  1. SCOTUS has expanded and contracted in the past, but has been at 9 justices since 1869. They absolutely can try to “pack the court” if they have the votes. I think it’s in poor taste, but they’d have every right to do so. Congress can admit PR as well, but historically PR would have to draft a Constitution, submit it to Congress, then they’d have to pass a series of laws creating the state, and that takes time. Enough time that maybe an election cycle changes the party structure to prevent it. Worth noting that Puerto Ricans denied statehood at the ballot box in 1967, 1993, 1998 and 2012. The GAO in 2012 found statehood actually would hurt the island’s economy and set them back as they would have a higher tax burden. DC won’t happen without a long court fight. DC is actually created in the constitution as a federally administered area, not controlled by a state. Since you like facts, here’s why. I’ll even quote the source: “In 1783, a crowd of disbanded Revolutionary War soldiers angry about not having been paid gathered to protest outside the building where the Continental Congress was meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The soldiers blocked the door and initially refused to allow the delegates to leave. Despite requests from the Congress, the Pennsylvania state government declined to call out its militia to deal with the unruly mob, and so Congress was forced to abruptly adjourn to New Jersey.” After that incident, the founders realized having the nation’s seat of power in a state meant the state could control their access and/or deny them protection during the lawmaking process. To maintain impartiality, they decided, it needed to be an area without bias (I think all of this is in Federalist 43). So, the Constitution set out a plan to make that happen. Maryland and Virginia both gave land to create DC. VA ended up taking their contribution (modern day Alexandria) back after a while. So it’s not an open and shut case for DC. It’ll be in court for forever. These racist, fascist founders were real idiots, I tell you.

  2. Shelli was a very good friend of mine and the entire wing and state are hurting. We had a great celebration of Shelli’s life yesterday and was the largest attended funeral I have ever been to. She will be dearly missed and we will continue to honor her memory. We should all live our lives the way Shelli did. She never met a stranger and would help anyone out, anytime. She was one of a kind. The folks in Nashville have done a tremendous job of honoring all 3 members and they have closed in around the families. These type of events really show how powerful and caring the Guard family is when it’s mobilized. But we hate that these are the times when we get old friends together. Make sure you stay in touch and get the retirees together more often. We are all ready for 2020 to be in the rearview mirror. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  4. The current proposals for DC shrink the federal district to the Mall and surrounding federal buildings. Virginia took back it's part of DC prior to the Civil War so there's prescident to make existing parts of the district part of a state.

  6. I think there is definitely room for the pax guys to grab more cargo if they can find a way to fit it on the planes, at least for the long haul stuff. We are leaving dozens of cans in HKG every day and now flights are canceling due to aircraft and crew availability. We’re constantly leaving Asia stuffed to the gills. I haven’t left SZX, HKG, or ICN under 980K in months. From what I understand the freight costs are going through the roof. I would imagine you could fill the belly of a 777 or 787 out of Asia pretty easily right now.

  7. SOS was definitely hit or miss. I loved my class but then I also heard a lot of horror stories. Downtown Montgomery bars have been getting better and better. On that note, the post-COVID digital SOS has got to be a hoot right now...

  9. It actually been pointed out multiple times in this thread. You just don't agree with that view point. Just because you aren't convinced doesn't mean there isn't merit.

  10. If in 2016, Clinton won under the same conditions as Trump, do you know how many people would be saying that the electoral college need to be dismantled...Zero. Everyone knows how we elect the President in this country, campaign accordingly.

  11. Actually liked M2’s choice of Fat Kids Country movie reference better than the super bad sequel attempt of Red Dawn. Horrible. Initially the enemy was Big Red Virus Country wasn’t it, before political pressure changed the paint schemes. Correct me if I’m wrong, it’s been awhile. Maybe Red Dawn III will be Big Red this go around.... too soon...

  13. You read CNN for news? Why bother when you can read the complaint yourself? https://projectsouth.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/OIG-ICDC-Complaint-1.pdf No I don't believe in grand conspiracies, but I do believe that administrations set the tone. The overall lack of oversight and apathy towards detainees creates situations like this where the vulnerable are preyed upon, combined with an attitude of silencing whistleblowers and undermining inspectors keeps people silent who would otherwise come forward. Why should someone in rural wyoming have their vote be worth more than someone in california? I think going to popular vote would not be as dramatic as everyone thinks. Republicans still vote more reliably than any other demographic, and suddenly all the (R)s in blue states can have their vote actually count for something. In the end I think it would still be fairly even and democrats would still be fighting to get people to show up. Ranked choice will ultimately cut out the extreme party nominations and you will have better candidates across the board. People will be free to vote for the most far-fetched candidates and not feel like they are throwing their votes away...and at the end of the day the candidate who wins will have been voted into power by the majority of constituents.
