Because the A1 and AFPC cohort believe they have to keep the blinders on the middle 80% to retain sufficient numbers of eligibles for senior positions. Everybody knows who #1 is, and most people know who #2 is. We all also know who the bottom 10% are. The trick is making #3 thru #75 all believe they’re #3 and that they have a chance. That way, they’re all willing to do the things that are expected of #3 and if #3 thru #25 all punch, we can pretend #26 was #3 all along, and he’ll believe it. If the middle thinks they’re, out of the running, A1 and AFPC will lose their denominator.6 points

Uhhhh I would not describe the ROK as pacifist. Having worked closely with them I think there were more times we had to pull them off then fence than the other way around. Also, this is not neccessarily a good thing. It's certainly better than full on hostilities but if you've seen the discussion on what would happen if nK internally collapsed you would know the global security crises it's likely to generate is going to be massive.4 points

This is the BS I hate about the Air Force promotion system, why is there a secret language? For instance, the wording on when you’re ready for Sq/CC on the push line can be really stellar or killer for promotion. Why not just give people honest feedback instead of mincing words on an OPR? As a young exec I saw a SQ/CC OPR come through that said “staff blah blah..WG/CV next,” I thought to my self at the time, that’s pretty good! Then someone explained to me that if you don’t have a Wing/CC push as a Sq/CC you’re pretty much garbage .. I would like to see us move to more of an Army / Marine evaluation system. I’d rather be told I’m 19/20 FGOs like you would in the Marines and be given honest feedback then the uncertain BS push line language we have now.4 points

His heart was so full with love for The People that it could no longer sustain his worldly body 😁 Screw that guy, glad if he's dead. Will be interesting to see how stable NK is without a clear heir...I'm sure China is on red alert, a global pandemic is a terrible time for a massive refugee crisis.3 points

I got passed over with "if I had one more DP" on my bottom line. Not optimistic about my chances with "promote now" and #5/10 eligibles as 1 APZ. Buy I can stop doing any kind of careerist stuff and focus on QOL. I'll never have to take about job or volunteer for another project "because it will be good for your OPR". There's a certain freedom in that.1 point

From my limited time working these, honestly very average but better than not having it. On the O side you want the definitely promote or the if I had one more line. Yours basically says if your records are good enough, promote him, but he isn’t my top. Not having the promote now however would be a message that they don’t think you are ready. We just switched to a whole new system though so who knows what normal is now.1 point

In other news, you can now paint your garden boxes that you've installed on your motor boat, while working on your short game in MI now.1 point

When there’s not a lot of sky to hang onto, making sure it doesn’t fall out of it is an attention demanding job. There’s as much to do as you’re willing to invest. Some missions are way more demanding than others, but on the ones where you’re not constantly worried about putting the airplane in the right place without bending it, there’s room to be an athlete in other ways. “Optimizing collect” or just paying attention to what’s going around you is a full time job. Lots of folks working hard to make it one of the busiest (and most capable) cockpits in the Air Force.1 point

Well Jesus died once, so not sure how that factors in. Elijah didn’t die and possibly not Enoch depending on how you read that passage of the Bible. But yeah pretty close to 100%. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app1 point

I applaud you for wanting to be involved in the flying business even though your primary route didn’t go as planned. Whatever you do, just be the best at it. I can think of a civilian secretary we had at my last squadron who was awesome at everything he did and was truly a joy to be around. That guys ability to help on a variety of personnel and admin issues really did enhance our ability to focus on the mission and get better. At the end of the day, that secretary did more for the team (squadron) than a lot of the aircrew members did. Best of luck!1 point

Well, our Navy, the best Navy in the world, deserves a better Secretary. I wager a case of Pliney IPAs that CAPT Crozier drafted that message, read it 50 more times, sipping a scotch or whatever hooch he has squirreled away in his office, gazed out the window at the sea reminiscing of good times, and knew once he hit send, his career was over, but his folks might get the help he wanted them to get, and that was worth it. It's a shame shit like this has to happen, but it will keep happening because we will always have piss poor people in important jobs above us. And I just guessing here, but a few more heads will roll, probably starting with the "Adm down the hall." Out1 point

Two points that have irked me. First, nothing in the letter he sent was classified information. Having spent 18 years in the Navy, I’m pretty familiar with what reporting requirements are classified on ship readiness. The Captain was brilliant in the way he phrased his letter because none of it hit the classified mark. Second, he is being denigrated for the letter leaking. From some friends of mine on the 7th Fleet staff, he didn’t leak it, someone else did. Holding Capt Crozier responsible for it leaking would be the same as me sending a SIPR email, it gets leaked by someone on the to or cc line, and it’s my fault it leaked. Capt Crozier did what he needed to to help his sailors. I’m not surprised he got fired because it made his chain of command look bad, and people don’t like being told by their subordinates that they are all ed up.1 point
