  3. The 122d Fighter Squadron is planning to hold an Inexperienced hiring board on Sunday, 17 May 2020. Please contact Maj Stanley Cheng at 122fspilothiring@gmail.com if you're interested in visiting the World Famous Bayou Militia over March or April drill (14-15 March, 4-5 April). Cheers, Lt Col Sam Joplin Commander, 122d Fighter Squadron

  4. Shack. The ADSC was the death knell. Nobody who is interested in this program wants to be on the hook for that long, or at all. That guarantees you a 365. As for the pay issue, Over 6 year flight pay in 1990 was $650, it’s currently $700. Adjusted for inflation it should be $1,282 per month. The AF can pay $800 in flight pay for Over 6, and $1000 for Over 10 but they refuse. I’m not saying it’s all about the money, but erosion of these benefits over time has an effect on retention. I didn’t even mention BAH value cuts. Fixing issues like this and allowing guys to stay on a ‘fly-only’ track that preserves their ability to make decisions about their future might get them to stay for an additional assignment or two. 5. First of all, get palace chase out of your mind. The likelihood is extremely low. If you’re always focused on an early exit, you’ll continue to perform in the middle of the pack, and your options will reflect that. In terms of family stuff, welcome to the party. I had my 4th kid during ENJJPT over a decade ago and my 5th during an AFSOC ops assignment. It doesn’t get easier, for you or the spouse. That said, once you get to your squadron, you’ll find that most people are doing the family thing. It’s a big shift from upt. For airframe, there was some good advice above. I’ve been in many communities and fwiw, I like flying low and making explosions. I also like hanging out with people who enjoy those things, because they make me better. Figure out what you want, and then do that.

  6. It also came with a 20, yes 20 year ADSC. So yes, people avoided it like Coronavirus. I think the option to coast as a grey beard Maj or 0-5 flying the line and perma ADO, coupled with a 100k bonus is the only option to even put a dent in the retention numbers.

  7. Part of the problem is there were 69 caveats in the PSDM to the Fly Only track. The lack of dudes signing up wasn't much of a surprise around the squadron.

  8. Townhall meeting with the Trumpster went well to say the least. Didn’t expect anything less. It’s not that it was Fox News, it was nice to hear coherent thought verbally executed concisely and with confidence whether right or wrong according to your view. On the other side: It’s NOT going to go well if you can’t remember who your wife is, or have your wife say “Your OK Joe!” when your stage gets jumped by a Dairy Heckler, declare $150 million people are killed by guns every year in the U.S., can’t remember the Declaration of Independence end statement but replaces it with ‘You know, the thing’ OR even know what state your campaigning in. The list goes on and on. Personally I’m just trying to ignore declaring Beto as your gun clean up guy; although, the “Beto” clearance sales at the gun shows have been awesome. My wife mentioned: “Parents wouldn’t trust him to be a crossing guard guiding/protecting their children everyday and this supposedly has the potential to be The President of these United States.” If/when these two end up in the debates, it’s going to be a slaughter. Probably won’t be perceived as it went bad as much as it was just sad. I believe the opposition is hoping for a Mike Tyson vs Buster Douglas upset/outcome that happened inTokyo back in 1990. Granted, it did take 10 rounds and there won’t be but 3 Presidential Debates. *The Impeachment attempt has always made sense for the other side and has become even more apparent everyday.

  9. If you can get a fighter (preferable single seat), go there. If you can't go fighters, find the closest ANG squadron to your home town (or wherever you want to live some day) and pick whatever plane they fly.

  10. And this is what the real truth is. You want him to ruin any chance he has of positive impact for the force for the future. He goes balls to the wall for what and lose any ability to advocate for the service. He's got to fall in line with all kinds of civilian leadership, on top of ensuring he gets buy in from the 3-stars and up that his changes will continue. Are there people here who really believe there'll be mass retirements in protest from the eligible 4-stars over...additional duties, or 1 failed aircraft acquisition? Is it just jr. Capt's on here complaining the Finger's has done nothing but the song changes and the light attack? CSS' have grown, and we've seen more power return to the Sq CC's that have had the balls to use it. If yours hasn't...that's not on Fingers. I've also seen a thawing of the frozen middle we detest at the ops levels...staff is going to take awhile. 2 line PRF's, extended the HPO pole years and come down on the way we're grooming officers, Cyber moved to ACC, and there's been tons of good growth there that came from HAF, changes to our IDE selection and ability to attending/timing, tons of positive changes to the E-side of the house. I've seen the attitude of the USAF change positively since he's taken over.

  11. Pick the mission you want to do and put no more thought into it. Hopefully you’ve gleaned from above that EVERYONE is on the road, has long days, works weekends, and does it all with varying levels of outside-work issues. I have friends who thought heavies would be the jam for reasons you stated, they hated it. Other friends same story, but with fighters. LL for those guys: pick the mission you’ll enjoy, not the one you think will have “better” QOL, time at home, least workload, etc. If you can’t stomach that idea for the next 10 years, then in all seriousness stop now. I hope you don’t though, because I think you’re young and think your problems are more difficult to manage than reality; you’ll be fine and continue to figure life management out as you mature. That’s not meant to shit on you, we’ve all been through it in our young-mid 20s (I took e-leave in UPT also).
