I completely agree with you bro. I have to give DV tours to Wing CCs and MAJCOM/CCs when my boss is out. One O-6 just randomly asked me about my special duty and promotion out of the blue. He told me ACSC shouldn't matter at all in the equation for promotion per the CSAF. I told him I completely understand I am playing with fire and you have to check the box in order to be promoted. I definitely don't walk on water because I don't have a single Wing strat. I am prior enlisted with 19 years of service so I hit sanctuary. I still managed to accomplish the following as a major without touching ACSC: - DG - #3/42 Sq | #1/73 - IQT (OPR) - #2/12 Sq | #10/53 Gp | USAFCENT Safety Award (OPR) - #1/12 Sq | #8/53 Gp (OPR) - #2/6 Gp | Wing FGOQ (special duty OPR).5 points

Let’s examine the clues: - posts about his own mentorship prowess - posts his own strats - works at a non-flying training wing & is clearly better than everyone else - dumb enough to think changing a screen name but keeping same life details & writing style will fool us all. I think you’ve cracked this case.3 points

This is pretty much a SIE for promotions in todays Air Force, even IPZ...if you are APZ with no PME thats a clean kill and you arent going to make it. The rules of the game are well known, and playing against them produces predictable results. Read the promotion statistics if you dont believe me. I wish you luck.3 points

I'm fine with that but we have to find that right balance between Congressional oversight and approval for war / long-term operations and the reality of the modern operational environment needing often swift decision making with an executive enabled to take decisive action(s). The War Powers Act is a good idea and just needs to be updated (regularly) and acknowledged by the Executive Branch. A long enough leash to let the dog keep the bad guys at bay but still is there to keep the dog from running wild thru the neighborhood. Agree on problematic rhetoric, some on the right and left are using language they know is bullshit.3 points

Then you should try and get a job working directly for that O6. The endemic problem is that CSAF has great ideas and makes good progress fixing things, but ultimately its his plethora of O6s and O7s between you and him interpreting guidance how they see fit. For example the CSAF constantly rails that squadron commanders should be empowered by GP/WG commanders to run their organizations how they see fit...but there is no shortage of micromanaging leaders out there claiming to be servant leaders. Most of these dudes were DG at one or more PME and they loved the taste of that kool aid. You arent going to thumb your nose at PME and have it not affect your ranking. Sounds like you are set being able to punch retiring as a Major. I'd take the money and run vs extending commitment, risking a shitty PCS/365 to get the O5 retirement. The AF has already indirectly told you they dont value your work, and regardless of your current job you'll find better employment outside with a much better QOL. Unless you plan to become a general or are having a shit ton of fun...staying past 20 doesnt make a lot of sense in most cases. Again I wish you luck.2 points

Agreed! Fantastic. I can’t remember the last time I went to a movie where I wasn’t looking at my watch waiting for it to end. I was legit surprised it was over because it just held my attentiont so well I looked at my watch and was surprised how long I had actually been sitting there.1 point

ACSC in correspondence is a waste of time. Basing selection for promotion on that single item is ignorant. I have NEVER talked to someone my senior that disagrees with this. (At least in a closed door conversation) But are any of you guys actually surprised at this? I’m not.1 point

Sounds like SOS! Flex anyone? Remember that gay “sport”? Your Wing King sounds like a tool. Tell him people like him are the reason we have a retention problem.1 point

"The Report" had a limited release in theaters early 2019, and then released on Amazon in November. Daniel Jones (Adam Driver) is a Idealistic Senate staffer tasked by his boss (Sen Diane Feinstein, head of the Senate Intelligence Committee) to lead an investigation into the CIA's post 9/11 Detention and Interrogation Program (i.e. detainee torture, black sites, etc). Saw a couple reviews along the lines of "this movie felt like a Wikipedia article on screen," which it kinda did (lots of dialogue, little to no character development, strong focus on names/dates/places, etc). Still, it kept my interest. From what I could find, the movie is more or less accurate to actual events. Not a good choice if you're looking for action/adventure, but if you want to see the nuts-and-bolts of some of the more important aspects of the "War on Terror," I'd recommend it.1 point

This. Like it or not, DOD has decided that it wants O-5s to have a baseline background in national security issues beyond your tactical expertise, and that background is supposedly provided through IDE. No one in the AF can or will change this fact. The effectiveness of forcing O-4s to do this online around their work/family schedules is an entirely different (and worthwhile) conversation.1 point

Iran plane crash: Ukrainian jet was 'unintentionally' shot down - state TV https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-51073621 Looks like the rare triple-crossover conspiracy theory is confirmed now. I’d wager that the SAM operator has already been... taken care of... and has been sent to a really nice farm in the country.1 point

