  1. This. The federal government will not relinquish control over the entire election process once they have it. Add it to the list of programs that the federal government mishandles on scales that are hard to measure. Like the USPS... The Dems will get what they want on this one. But, it is going to bite them. It will be a complete clusterfuck just like Trump has said. We will not know the results for months and the mistakes, miscounts, lost ballets, fraud and the rest will end up in the court system being litigated for years. Trump will then be accused of not wanting to leave office. I can't wrap my mind around smart people here actually advocating for the federal government to take control over our voting rights. IT IS THE PROCESS THAT PROTECTS US FROM THE GOVERNMENT. How can anyone seriously think they can pull this off regardless of your political leanings? There are endless threads on this very website detailing many of the things that the federal government mishandles. They won't get this one right either. It will be a disaster of epic proportions.

  3. True story, I'm at OAMS and I have a new guy I send out to C-5 to ask a pilot if everything is good and if they will be leaving on time. He went out to a IL-76 . Yes knowing the correct MDS is important, you can't park 4 KC-10s in the same space as 4 KC-135's.

  4. I’d say it just adds to the list. Some Lt Gen just sent me another survey to fill out; I love more material. I actually think the cultural “only pilots need to know if that’s a Russian airplane” is equally disturbing.

  5. First, this exact thing is done in several states and has been done successfully for decades. Second, few new states are conducting all-mail elections in 2020. Most are using existing absentee voting systems, which the President likes and personally utilizes, to allow more people to vote via absentee ballot given the raging pandemic. Four new states are doing all-mail elections this year, and only one (Nevada) is even remotely a battleground state. So you’re in luck! The thing you are against isn’t happening almost anywhere meaningful in terms if who becomes the next President. Some states are mailing absentee ballot applications to voters or allowing more groups to assist voters in obtaining absentee applications, which again, is different than all-mail voting. The President seems ok with this too, or at least his campaign is...see this example of Trump campaign materials from North Carolina, which includes an absentee ballot request form.

  6. I did NCOA at Tyndall. Hated it. A bunch of of guys that were out of touch telling me how the real Air Force works. I told them this was Red Flag for shoe clerks(a quote I stole from a crusty Ltc about SOS back in the 80s). I wasn't voted class president.

  9. Here's an email that was previously sent back in January to a number of different recipients, both at Dover, the AF Historian and heraldry folks, as well as CSAF. Apparently none of those folks are concerned about the symbolism of Flankers flying over our military dead and our folded flag enough to fix it.

  16. The practice was written into our OG/Sup to the v2. The intent was to minimize workload for the evaluator being able to send a single email that would “brief” sq leadership and assist with the Go/No-Go process. We routinely jumped between two Ops squadrons and an FTU so sometimes it was a scheduling snafu trying to find 1522’s or a temp Form 8 located at the other squadrons before the final was signed. This email helped alleviate that.

  18. Are you talking about the MAJCOM course or the new AETC course. Because I've done the AETC one and it was phenomenal. It needs to be taught at ROTC, SOS and at least once or twice more in there. Summary of the course: "How to be a better human being to people."

  22. I tried reading your post with an open mind... but you lost me at “all racists are Trump supporters.” Most ignorant and naive comment for the month goes to you. (Albeit it was your “friend” who said it but you clearly support such a notion.) Congratulations. As a brown/south Asian guy, I went to HS post 9/11. I faced my fair share of racism. I don’t hate them, they were ignorant teenagers. But when I look back at many of them, they turned out to be some of the most staunch/vocal SJW democrats. So I know your “all racists are Trump supporters” is utter BS. Trump is a polarizing figure, but it is dudes like you that create more Trump supporters. I didn’t like the guy at the beginning of his campaign but it is pompous folks like you that actually drew me too him. So keep it up!!

  23. Some valid points here although Greece and Turkey have both been members since 1952 so we seem to have that mostly figured out although craniums up w/ Erdogan as the new Sultan-for-life. In general I still strongly believe that alliances make us stronger; even accounting for when we have some back-stabbing allies like Saudi or Turkey that at times pursue agendas or allow problems to fester that are supremely unhelpful to our goals. I agree that NATO needed a new purpose after the Cold War ended, but I would argue that Russia is fully back as a major threat to western liberal democracy in terms of ideological and global power competition, and China is an even bigger competitor in that space. Frankly the US could use a better unified NATO, including all the periphery states in eastern and Southern Europe, to join with us and stand against non-democratic, non- or state/crony-capitalist, anti-human rights regimes that are out there actively wielding both hard and soft power across the globe. If you like voting and freedoms and individual rights, a strong US-led alliance like NATO should be the champion of that world-view. Sounds like a great purpose to me and the U.S. can achieve better results at driving the alliance toward that with cooperative leadership rather than poke-em-in-the-eye transactional squabbling and “America First.”

