  1. I’ll be honest, you win for question I least expected with all the shit going on.

  2. If I'm on Trump's campaign team...I pivot from the economy to talking about how great the reduction in carbon emissions has been in 2020 and how committed my administration is in fighting climate change. Obama never managed such a rapid reduction in pollution during his eight years in the office.

  6. I found this old post from over 11 years ago, which I quoted above. Despite the fact the OP is an asshole, I wanted to reiterate the relevance of his statement about coming to Beale to get a first-hand look at The Program before you apply. Don't interview, get accepted, PCS there... only to find out the U-2 isn't for you. If that happens, you have no one to blame but yourself.

  7. Damn it that would have been fun... Well kept T-33 in aggressor colors for a what could be if the AF still gave a shit about flying... #bitterandcrusty Add pods, radars, sensors, etc... with a new build airframe, engines, avionics, links, etc... you have a platform to segue to different missions: aggressor, light attack, support and utility platform, flight based training, etc... Amen. They took the CTP from the Global Hawk right as I got there. The CTP budget to rent Aero Club aircraft and fly all the GH pilots at the time (early 2000s) cost less than the copier toner budget for the FY at the 12th RS about 90k at the time, it was cheap and effective therefore it had to be killed.

  9. Getting old isn’t for Sissys (Oh S—t, I’m again not PC). Wife and I had dinner a few nights ago with a good friend, 87, (retired 2 Star GO) that flew everything. FAC’d and Huns in several Tours....Anyway, he’s in great shape but expressed his concern about being in the Death Zone because of his age. Ended the evening toasting to the friends and the fun we had....

  10. People who go through URT are factually not pilots. You’re also talking from shortsightedness: for at least ten years the majority of this forum was advocating for a companion trainers for pilots assigned to UAVs. Frankly, the spirit of this article sounds a lot like gratuitous whining like Longhorn alludes to than any actionable solution.

HU&W, I come from a different PC (not) Community.....and the Quote, wasn't a Quote, but radio chatter where a statement was being made to the intensity of being/going Downtown and words were something akin to "shut up and die like a Naval aviator". Told the story of this Thud but finally found a pic...

  13. Thanks man! Always nice to help out an AF coworker! Don't feel I did anything special...just did what I'd want a friend to do for me. Glad we scored a great rate for you...I'm actually shocked we got it. This has been the craziest week ever...Mon 2.875, Tues 3.375, Wed 3.25, Thur, 2.75-2.875, Fri 3.49 on 30yr fixed VAs. Never seen swings like this before. I'm telling people if you don't need to lock (closing within 30 days) that it's best to sit on your hands right now. Today for the first time ever I saw VA and Conventional rate match...usually a .5%+ spread. This market is all over the place. Refi's are up 479% year over year nationally which is killing the mortgage industry/Wall Street. Seems that rates are artificially high because Wall Street is trying to kill the demand. Refi's are dead for now. Sorry definitely no crystal ball on where this is going. We're still the lowest in the country but what that looks like changes everyday. Hopefully we'll start seeing the market settle in the next couple weeks. Jon