I was texting with some friends who were happy that our TSP was doing well this past year. Here's a few articles I've found the past few days: Over 1700 announced of possible 12,000 expected major retail stores closing in 2020 https://www.businessinsider.com/stores-closing-in-2020-list-2020-1 2019 Auto Sales lowest in 5 years https://www.pymnts.com/news/retail/2020/us-2019-auto-sales-were-lowest-in-five-years/ Auto Sales supported by sub-prime lending while delinquencies rise https://seekingalpha.com/article/4315102-auto-sector-will-continue-to-decline-2020s Auto Dealers falsifying buyer’s income on car-loan applications https://www.wsj.com/articles/an-809-car-payment-a-660-income-how-dealers-make-the-math-work-11576924201?mod=searchresults&page=1&pos=3 Baltic Dry Index largest drop since 2008 https://capital.com/baltic-dry-suffers-largest-drop-since-2008 ISM Manufacturing Index 10 year low https://finance.yahoo.com/news/etfs-suffer-ism-index-drops-210709628.html US Rail Traffic down %5.1% since last year https://www.freightwaves.com/news/us-rail-traffic-starts-off-new-year-in-a-slump Nine States are experiencing a contracting economy https://www.philadelphiafed.org/research-and-data/regional-economy/indexes/leading So why is the Market going up? Lots of reasons, but here is one biggie: The Federal Reserve bank has been pumping (printing) hundreds of billions into the repo market since September as posted about earlier. More announced just a few days ago. The four biggest primary lenders (JP Morgan, Citi, B of A, and Wells Fargo) need that cash to keep hedge funds afloat. These massive hedge funds are borrowing money to buy equities, which drives the market up. Hedge fund purchases and corporate buybacks are masking the real business values. If hedge funds have trouble making these loan payments, they stop buying. If they don’t keep buying, stock prices stagnate. If they liquidate to make payments, prices decline. In short, the US government is printing money for the purpose of allowing banks and hedge funds to gamble borrowed money in a rigged game, and you are assuming the risk. The Market is following the increasing Fed Balance Sheet and little else. We can’t print money indefinitely while the government runs a $1 Trillion dollar per year deficit. So, when we stop printing, no repo market funds, hedge funds liquidate to pay bills, stocks decline, a panic and rush for the exit ensues. Wall street will be the first to the exit and they’ll be taking the bulk of the cash with them. Passive investors like you and I will be at the back of the line. Don’t fall in love with your TSP gains and I feel bad for anyone signed up with BRS. (Scooter turns off Matlock, picks up iPhone, yells at kids to get off his lawn...) Well, it has been a long time, hasn’t it? IIRC...and my time was only OSW, I never got to do ONW, but I think it was the same: It all depended on where you flew. Tankers and ISR got combat support sorties because we were further back and qualified for Aerial Achievement Medals based on a 20 sortie count. The OCA/DCA/SEAD guys patrolled in areas that should have rated combat time and thus should qualified for Air Medals. Does that help? Any other old guys correct me if I’m wrong.1 point

No, having a full-time designated room that is solely used for that purpose is not "legit and reasonable" when the infrastructure we have is already inadequate for the day-to-day work the military does. Do we put one in Base Ops? How about each of the aircraft hangars? What about the fuels building that is about 400 sq ft in size and sits on a pretty remote section of the base? What would be "legit and reasonable" in this hypothetical situation: my wife comes to the squadron for something, brings along my infant child, and needs to breast feed. I find a solution. Briefing room, squadron bar, whatever. I don't know what "amenities" are now required, but women that are breastfeeding generally carry what they need. And if I couldn't find a private space that would work, I'd go ask someone with a private office like my DO or CC. You know what their response would have been? "You bet, Huggy. She can use my office." In my 28 years of working on the flight line, I do not remember one time where a women came in and needed to breast feed. I'm sure it happens. But not with the regularity that requires that we give up valuable space. Space we need. Space that the US govt has been unable to provide us through MILCON dollars. Here's a possible alternative: How about letting us find a solution to this "problem" on our own? A solution that isn't mandated though more regulation, govt mandates, or social justice warrior programs. Instead, I would rely on my mostly-male squadron mates to the be gentlemen that they are and to help out a nursing mother in need. In the end, we would do what we always did, and take good care of those that visited our squadron.1 point

So I’ll be the asshole. I know plenty of dead guys who are dead because they played by the rules. They didn’t pose with bodies, or kill prisoners, or fire where the risk of harm to civilians existed (or in the case of the Army Lieutenant, specifically target then). And their honor on the battlefield under the established rules of “civilized” warfare is why some of them aren’t with us anymore. They don’t get a pardon. They’ll pay their sentence for eternity for playing by the rules. Seems like an injustice to pardon those who went out of their way to break the rules which played a part in the deaths of great men.
