Go fuck yourself. I have no underlying health concerns and it nearly KILLED me and I can assure you prior I was not already prone to dying. Idiots like you make me want to vomit...truly a clueless fuckwit. Two of my immediate family members were thankfully released from the hospital yesterday after receiving all possible therapeutics and one being given last rites. I am all for keeping things open and using mitigation measures to protect those at great risk but saying this is a nuisance is fucking ignorant. There is a lot we simply don't understand especially as it related to certain blood types.5 points

Listening to the impeachment debates going on right now. Absolutely disgusted by 2 things: the Trump apology tour by republicans, and the zero responsibility accepted by anyone on either side of the aisle. Everything is the fault of the other guy, none of anyone's actions, vitriol and rhetoric caused any of the current problems. It was all caused by the other guys... Time for every single one of them to be voted out. Zero incumbents should be voted back in for the next few elections!2 points

His CC...he had PCS orders and once they were cancelled his CC notified him today. So that could be the reason why. However, I heard rumors of results being sent out this week through a good source. The nerves are acting up now. 🤣2 points

Ya know I wrote this whole angry reply but I deleted it. Here's what I think: A) I'm glad COVID hasn't affected your family much; count yourself as lucky. B) If you want to end the pandemic-mitigation measures, I hope you're getting vaccinated ASAP and encouraging everyone you know to do the same. I sure am! C) I would tread a bit more lightly re: "Well I don't know anyone who died..." because many, many of us do and it's kind of a dick move to base your entire world view on the extremely narrow lense of your own personal experiences.2 points

I asked someone at AFPC and they told me that they have to brief the AFPC/CC at the end of January for his final blessing before any official results are published to either commanders or publicly. Mid February is still the best he could give me in terms of results. This individual also mentioned that due to the delays at UPT the original quota of 75 PIlots for 2021 was severely chopped, but he didn't want to give out numbers due to things being able to change for the better or for the worst at any moment before release. That is the most recent information I've gathered from a reliable source.1 point

🤣 careful saying that on here. Some ardent believers in the hoaxness of Russia and Trump.1 point

This may have been a special case being that his orders got cancelled his commander is required to tell him why. However, if he knows then my thought is there has to be some form of results out there. I poked around a lot today and didn’t get any info.1 point

This one does. I thought Ajit Pai was a total piece of shit. His is a prototypical example of the revolving door of lobbyists becoming a governing authority and then returning to industry after having had their impact. The basic issue with not regulating it as common infrastructure is that the government has granted monopolies to ISPs and other utility companies to use public easements and rights-of-way to install their infrastructure. Not everyone has access to that. Not everyone is allowed to have access to that. So there are companies that have been given special privilege to conduct their business, and hence, should be regulated appropriately. That means Net Neutrality.1 point

It's because many of her positions are "Russia adjacent." I think she has some good qualities, but her foreign policy views are, frankly, extremely naive. Reference the buzz term she leans on during many of her interviews: "regime change wars." She dresses up her opinion with things that make sense (i.e. "military's mission is defense of America," etc.), but it is not at all coupled with the realpolitik of our modern world where smaller nations states fall into the orbits of larger ones. She has some valid points, but her fundamental conclusion and orientation is wrong. I would agree with her in terms of we don't need to police the world, and I also think it's defensible to accept a few dictators in the world. IMO, our whole problem with AFG/IRQ (part 2), was how we fought. We went in full-bore when we should have gone in with extremely and narrowly tailored objectives; instead we went in trying to "take the cake."1 point

Well, whatever happens in the wake of the Capitol riots, you can rest assure the DC types will handle it in such a way as to create the worse possible outcome for everyone, especially the rest of the country who wasn't there taking part... They seem to excel at that.1 point

This. I've lost two friends so far from it, both pilots with no underlying health concerns. One of them was in his early 40s and left behind a wife and two teenage daughters. My uncle somehow survived the ICU last week and is recovering. This is after my aunt came home and found him sitting in a chair with blue lips and she could hear him breathe before seeing him. Glad you're here!1 point

A press conference (or really any official communication) is likely heavily filtered by the White House administration staff, likely with legal and policy reviews by administration action officers to ensure they are on message (and consistent with what they've been messaging), and to ensure whoever is delivering the message (whether it's the President or someone else) is prepared for anticipated questions or reactions, especially if they are taking questions. Twitter, as Trump used it, appeared to be very unfiltered. Maybe it was a well thought out communication, maybe it was just a knee jerk reaction or spur of the moment thought that popped into his mind. Hard to tell it apart, which made it confusing for many people used to seeing official statements (or you could say legacy types of communications).1 point

I think people have mistaken "Let's not get into yet another war like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya with Syria" for a defense of Assad. She's said repeatedly he's a bad person and we need to bring diplomatic pressure to bear. Her stance is, and always has been, we have no national interest in changing the regime in Syria just because Assad is a bad person.1 point

It's not so much that they are being silenced as much as they are being filtered. They are still allowed to express their views as long as they aren't too far right and fit with in acceptable tolerances of their left leaning censors. Meanwhile, the left can be as grotesquely radical as much as they want with little consequence. Lets not pretend that social media wasn't used to coordinate many of the riots this summer.1 point

