We are literally de-evolving intellectually as a species. The entire point of The Enlightenment was the idea that humans could use logic and reason to transcend what had previously been tribal barriers to knowledge and understanding of other humans. That the human experience was common to all humans, and that personal experience (e.g. "my truth") could be understood and empathized with by other humans. People are now being taught from a young age -- not just through formal education, but through social cues and other informal learning, and in a wide variety of social and cultural groups -- that one's identity group is the most important characteristic of their existence, which is the diametric opposite concept. This is a road that has a bad end for human civilization.6 points

Yes, the status quo is clearly the epitome of mental acuity... “Look, having nuclear — my uncle was a great professor and scientist and engineer, Dr. John Trump at MIT; good genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart — you know, if you’re a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if, like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I’m one of the smartest people anywhere in the world — it’s true! — but when you’re a conservative Republican they try — oh, do they do a number — that’s why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went there, went there, did this, built a fortune — you know I have to give my like credentials all the time, because we’re a little disadvantaged — but you look at the nuclear deal, the thing that really bothers me — it would have been so easy, and it’s not as important as these lives are — nuclear is so powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of what’s going to happen and he was right, who would have thought? — but when you look at what’s going on with the four prisoners — now it used to be three, now it’s four — but when it was three and even now, I would have said it’s all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don’t, they haven’t figured that the women are smarter right now than the men, so, you know, it’s gonna take them about another 150 years — but the Persians are great negotiators, the Iranians are great negotiators, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us, this is horrible.”4 points

No, units aren't that short sighted. There's normally a lull towards the end of the calendar year. It's possible some units have said it's not worth the trouble to hire during COVID, but I'd be surprised if that was the case. Most units have 1, maybe 2 guys a year coming back to the unit from the training pipeline. When someone is hired, the guy won't be flying in the unit for what is almost always a minimum of 3 years. Meanwhile, guys past their 10 year mark can call it quits with a MUCH shorter lead time. So do you really think they'd stop hiring people that they won't see for 3+ years because some guys are getting furloughed now? And don't quote me on this, but I think the seasoning time comes out of a separate pot of money. I'm pretty sure guys on their seasoning orders aren't taking up AGR spots that could be going to more senior guys. Sent from my SM-N975U using Baseops Network mobile app3 points

Wow, MX? Really? Do I look like I work for a living? I was ops, baby. 961st @ RODN. As to the "old wives tale, (which is both sexist, ageist, and decidely privileged of you...20 lashes and some reparations oughtta do it...), I've not heard it about the E-3. I've heard it re the many flavors of RJ's with all their protruberances, but not the E-3. It's always someone else's jet that sucks, not your own... Story I heard was that back in the 1960s/1970s when E-3 was originally designed and fielded, everybody that flew it or in it had male genitalia because it was a "combat" aircraft and those with female genitalia weren't allowed in combat. This was a true statement for being a missileer as well (ask me how I know...). Fast forward, to the 1980s when women became a "thing," and it was politically untenable for Big Blue to put women in combat or on such coded airplanes. Viola, combat support it is for everyone! And since it wasn't a combat-coded jet, the thousands of parachutes that formerly were carried in the oh-so-comfortable hollowed out bolt-upright seats designed to put a back parachute in were deleted along with the life support for same. Big dollar savings for Big Blue as well. I'm not sure when the ashtrays were finally pulled. So if that's the case, why do E-3 and E-8 (also me at one time) have to go through survival training? If there's no way out voluntarily in an emergency, then the chances of surviving a non-8,000 ft gear down landing are slim at best. Seems like even more money could be saved, but I digress. Anyway, that's the story I was told by the old guys of my day. So since I'm a really old guy now, they may have been around when it happened. YMMV.2 points

Odd, as no one seems to be demanding the NBA and NHL "accurately reflect national diversity rates!" But thank God we have the USAF to save us from ourselves! Well, you. I punched out of this game a long time ago...2 points

I did. Apparently he says it was a sarcastic remark meant to highlight the problems with voting by mail. The article clearly states the administration’s position. However, this is from the same man who has encouraged Republicans to vote in Democratic primaries with the intent of creating havoc and insisted he was joking when he suggested injecting disinfectant into the human body when clearly he was serious. His suggestion that his supporters show up at polling places to ensure their mail in vote was counted completely negates the idea of voting by mail as a method of mitigating virus spread and further shows that the man is only motivated by the preservation of his own inflated ego.1 point

