meet people in the unit by visiting to see what the place is like. After the new shiny toy effect wears off, now you’re stuck living that life for 10+ years and you want to make sure these are the people you want to hang out with (they want to make sure the same thing when it comes to you). If it’s a good fit, then more power to you and that’s awesome. Remember that even raging around in an F-22 eventually becomes just your “job” and I’ve got many friends I know that are sick of that and ready to punch. I know an Air Force Demo team fighter pilot who can’t wait to jump to the airlines and currently has no plans to even go to the Reserves/Guard. And his job is pretty freaking cool from an outsider looking in at what he has done and is currently doing. The biggest thing I caution anyone reading this is that you’re only getting older and that 10 year commitment isn’t getting any shorter. I am an OTS guy and I’m watching guys younger than me all punching out for the airlines and it makes me wish I had joined sooner and I was 25 when I commissioned. If you have goals of being an airline pilot, don’t forget to consider that some airplanes build your hours more quickly than others. Figure out how much the units you’re looking to fly for actually fly. I have friends that haven’t flown much because their reserve unit is short on money for flight hours. Things I never would have thought about before joining because I just didn’t know. Best of luck to you all regardless, I think you’ll find that no matter what you fly you’ll be pretty happy to put on a flight suit and go hang out with the bros in the squadron if you pick the right unit for you.
