A little story about lying to the authorities: When I was being investigated for sexual assault, they wired my accuser in an attempt to record a confession. Since I didn't assault her, there was no confession. However when the summary of the recording was given to the commanders who decided to proceed with my case, it referenced three separate admissions of guilt, with partial quotes as evidence of wrongdoing. Slam dunk, jail time for sure. That's what they told my commander. it wasn't until the trial when the tapes were played in their entirety. Those confessions? Turns out they weren't exactly what they were portrayed as. In fact, they were so supportive of my case, the lead prosecutor, who hadn't reviewed the tape thoroughly, stumped himself without me saying a word. My point? Even I didn't remember what was on that tape. I had no idea that I was being recorded at the time, and by the time I was asked about it months had passed. So when I was told that my words were on that tape, essentially admitting guilt, it was very difficult to answer any questions about it. Fortunately for me, and not so fortunately for Flynn, I was smart enough to know that there's no point in talking to the authorities. I have no doubt they would have tried to do exactly the same thing they did with him, and had I fallen for it, I would have undone my own innocence. Memory is a tricky thing. nNw imagine if OSI had already known, via a video recording, that I was completely innocent of sexual assault. And then imagine that they had still pulled me in, lied to me about what was on the tape, in the hopes that they would get me to incorrectly recount a 2-month-old conversation from memory, then get me for lying to them about the conversation. Not the assault, which they already knew didn't happen. People need to go to prison for this.5 points

Airborne in my plane 10 miles west of him when it happened. WX was kind of crappy with a lot of haze, an unforecast scud deck from 2500' down to 1200'. The winds were kicking this morning at 1000' I had 30 knots out of the southeast .4 points

Perpetual war is not the bug, it's the feature. The mission is pork barrel baby, we're just the patsies. There's a few people in life I'd take a bullet for, none of them currently populate our 3 branches of federal government.2 points

It only took 20 years to make it happen. But it happened... finally. Another success to chalk up for the current leadership at Beale. Well done. It's a great time to be in the 9th.2 points

Yet most of Kuwait is still built out of tents. Long term planning is hard in an organization where leaders only reap the rewards they are present for and think little of what they do now effecting anything further than 18 months out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Yes I'll be reapplying for 20OT04 (couldn't do 20OT2 because you have to wait 6 months after being nonselected or declining a previous offer). Keep your physical fitness up and do well at OTS and maybe you can throw in a package to ENJJPT (look that up in the forums there is some gouge on people doing that here).1 point

When you do watch the vid, you’ll probably think the Navy needs a school to emphasize fighter maneuvering and dogfighting because they have become too reliant on a-a missiles. disclaimer: not qualified to throw spears but what if they had that...1 point

If you read his definition of what he considers BFM (maneuvering to a WEZ to employ) and the context of this thread (safety vice relevance of training), then why is control zone BFM given so much time and effort? Because of the mechanics and broad spectrum of skills it teaches. Same argument for continuing form approaches and landings. And your earlier assertion that scores of people have died doing form landings is incorrect (https://static.e-publishing.af.mil/production/1/aetc/publication/aetch11-210/aetch11-210.pdf) according to Road to Wings. A quick Wikipedia search of F-15 accident history (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_F-15_losses) is chocked full of dozens of accidents from BFM training that hasn’t been put to combat use in decades. I don’t think you’d advocate that all of that stops under the guise of safety. Even though BFM is demonstrably more dangerous than formation landings.1 point

Shack! Ya, sending us to the fucking arctic (northern tier Europe) in the dead of winter made great sense. Between inlet icing, ridiculous amounts of snow and no fucking tacan within 275 miles, we ended up weather cancelling more than we actually flew (no shit >50% attrition)....despite our best efforts to get USAFE waivers for wx reqs. We actually had to send guys to the sims in Spang just so we could actually get our sorties for the month because guys were going non-CMR. We were there 2 months before we even knew there was an A-team on the other side of base who might want to integrate with us. So ya, you're probably right, that has Army written all over it! But hey, this guy has over 175,000 hyatt points and another 150,000 points with another major chain and platinum status with both. I'm single/no kids so I'm always up for an adventure. That said, our last two trips were both divorce magnets and morale killers. Hate to see that happen for trips that feel like you're having zero impact on anything, all while having road block after road block when you try to have a positive impact. Time to open beer another beer and get off my lawn!1 point