Sorry, I'm not really with you on this one. The Republicans have more than proved themselves to be, at best, Democrat-lite, and more often than not, as anti-Trump as the crazies. To wit, failing to support Trump after he won the nomination in 2016. They rejected the rank and file party's rejection of them. So I quit the GOP then. Failing to overturn Obamacare when they held both Houses of Congress and the White House. Thanks, McCain. Failing to oust Romney (Quisling is too kind a word for him) after he voted for one of the articles of impeachment. And these are just the highlights. There's literally hundreds more examples. Oh, and failing to bring forward national reciprocity when they had the chance. A pox on both parties.1 point

Stream of consciousness or lucky to be conscious. Helluva choice. One has been in Washington for 47 years. One has been there for 3. Which one has actually accomplished anything? As in done something, not talk about it.1 point

Now your what-about is making this into a game of relativity, and everyone loses that game. This does not change that Biden is incoherent.1 point

Hiring will start getting tight due to everything going on. Your credentials are good, but I recommending enlisting with a guard unit. That'll separate you from the pack since you are in the inner circle. Personally for me, enlisting has given me the edge because I was familiar with the military and their faces.1 point

The liberal media is getting this entirely wrong, as usual. The mayor of SF, when asked if Pelosi violated the city health order: "So look, Nancy Pelosi has done so much for this city and even this country and in the midst of this pandemic and all the stuff that’s happening amidst this election, she is in Washington D.C. fighting against a tyrant every single day," Breed said. "We need to be focused on the issues and the fact that over 180,000 people have died in this country and we have a president that continues to divide us." YGBSM. Can democrats just have some integrity and condemn that she did the exact opposite of what they've been saying? Why doesn't she just admit guilt and apologize? Why is the political system so broken in this country? What choice is there for a rational voter when it's just Republicans and Democrats? Every day further convinces me that constitutional amendments are in order: ranked choice voting and term limits for people in congress.1 point

I wouldn't know. We were always forbidden to look behind the curtain and gaze upon the great and powerful flightdeck people. I assumed it was an opening the Arc of the Covenant kind of a thing...1 point

An old wives tale I heard several times (that sounds reasonable) is that there were several tests/simulations done on the E-3 (prior to the "G" mod) that involved chucking a dummy out of the bailout chute. It took the first dummy or 2 (insert ABM joke here) to clean off all of the radio antennas before the rest could successfully get out. Brick - if I remember you were involved with the E-3 from the MX side from back in the day... any thoughts on the validity?1 point

What is insane is that so many people accept without question the theory that in a truly fair and equitable world, every career field would reflect the US population's statistical spread of (insert immutable human characteristic here). There is lots and lots and lots of sociological data throughout history and spanning many societies that counters that theory. It is very, very sad that supposedly smart people in the Air Force have bought into a worldview that yields tokenism over competence.1 point

Ha haaa he said “feedback”. I think that’s the thing on your OPR where you just pick a random date and put it in the blank while you’re writing it for yourself.... Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app1 point

Sorry this is so late, but I did end up getting selected for O-4. (Thank goodness) With my furlough notice in hand, now I’m wondering if O-5 is in the cards! 🤣🤣1 point

It looks like no one here went to Nellis Airshow. However we got to bring in our A-37B (S/N 87921) after a 20 year restoration. It was the first public display of the aircraft, and it was a big hit. 1st photo is from the Nellis ramp this weekend. Two Vietnamese AF pilots that flew it stopped by and said hi... very interesting since the jet was delivered in '69 directly to the South Vietnamese AF. They flew it for 6 years and about 2200 hours of combat time. It has the 7.62 patches as a reminder. When Saigon fell 29 April 1975, it was captured by the North. We have pics of the NV crews with the jet 2-4 days after Saigon fell, and it actually flew combat missions against the South. The 2nd photo is of 87921 in NV hands. This is the only A-37B currently flying in North America. I think it is one of only 3 flying in the world. We are discussing having me fly an aerobatic routine in 2020 with it. However it will only be at a few select airshows on the West Coast. With full wing and tip tanks and 2 pilots, it weighs 9,000 lbs. The J-85's are putting out ~2750 lbs thrust each. Needless to say, for those of you that flew the T-37, there is no comparison. The acceleration is spectacular. The owner has done a fantastic job, and the cockpit is like new. The only additions are an Aspen unit and a new ADS-B and transponder. The ejection seats are cold. Side note: the Combined Arms Demo that the 57th Wing flew was unbelievable. ACC must have waived everything they've had in the AFI because for once I was blown away by an AF "display". The jets were puking flares like it was going out of style. Loud, fast, low. Nice job to Maj "Stranger" Davenport and the Nellis folks for a jaw-dropping display.1 point
