  1. My opinion...you don't get that cushy consulting/board member gigs by ruffling feathers.

  2. Who cares about old shoe Chief of Staffs? This guy is the real deal. Fighter pilot, weapons officer, down to earth ops focused dude.

  3. You're going to have to do something more to entice me to come back out of retirement... again.

  4. My personal preference of CSAF would be a career ops O5 straight to CSAF. That would shake things up.

  5. Right, the last time we put a non-fighter guy in there, he made blues monday a thing...

  7. Not a finance guy but I used AirBnB for TLE when I PCSd last summer and finance accepted it no problem. I didn’t even have an itemized receipt, the finance rep just filled out a lost receipt form for me.

  8. Amen bro. But on the flip side, if your direct leadership pushed an OPR through on short timeline, it appears at least they attempted to help you. What happens at the MLR is the stuff of sorcery and unless you're a shiny penny it's tough to fare well there. If you're 1APZ this year, that puts you 15 years in service by my count. On the downslope now to check of the month club and when you retire, no one in your new job and/or new life will give a shit what you retired as. A lot of people in the Air Force game think it matters. But it doesn't. We're all gonna be Mr. or Ms. in the not too distant future. Hang in there.

  9. At least one had a PCSM below the threshold they wanted but I don't know about the other person.

  10. Can anyone explain to me why these guys are unwilling to ruffle feathers at that point in their careers? They can't advance beyond their current position, and they're financially secure for the rest of their lives. All of them preach integrity, but not one is willing to fall on his sword (Integrity for you, career advancement for me). The best I can come up with is that these dudes think if they toe the line hard enough, they might get a shot at Chairman of JCS. That's pretty brazen to sacrifice your entire branch of service to maybe get one last promotion before you retire. I'm genuinely curious to hear everyone's thoughts.

  11. Maybe...but is he going to hold the frozen middle accountable? Seems like each recent CSAF has great background/ideas, but the same difficulty executing because of the bureaucracy in between.

  12. What I've heard (beginning of February) is that they are going to let people know in about a month about the meet and greet and/or application. My thought is that they had a high number of applicants and wanted to narrow it down sooner rather than later and they are working the details of the meet and greet. I'd imagine we would probably hear something shortly after their March UTA either way.

  14. Your SR didn’t do you any favors by including a Lt Col (s) in your pool for stratification. I would not have racked you against a select. That said, based on these numbers (and assuming no derogatory information) you'll likely be selected. Those are real strats not “#2/45 IPs” type BS.

  15. If you think you want to fly fighters, do it. You can always ask for the door after your first assignment to be useful elsewhere (bet you won’t). Plug for FAIPing: you’ll get three years to figure out where you want to spend the following time. Will build decision room for you and your family. Opens some doors (U-2, B-2), makes other things more difficult. QOL in the U-2 is extremely high with pretty good family life. You pay your dues early and often, but with short trips. There should be one or two U-2 guys kicking around SPS who can tell you about it and help you figure out if you’re the right fit for that job.

  16. Now, all of those women who weren't joining the Air Force because of that blasted 3rd verse of the song will decide to become Airpersons. Mission-critical issue solved. Leadership at its finest.

  17. The problem is ISIS, AQ, etc. will always be a transnational problem. It’s never going to work to simply leave somewhere and trust the locals to keep a lid on Islamic terrorist group’s unquenchable thirst for total world domination. So, we’ll be killing these fucks for the rest of our existence, with varying levels of manning and materiel commitments. Don’t worry boys, that RipIt stock will never tank.

  18. Just received IPZ PRF for Lt Col. I received a P 😞 that was with: #1/5 Majors (deployed) #6/24 Majors (Gp/CC) #22/150 Majors (Wg/CC) #7/160 Majors (Wg/CC) all on 4 different OPRs im at a new organization now.... currently stratted #2/7, only behind a Lt Col (S)....but “lucky” me, that’s on my PRF, and it looks bad IMO

  19. Started going to AFG in 2002. Was last there in 2018. I visited most, if not all, C-130 capable airfields in the country. In addition to the most important/worst part, the human cost, we watched the bases go from old Soviet buildings, to tents, to B-huts, to shipping containers, to hard billets, and then abandoned. Buckets to port-a-pots, to cadillacs, to proper shitters, then abandoned. The continuous pouring of square miles of concrete at every airfield. Giant bases created in the open desert and then bulldozed. The contractors everywhere. We looked down on the continuous train of supply trucks stretching halfway across the country from Pakistan. Watched the 24/7 arrival of equipment, MRAPs, M-ATVs, earthmovers, construction equipment, trucks for years on end. All used up and now rotting in giant graveyards. Trillions of dollars disposed of in that wasteland. No point, just don't know what to think of it all.