You'd be surprised about how much HAF/ACC actually pushes back against the Joint Staff...but we all have a boss, even at that level. JOINT is spelled ARMY so we're fighting a cultural battle in some regards.1 point

Flynn was not charged nor plead guilty to perjury. He was charged with making a false statement to FBI agents. But the false statement is only a crime if the underlying reason the FBI was interviewing him had a basis in fact for such an investigation. Which it did not. According to FBI documents and personnel engaged with this at the time. That info was never revealed to Flynn or the court, despite it being mandatory to do so and the judge specifically ordering DOJ to provide any such. Then DOJ scoffed at the notion. And then the material was released last week. It was revealed that Flynn's interview basis was not material, therefore the lie (which the agents said they didn't think he was, btw) to the FBI doesn't matter legally. If he lied to Pence, that's between them. Both sides agreed to drop the case. The judge is now making up a charge of perjury to the court because Flynn pled guilty to the court. Twice. The judge seems to think that's perjury. Not a lawyer, but I'm fairly sure that this isn't the first time a defendant has made a guilty plea only to seek to withdraw it later. And the de facto prosecutor that the judge has appointed was a co-author of a very anti-Flynn and DOJ op-ed in Monday's Washington Post. Doesn't seem to be a disinterested party. Shenanagins on the part of the judge and most likely to be stomped on at appeal.1 point

I’m sorry, I guess I missed the part where Flynn didn’t admit to lying, then admitted again to lying during another pre-trial hearing to the judge during the plea inquiry? Even when he wanted to change his plea to not guilty he still never said he didn’t lie. What was he fired for again? Something, something, lying to Pence? You can do three things when law enforcement is “interviewing” you: tell the truth, lie, shut the fuck up. I recommend doing the latter. I don’t really want to hear about “entrapment” coming from a career military officer, who was a commander at various levels throughout his career, which meant he probably “interviewed” and gave Article 31 right advisements to people suspected of committing a crime. Since Barr is Trump’s personal lapdog, the dismissal isn’t surprising. It was either that a pardon. I expect to see Roger Stone’s pardon by the end of the year.-1 points

Exactly. The official prosecutor, DOJ, says that the investigation wasn't based on anything factual, therefore it's a invalid investigation. If so, then any alleged lie to the FBI (the agents involved didn't think he lied according to the now missing 302 - edited to remain in the original FBI agent's voice but with a different slant by corrupt Stryck and Page), is immaterial and moot legally. So why is the judge trying to act as a prosecutor? Both sides of the criminal case are saying, "Never mind." Yet the judge isn't letting it go. Why? As to your Trump tweet post - news yesterday is that the FBI and DOJ have NEVER produced a recording or transcript of the call in question. Not once. They briefed Pence on a paraphrased version of the call. So if they said Flynn lied, Pence was led to believe Flynn did so. But what if the FBI lied to Pence? Certainly reason to believe that the senior FBI folks at the time were capable of doing so - bogus, repeated FISA warrant applications, a bogus CI investigation of the incoming administration, leaking to the press, etc, etc. The FBI has removed itself from me giving it the benefit of doubt as to its integrity. Not most rank and file, I believe. But as an institution? Yeah, I'm squinty-eyed at it. Which as naïve on my part, since I, and believe most of us, will acknowledge Big Blue as behaving the same. Why would any other government leviathan be different? On the political side of this, Flynn being fired by a President is something I could care less about. Weaponizing the IC and justice system to settle political scores and/or screw your replacement President is a big deal. Because if allowed to stand, it will happen again. Regardless of party. And if it happens again to the big dogs, what does mean for the peons like us? I'm agin that.-1 points
