We have been eating outside, getting to go, and tipping generously because not everyone has the same pay stability that the military provides. I feel like we should help keep our local economies going. Except clovis, let that place burn.

Phrasing

We ordered Christmas dinner from a local place to throw a little business their way with the side benefit of having more time since an entire day wasn’t thrown away with cooking. The root of the issue lies in what people interpret "treated equally" to mean. The philosophers upon whose tenets western society has been built interpret that to mean "all individuals treated equally before the law". Unfortunately that is not a definition that is shared across the political and philosophical spectrum, and that is the crux.

I loved being stationed in Rapid City. Fantastic place to raise children. It's like a village from a Hallmark movie. Winters are brutally cold though. But the scenery is 10/10.

We did the same. We try and do takeout as often as we can & also tip generously. Looking forward to a time, hopefully sooner rather than later, when vaccines and other measures such as improved treatments allow our town/state/nation/world to go back to something approaching normal. I sincerely hope to see all of the proprietors of small businesses and restaurants back on their feet soon & will support them in any way I can.

Assholes are everywhere, but they don’t define 90% of us. The unfortunate part is so many of the 90% have forgotten that and have determined if you don’t see something exactly their way/challenge their opinion (and by extension their political team), you are the enemy and “on the other side.” It’s amazing how incredibly narrow minded people get when they fall to this and aggressively defend/argue their side’s talking points while completely ignoring any counterpoint presented. That’s not to say we should all have to agree to be “a good society,” but the vitriol hate “for the other side” is crushing us, and we’re all letting it every time we do as the media/some dipshit congressman says, or in conversation completely ignore someone’s words because we’re too busy developing our counterattack to actually listen to/read what someone else has presented. My hope for this next year is the people wake up and realize we don’t have to let ourselves play this bullshit game anymore. They actually have no power over us if we just say, “yeah go fuck yourself” and be cool with each other, even when we disagree.

Agreed. 10/10, would live in Rapid City again. Awesome downtown, plenty to do, but also rural enough to be away from your neighbors if that's what you want. So many trails and so much public land that you can hike, bike, or hunt in a different area every weekend and still not hit everything by the end of an assignment. Winters were cold, but usually only for a few days at a time. Especially if you live in Rapid City proper, where you're sheltered from the worst of it by the Black Hills...the base was miserable for the occasional 0300 show times in winter.

Google/YouTube...seriously. Guess it depends specifically on what you’re after, as “homesteading” is a very broad term that can mean a lot of things to different people.

Yes, I was aware of his numerous hours. Other than that, I know nothing about this pilot. And as such, I'm unable to judge his "experience" level (hence my "correction" to your quote). That will have to be explained by those that flew with him. My opinion is that "hours" tells me very little as to how hard the pilot worked to become better after each flight. I know pilots with 500 hours in type that are superior to others with 1500 hours in the same type. It goes back to what I stated previously: do you have 5000 hours? Or 1 hour, 5000 times? I'm speaking in generalities and not about this pilot or incident, since the accident report doesn't really shed enough light on how much quality proficiency training he had accomplished in the previous year. A good example I know of is Lee Lauderback. Lee has logged more P-51 time than anyone in history. And Lee works very hard at his craft.... which is why most P-51 pilots go to Lee to learn the Mustang, or go through a recurrency course. I'm told he makes you a much better pilot after every 1.0 hours in the aircraft. The fact that he's also a great guy is just icing on the cake.