  14. Did you see Ed Bastian's email today? I’ve seen several airline CEOs now say the decline in bookings and revenue (and therefore planned capacity cuts) is greater than after 9/11, which is generally what I’m referring to. I think we will see more planes parked and larger revenue losses over the next 6-9 months than the 6-9 months following 9/11. Thank God we at least have a bunch of retirements this time, and the proliferation of RJs and age 65 won’t add to the issues that plagued the lost decade. And hopefully the economy snaps back after this passes...but even if it does, there will be lasting damage to the industry that will take a few years to recover (namely sustained lower demand). Anyway, here is most of Ed’s email if you haven’t seen it: “Demand for travel is declining at an accelerated pace daily, driving an unprecedented revenue impact. Cancellations are rising dramatically with net bookings now negative for travel over the next four weeks. To put that in perspective, we’re currently seeing more cancellations than new bookings over the next month. The speed of the demand fall-off is unlike anything we’ve seen – and we’ve seen a lot in our business. We are moving quickly to preserve cash and protect our company. And with revenues dropping, we must be focused on taking costs out of our business. In order to do this, we are taking difficult but determined actions to protect the financial position of the company. These include: An overall capacity reduction in the next few months of 40 percent – the largest capacity reduction in Delta’s history, including 2001. Elimination of flying to continental Europe for the next 30 days, which could be extended. We will maintain service to London. Parking up to 300 aircraft as our reduced capacity requires a substantially smaller fleet. Deferring new aircraft deliveries to manage our reduced capacity and preserve cash. Reducing capital expenditures by at least $2 billion for the year, including delaying aircraft mods, IT initiatives and other opportunities to preserve cash. Immediately offering voluntary short-term, unpaid leaves as well as an immediate hiring freeze. Substantially reducing the use of consultants and contractors. We’ll be making more critical decisions on our response in days to come. The situation is fluid and likely to be getting worse.”

  15. Hey, thanks! I did get picked up! It worked out at a Reserve unit who was comfortable doing age waivers and it was approved. I am still waiting on official OTS dates because at this time I only have projected dates from the 340th. I was planning on writing up a longer post once everything is sorted out with that. I was hired around the end of 2018 at this unit, it's a long process! Rickenbacker originally told me they wouldn't do waivers and then a few months later called me up out of the blue and told me to come in for a "pop up" board but I had already started the process with my current unit. As for advice, I followed what @FDNYOldGuy did as best I could even though he did an even better job than I did! Do everything you can possibly do before you even apply or get an interview. It will make a difference, trust us. Get your FC1 done on your own dime if you can and check out the things offered on BogiDope. I did a mock interview with them and it definitely helped. If you have specific questions, you can always pm me.

  16. One of the highlights of Owens' ROI was in his own statement to the investigator. “In history the transition did not go well when a C-17 pilot, and commander, came into a C-130 wing, such as Little Rock.”

  17. Any word on Fort Worth Vipers? Also an update for Selfridge. The most recent thing I’ve been told is that we’re doing a meet n’ greet during our April drill, and a board in May. Still unknown what contents are desired in an application but PM me and I can give you the hiring POC’s UPT e-mail Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  18. Faips progress a bit faster than their peers... slightly. But not really important. Your issue highlights why Adair T38s worked fairly well. Cheap, plentiful, and UPT newbies that went there got faip-like hours with added tactical experience. As an added bonus the Tyndall Adair kids got to fly to/from/in the same airspace and see the b-course missions and debriefs (from the other side of the table). I think it freed up a lot of brain cells later since they weren’t having to learn motherhood (to from airspace, shot Val litany, etc) fresh in the b-course. also was the way upt next was headed (at least last I heard). UPT to IFF to Adair to bourse.

  19. I’d expect an announcement will come tomorrow or Monday... but I would expect the Demo Teams to be stood down until the end of May. I flew to San Diego today to announce the Blue Angels’ season opener at El Centro. I got off the plane... got a phone call telling me the show was cancelled... walked three gates to my right and was on the return flight to Sacramento 55 minutes later. LA County, Yuma, Laughlin and McDill all cancelled about the same time. Looks like Navy Contracting is going to only pay me a fraction of my contract. Even as a retiree, if you do business with the Govt, be ready to deal with the “I have no control over that” mentality.

  22. That was possibly the most consequential speech of Trump’s presidency. It had to be perfect. Too many clarifications had to be issued in the hours afterward on basic policy issues. The underlying message was meant to instill confidence, but the inconsistencies created confusion. He presented it well, but his staff didn’t do him any favors.

  23. So you are trying to switch Laughlin for Vance? Bro good luck that’s like offering a kia for a BMW. Good luck! Also jokes aside I’ll ask around and see if anyone is interested.
