I'm a fan of Dan Crenshaw, but I understand there are many who aren't. I also like Tammy Duckworth, even though I don't share her political views. I absolutely think she fights for what she believes in and she's there to make the country better. We just have different ideas of how to do it.3 points

Congresswoman Duckworth lighting up that dude claiming to be a veteran is one of my fav government hearing moments.2 points

Which is standard political fare, though I'd love to hear the reasons why. To me he seems like the first in the new generation of intellectual conservatives who actually has a shot at becoming the president. Obviously the eye patch and amazing military story are a huge part of that, but also he is taking a considered attempt at being more than just a talking head. His podcast is quite interesting, as is Ted Cruz's. He seems like one of the few clean politicians on either side right now, I hope he stays that way. I think he would win in a landslide.2 points

I completely agree that both of these examples seem to genuinely want the best for the country. Also, they both have positions and ideas I like and positions and ideas I disagree with. But unlike most of the people up there, I don't doubt they have the betterment of the country as their motivation. Sent from my SM-N975U using Baseops Network mobile app2 points

I don't think so. Rumor is the rich kid (marginal driver with anger issues) and Mick Schumacher will get the seats, but who knows. As for Stroll, I think he's a little bit better than the typical pay driver. He's not top tier, but he's far from the worst on the grid. Edit: Of course I say this and then he races like it's his first ever grand prix. Sent from my SM-N975U using Baseops Network mobile app2 points

The "I'll have you banned" part was my favorite BTW. Jaysus..... big talk for someone who's been on the board less than 2 years.2 points

This is an example of why I have a problem with the LGBTQA+ movement. When DOMA was challenged in 2013/2015, we were told that this was about two loving monogamous people just trying to have equal rights under the law IRT marriage. I have said all along that this was not the case. This is not, never was and never will be simply about "rights". It is about taking a wrecking ball to our society and its views on the traditional family and traditional norms. We are seeing it play out every day now with the war on pronouns, the transgender movement, etc. And this all comes after DOMA was ruled unconstitutional. This is why I have a huge issue with the left. The left is never honest about what they are REALLY after. You see it in every movement on the left whether it is gay rights, the climate, gun control, economics, health care, etc. All that to say that I do not personally have a problem with gay people. Our 19 year old daughter is in the process of coming to terms with her sexuality. My wife and I have known since she was probably 10 that this was going to be something she would struggle with. As Christians, we have struggled with navigating this mightily. We support her and love more than anything else in life. Our message and guidance to her has been to not let her sexuality define her. More than anything, I want her to be a honest, productive, educated, hard working member of society who loves who she loves. We don't support things like rainbow stickers, flags or shirts that promote sexuality one way or the other. And she gets it. She doesn't throw anything related to her sexuality around. She just is who she is.2 points

It's been a full day so no spoilers by now: Very interesting start to the race - Bottas took and should've been able to keep the lead. Hamilton just is better, managed his car and tires better. I wish it wasn't that way, but Bottas' had multiple opportunities today and in the past and isn't getting it done at the same level as Hamilton. Sainz out front was spectacular but short-lived unfortunately. The Kimi run was also pretty spectacular, I agree. Would've loved to see him stay up front in the points. A very good drive by Gasly. Not so much for Albon, who is not helping himself keep a job. That is entirely in his hands (sts) and he's not getting it done either. On him... Then the race turned back into cars on parade. Well done to Hamilton for the win and congratulations on reaching the record. Hard to argue with stats.1 point

Yes. He goes by Congressman here. He hasn’t posted much here lately though I can’t say I blame him. Any moderately intelligent person in public life probably doesn’t need to be prolifically posting on message boards. Associating with the p baseops.net crowd (or just military aircrew in general) too much is likely seen as a bit crass in a lot of Washington circles. Regardless, even though I don’t share a whole lot of views with him, I’m glad he’s there, along with the likes of Duckworth and Crenshaw. We need more like them.1 point

If you said “two airmen married to get out of the dorms” I would understand. But do people really think people get married purely for tax benefits? Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app1 point

Which is a worse scenario? - Gay couple loves each other, gets married for the intent of sharing a life together (inclusive of intrinsic benefits of said union) - Straight individuals married purely for the sake of the benefits provided (tax, citizenship, health care, etc.) It seems a bit hypocritical for society to attack one of these demographics but ignores the other. It also shouldn’t be at the forefront of political debate with so many real issues facing the world, but our society has the attention span of a peanut, so there’s that Just one open-minded conservative’s opinion...1 point

