  1. Whoa sparky, calm down. The linked story literally had nothing in it calling out a conspiracy, even going so far as to say it was due purely to “inattention.” I think the point of posting it was that even the commander in chief’s office made one of the same mistakes that pisses off a lot of Air Force pilots. How can we hold orgs like PA to a higher standard if the CiC’s office does the same thing? Also, I’m positive this would have been linked if Biden or Clinton had done it.

  6. In other news... https://www.defensenews.com/digital-show-dailies/air-force-association/2020/09/14/the-air-force-launched-a-new-eseries-aircraft-designation-the-internet-had-questions/ Isn't this exactly what the "X" and "Y" MDS prefixes were? Just call it a YT-7 and be done. This seems like pandering to innovation with a few more buzzwords thrown in.

  7. Correct. Annual payment. Should be 2 deposits: $19,500 & $7,800.

  8. I had the same problem last year. When finance loads the bonus, it defaults to $25K/year (roughly $19.5k after taxes). They've got to do something additional to bump it up to $35K. Talk to your finance office to get it fixed Edit to add: the bonus also pays out annually, not monthly.

  9. 19k on a 35k bonus? That’s some hefty tax!

  11. I wonder what people in the 90s said about T-1 training when everyone had only gone through T-38s. The point is, pilot training changes.

  12. Update: retook the test today and ended up with a 98 in the last hour bracket. Boosted my PCSM 11 points to an 86 with no increase in hours. I’d recommend considering a retake for anyone below a 95 in the last bracket. Could be a significant return on a small time investment. Cheers and good luck.

  13. I'd rather do the opposite with the fuel limit. Remove the fuel limit and bring back refueling. That alone would bring back so many more strategy options. That could make the race interesting. Sent from my SM-N975U using Baseops Network mobile app

  14. It worked for me quite well. In Oct 2009, I three-day-opted a non-flying remote to Iraq. I had 22.5 years of service, was a U-2 interview pilot, and evaluator in both the U-2 and T-38. I didn't want to retire. The three-day opt required me to retire 1 May 2010. I was determined to defeat the threat. I was working a number of angles, but nothing was panning out. By early 2010, I hadn't found a solution, but I did figure out that I could request a 6-month extension to my retirement date if my Wing CC wrote a letter asking for it. At the time, the Beale Wing CC was a 1-star. I presented my case that extending me 6 months was in the best interest of the 9th Wing and the Wing CC agreed. AFPC isn't going to tell a 1-star to pound sand: I got the extension. Around that time, AFPC announced the VRRAD. In my first phone call with the VRRAD person at AFPC, I explained that I was still on active duty. "Will you be retired before 31 December 2010?" "Yes, I will be." "Then you are eligible for the VRRAD." Basically, one office in AFPC was requiring me to retire... and another office in AFPC was allowing me to return to active duty as a retiree. I never told the two offices about each other, and figured it was best if they didn't know my plan. My VRRAD got approved. So, on Friday, 29 Oct, I had a short ceremony in the bar and retired. The following week, I came back to Beale, to my old desk, which I obviously didn't vacate... turned in my week-old retiree ID card... went through in-processing with a room full of 18 year olds (at least I got a verbal waiver from the Vice to skip the Right Start briefings). I even submitted a travel voucher for my 33-mile drive from home to Beale AFB for my first day back on active duty. In 2013, after 3 years, the VRRAD was coming to an end... but I asked the Wing CC to write me a letter requesting a 1-year extension. He did, and I got it. Finally... I retired 1 Nov 2014. It was my third set of retirement orders, and the second time I actually retired.

  15. More: “If words could make wishes come true, I’d save every day like a treasure and then, again, I would spend them with you.” -Jim Croce (one of Kage’s favorite songs) Not all know it, but my youngest brother, Stephen, has Down’s syndrome. He is the sweetest kid, we all love him and he loves us. But he and Kage were youngest and second youngest in our family and incredibly close. If possible, Stephen would have joined the Air Force right along Kage so he could be a fighter pilot too! Stevey struggles to communicate, his words come out a bit mumbled. No one can really fully comprehend them, not even mom...but Kage could. Kage was our go-to interpreter. He and Stephen were just bound together, best of friends and kindred spirits. No one is taking this loss harder than him, the poor guy. Kage was his protector all through school and Kage, no one teased Stephen if big bro Kage was around. He was his best friend, always will be. We love you Kage, thanks for showing us what unconditional kindness and love looks like.

  16. Some words from his OH-58D pilot brother: “If you can keep your head, when all about you, Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too... If you can dream and not make dreams your master... If you can meet with triumph and disaster, And treat those two imposters just the same... And lose and start again at your beginnings, And never breath a word about your loss... If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve you long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the will which says to them; “Hold On!” If you can walk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings—nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much. If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And—which is more—YOU’LL BE A MAN, MY SON!” Years ago, Kage mentioned to me he liked this poem, “IF” by Rudyard Kipling. I read it and instantly fell in love with that poem and scribbled it into my green Army notebook. I’ve reread that poem probably 1000 times. Kage embodied the very essence of Kipling’s exhortation. He was ever-composed and brought calm to any situation. His stoic nature drew men to him and he was able to lead without ever losing that common touch. He dreamed and strove diligently to fill the very measure of his creation. Not too long ago, we brothers met up in uniform and honored the passing of our WWII vet grandfather. We were all in tears while we folded the flag over his casket and knelt to deliver it to our sweet grandmother. Soon, Jacob and I will stand over another casket, at another gravesite... Kage will be between us yet again. But this time he won’t help fold the flag, he will be draped in it. We love you Kage. Always. You aren’t just my kid’s hero and my rascally kid brother, you are a MAN, and a beloved son.

  17. What’s your fucking point? This was already posted a while back in reference to mortuary affairs, the original source of the patch. Classic PA mixup but in true leftist media fashion blow it up into some Trump conspiracy.