  24. I never thought this would happen, but I agree with Brick. Just because the Obama Administration determined capturing al-Awlaki “infeasible” doesn’t negate his right to due process as an American citizen. This looks especially bad since the U.S. has suspected terrorists, who aren’t U.S. Citizens, in GITMO since 2001 we’re currently trying to give due process to. A U.S. Citizen doesn’t lose their Constitutional rights just because they’re hard to capture and bring to trial. “It is during our most challenging and uncertain moments that our Nation’s commitment to due process is most severely tested; and it is in those times that we must preserve our commitment at home to the principles for which we fight abroad.” - Justice O’Connor

  25. I have quite a few. And I know that all it takes is for you to quote the one thing you disagree with for you to feel like I’m entirely wrong, but I encourage you to suppress that notion and respond in kind. It’s given my friends the courage to unabashedly post QAnon videos without a second thought. It’s allowed for people I once respected to just say “do your own research” and “fake news” about things that are scientifically proven, such as vaccines, global warming, or even eugenics. It’s allowed my friends that I grew up with in the South to feel comfortable saying “Why shouldn’t I be able to tell a black person I’m proud of the fact that I’m white?” The culture of discourse over the last 3 years has markedly worsened. People don’t feel like they have to back up anything. “The president doesn’t, why should I?“ A byproduct of the Trump presidency is that anti-intellectualism and racism has been allowed to grow significantly and unabashedly in the last few years. And these are people I know. As one comedian said, “not all Trump supporters are racist, but all racists are Trump supporters.” On top of that, he’s not doing anything to try to calm down tensions. I have a gay brother in law that was assaulted for the first time while out with his partner. It makes me feel like I live in a less unified country. On top of that, we have made no effort to improve our economy for the future, we have no significant effort to build infrastructure for me to live in in for the next 50 years, we’ve added more debt to the national debt and balance to the federal reserves than anyone, we’ve started an irrational trade war with China that we are going to lose based on poor planning - my family owns a soybean farm and have absolutely loved the last few years (sarcasm) - we pulled out support for the Kurds (after I spent 9 months of my life flying directly over them protecting them) in an irrational and unguided Middle East plan. Foreign policy is now just say “America First,” forget the “haters,” and disregard the last 30-40 years of geopolitics. America has slashed long term plans when it comes to Global Warming, which is a thing. In the last week we saw sea temps that were 10 degrees F above baseline near the poles. There is no plan to deal with rising wealth inequality in America - and that directly affects everyone. Tax cuts haven’t enabled me or my friends to create significant wealth, instead enabling us to earn pennies less when productivity has increased orders of magnitude. Our economy is almost entirely services based and only getting worse, and Trumps best publicized bet at fixing it is bring back coal mining. Ygbsm. Good luck with our airline jobs when they get automated. My nieces and nephews have no ability to actually earn money or move out of their house when they graduate college anymore due to lack of job prospects. I think I recently read a statistic that more people 18-34 are living with their parents than with a partner for the first time in history. America is trying isolationism in 2020, which sounds cool on paper - only care about yourself - but doesn’t work when China and Russia are laying seeds for productive alliances in Africa, Asia, and South America over the next 100 years. Our foreign policy vision is terrible, and it will affect the future of America if we try to maintain this course. We need fundamental national strategy change if we want to maintain our statuses as a superpower. In 2008-2016 we did make some progress as society and in the world, in my opinion. Only about 2 people here have actually talked about what they liked in this presidency, whereas everyone else (I’m pretty sure you included) just says that I’m wrong and won’t answer my initial question. I still don’t understand what policies the majority of Republicans push for that have been enacted in the last few years, and I’d love to hear them.

  26. Good luck getting any work done in Italy. Don’t get me wrong. I had many great TDYs to Aviano and anyone who has the opportunity to be stationed there should absolutely jump on it. That said, ever try getting dip clearances or even filing a flight plan with the Italians? “A-sorry a-sir. 27. *cough = ballot harvesting - cough* It's pretty easy to see the narrative being crafted: Trump loses due to mail-in voting and it's "see the system worked." Trump wins, no matter the methods used to cast ballots and it's "That bastard cheated." Cue the riots... Hope folks got their ammo earlier because it's either nearly non-existent now or sky-high prices to obtain any

  28. Considering how many dead people got stimulus checks...I'm not sure just shotgunning ballots to the last known address of registered voters is a winning strategy.

  29. if you think that with how much the left HATES trump that they WONT DO ANYTHING TO DEFEAT HIM (mail in fraud), then you're an idiot. truly. sending a mail in ballot to every registered voter in the country has never been done. there is no STUDY. absentee voting is not the same as MASS mail voting to every voter. Americans need to get their ass to the polls, stand in line w/ their masks on, 6 feet, and vote.

  30. I fly T-38a right now and for the couple years you’ll do it you won’t have much vault time (unless you choose to). Your follow on is needs of the AF. It used to be a fast track to F-22 but now they can get: F22, F35, F16, F15, and A-10. I’ve seen guys get all of them. All of those will spend time in a vault, but if you’re going to be trapped by the AF doing something I’d rather be learning how to kill people and break things than how to fly a perfect AR circle or where to best fly in the WX to screw the fighter guys. I spent a fair amount of time in the vault but it was good living. Unless of course it’s because you have security clearance gremlins you don’t want to address....

  31. *Cliff Claven voice to ON: As a former reserve USAF historian, official unit emblems/patches cannot display specific MWS (there are historical, and approved exceptions from WWI/WWII). The no specific aircraft rule is why we have the goofy triangular thingie on various badges, i.e., ABM badge and wings, et al, and on various squadron patches. Most likely, this isn't/wasn't designed with specific silhouttes of a Flanker, just either a bad drawing sent to the manufacturer by the unit originator and/or a bad production of said design. Is this really what we have to worry about today in "What's wrong with the Air Force?"