The left is just wrong, I just like pointing it out. I've got no argument with someone from the left saying the same about the right. As far as making arguments to counter everyone on this forum not true. Right now I'll admit I'm running contrary to several active posters as they are to me, if we just come here to agree to each others views and agree with what others say then its not particularly interesting or worthy of anyone's attention. I'll make an argument every time against any point, thought, position or idea I don't agree with or like in a free forum where open discussion is to be had. I'm not for double standards, I just think all should be held to a basic standard and some held to the basic and higher standards. Trump regularly falls short of the higher standards and is reprimanded accordingly, it just pisses me off to see others at or near his level not held to that higher standard. Cross may be at some lower level but still should not be allowed to skate on that, just my two cents. I'll just agree to disagree with you and if I remind you of your teenagers they must be smart as hell.1 point

True that. It’s not going to do jack. Moderate dems still have to vote with full up communists. Just like moderate reps will still have to vote with full up Nazis. Ranked choice voting and a transition towards a parliamentary system is the solution. But that would require the nation to admit that the two party system (which is great for those currently in power) isn’t working.1 point

Twitter isn't an ISP... Comcast, Verizon, or AT&T blocking or prioritizing packets of data based on where they come from or are going to would violate the net neutrality concept. Net neutrality prevents the ISP from cutting deals to favor certain businesses or ideals/opinions. And this is necessary because they are common carriers for information: ISPs are *infrastructure*. Apple and Google both are well within their rights to remove any app they believe violates their terms of service (or for any reason): it's their walled garden, and the blocking of an app on an app store has no bearing on the transmission of data. This is just the free market. People can still get unapproved or blocked apps, but have to do it via a third party (side loading). This is not a violation of net neutrality principles. Sure, it's harder to get a blocked app because you don't have the benefit of using the default app store, but the app developer can still publish and distribute their app through other means, and net neutrality allows the same priority of the data packets regardless of the source, whether it's Apple's app store server or a private, third party server. Twitter, Facebook, app stores, websites, etc aren't common carriers or infrastructure. Being blocked on Twitter does not limit your free speech. You can switch to another service, or build/host your own website/discussion forum to get your message out in the internet. And with net neutrality, packets of data moving to/from your website have the same priority as packets of data from Twitter, and prevents the ISP from blocking out your small service in favor of business interests (like faster connections to business partners). Net neutrality has zero to do with content or opinions, or ensuring "balanced" viewpoints are represented online, and everything to do with ensuring infrastructure is shared equally and no one gets priority access to the infrastructure. Separately, section 230 protects online *platforms* (such as twitter or Facebook) from being considered a *publisher*. This distinction prevents twitter/Facebook/discussion boards/etc from having to moderate all content before it is published on their platform. Essentially, without section 230, it breaks how we conduct discussions on the internet. Imagine if the mods on BaseOps had to approve ("publish") every post, because the forum owner was legally liable for any content that appeared on the forum instead of the individual poster. Removing section 230 would completely stifle any discussion, slows down the internet, and would break the fundamental model of social media. But that's not to say that moderation or enforcement of rules can't happen, just that someone can't sue the platform based on a opinion posted by an individual on that platform. It's just like phone companies (infrastructure) not being liable for the text messages you send, but for internet communication. Section 230 is good, it protects internet businesses from frivolous lawsuits because they have deeper pockets than an individual. For example, it prevents Democrats from suing Twitter for allowing Trump to tweet anything they disagree with. Got an issue with what is said on the platform by an individual? Take it up with the individual.1 point

Received some information from the UFT governing office: Pilot slots slightly lower than previous years but not affected nearly as badly as they thought it would be. Looking to add more slots to URT, UCT and ABM so they still haven't ironed out the list. Conducting career releases now and looking at mid Feb release tentatively.1 point

That sounds about right. I am very good friends with the guy who was the class leader of the whole thing. He was a prior WSO who upgraded to instructor as a Lt in the F-15E and whooped ass in the portions of UPT he completed. He was on his way to a DG when the whole thing came down, and is the first to admit that he could have handled the whole situation better. When the hammer was falling, he went back to his bros in the F-15E community to write letters of recommendation to prevent him getting a dishonorable discharge, and it should come as no surprise that we all come forth. In the end he received an honorable discharged and is now working for Boeing making three times as much as he would be in the AF. Another retarded decision made by the Air Force - a great fighter pilot was lost because some idiot FGO/GO was trying to prove a point. On the other hand, the wife of the IP in question actually tried to petition this board for help. She started a thread titled something to the effect of "Help the students at Columbus" that said she wanted to start a petition for BOps members to sign which (in her mind) would clear the students (but mostly her husband) of all charges. When I tried to take the discussion off-line to tell her to not disclose details of the incident, she took offense. I don't think she knew I was friends with the class commander (who had provided many details of her husband's "issues") and she threw down the gauntlet with an "I'll contact your commander" speech. So I found her .mil e-mail (she was a SVS civilian) and basically told her my commanders name and number, as well as my own, and told her that she'd have an ugly road if she wanted to pursue the matter. Funny....I never heard from her again. This is a sad sad example of how the Air Force distributes justice with an uncalibrated scale.1 point

If I say something, I mean it. In person or on here. I agree that in the first month, where we knew little about the virus those measures were prudent. However, like you mentioned, it is shameful that in places like California the government is still utilizing the same actions despite knowing significantly more about the virus. Why is that?0 points