You mean the dude that occasionally posts here? Or whom are you referring to? This is always an interesting topic to me because I don’t think that simply being a veteran qualifies you to be a governmental leader.1 point
-
No, it's not. It has very little transferable skill to combat effectiveness. It doesn't mean we shouldn't continue doing them though. We live in the greatest country in the world where you can have 50,000-100,000+ screaming fans cheering for 'merica! It's good publicity, it's something different for the pilots to do and is usually a morale booster for the guys involved. I've never walked away from a fly by thinking, man those were some good lessons learned. Are demo's good training? How about the thunderbirds or the AF band (if that's still a thing). There are plenty of advantages to projecting airpower to the masses, training doesn't need to be a requirement.1 point

Our very own Congressman perhaps? AFAIK he was a stand up dude when he was in and seems to be acquitting himself in congress fairly well so far.1 point

So if that's the same way his constituencies wanted him to vote at that time...still "pushing his religious values?" Please note, I'm not talking about now. I really hate this looking back, 10, 20, 100 years to denigrate what people believed/did that was the norm at the time. As someone else said, a lot has changed for the better. I have friends and family members that can now enjoy family life similar to mine. However, I am waiting for the "LGBTQA+ community" to start coming after Churches for denying them the access to use the facilities. The lawsuits will start at some point and while protections are currently present...they may fall in the future as more and more citizens find less value in existential belief.1 point

This must be like when you guys call-out someone for overstating bullshit about flying. I'll paraphrase - "Kubernetes is cool, it'll auto-magically build, kill and rebuild applications and infrastructure that are 'more secure.'"1 point

It is perfectly clear what it does, it's all right there in the article: "Its container-centric management environment orchestrates computing, networking, and storage on behalf of user workloads and allows for the deployment of complex microservice based applications with complete automation." To me, this sounds like it was written by the greatest OPR-bullshit artist of all time to describe the mail sorting room at Initech.1 point

ATCer here. I'm a Tower guy, so explaining what Center/Tracon dudes do can be difficult because 1) it wasn't me and 2) the equipment and rules they use are very different (even from each other). As absurd as this guy with the phone seems, keep in context the terrain surrounding the area, and the locations of radar antennae and radio transmitter/receivers - for Centers they're optimized for talking to people in the flight levels above 10k, and around terrain (which there's lots of in that area) you lose line-of-sight and radar contact/comms very quickly below those altitudes. Assuming the aircraft is semi-controllable, which it obviously was, and someone on a multi-crew aircraft is able to maintain communications, passing along a phone number while you can is a prudent move and it wasn't just so the mishap aircraft could cancel IFR on the ground. There's lots of info needed and it's likely that was rapidly going to be the only way to communicate with the Center, who can pass around useful stuff like Lat/Longs and other crucial info for emergency response and not just rely on eyewitnesses calling 911. Also do J-models have integrated Sat Phones, like the C-17's Aero-I? Also where this occurred is just beyond the eastern fringes of the servicing approach, SoCal Tracon (SCT), and at the lower levels of Los Angeles Center (ZLA). SCT in the area is really set up to work the Palm Springs TRSA and to feed/sequence the satellite airports in the area (Bermuda Dunes and Thermal), and there's a basic ATC procedure of not forcing radio frequency changes on emergency aircraft unless better handling will result. Someone in an emergency descent from the low twenties or teens (not sure where MC-130s do their A/R) isn't a whole lot of time to work with beyond an emergency point out as you blow through someone else's airspace. Finally the LiveATC tape was edited so not all the comms are there. Anyway consider the limfacs, don't just look at it as quibbling. Very very happy there was such a happy end result. America!1 point

Um, yes? Though I'm not sure you have firm grasp of what "projecting" is. Should I consider it an honor to be trolled by a king troll? Why am I hearing mini-boss level music in the background?1 point

So like I thought...I'm very close to the bottom. But...better to be the last Lt Col promoted than the first Maj to be passed over. I'll take what I can get.1 point

Excellent work on the crew's part and really glad all involved came through ok. I hope that ATC controller gets an opportunity to tour the crash site, review the tapes, and meet the crew, so he can expand his SA bubble a bit.1 point
