Not this specifically... but I've never walked away from a conversation about the Academy thinking, "man, I sure wish I'd gone there".7 points

The Air Force does not value you as an individual...it is a numbers game and they just proved it. In two years when they are screaming about retention point back to this ACP offering while telling them to suck an egg.3 points

$100k/yr (tax free) with 1 year min signing time for maintenance officers, finance specialists and CE. $69k/yr for WSOs w/ 20 year minimum signing time taxed at 50%. For any 11-X AFSCs, no bonus because the retention is fixed.3 points

As I haven't said it a minute, and now I have even more perspective after separating. DO NOT TAKE THE BONUS AFRC and ANG have bonuses too, and they aren't underhanded or insulting.2 points

An Illinois county that he doesn't even represent voted to censure him. Which shows how seriously we should take county party organizations. Maybe the 4H club two counties over will censure him next! It's refreshing to see a true conservative refuse to go down with the ship. He also won his district by a substantially higher margin that did Trump, so his constituency is clearly well represented. I hope he's the future of the party. If not, God help us all.2 points

Extremism 'Has Reared Its Head' in Air Force Special Operations, General Says I am a few years removed from service but in my 26 years I never encountered a single case. Obviously this type of thinking has no business in the military, just wondering if anyone has actually seen anything like this or is it yet another over-reaction witch hunt?1 point

This just circles back to the Wills, "win one for the gipper," FB post. Not hard to spot when you're being given the "you're not going to like this" speech....seen it plenty of times now. Dude would have gotten more respect if he'd have just said, sorry gents (can you still say that), you're not going to like the bonus, but we're stuck with what congress is giving us because they think the problem is fixed. Word! Mongo just pawn in game of life! BTW, your post just made me think of the defensive egg post. Talk about a flashback!1 point

I'm as bearish as they come when it comes to finances, but even I acknowledge the airlines will resume dod-retention germane hiring in way less than five fiscal years. I'm not saying blue is pulling anything surprising by taking advantage of covid to cajole people into a de facto 20 year ADSC, but I think they overplayed their hand by telegraphing for posterity what we all privately knew: the DOD does NOT care about experience retention, get it through your thick Stockholm syndrome skulls already. Any rhetoric to the contrary from senior leadership is rank gaslighting at this point.1 point

Sadly this theory clashes with tenure... Uber left-wing professors (who outnumber uber-right wing professors by 100:1), now use college to indoctrinate rather than educate, which is a horrible waste of key time in a young persons life where they can think critically and develop their own viewpoints. I spent some time at a place that is supposed to be the apex of our collegiate educational system, Harvard. Instead of a great period of enlightenment it was daily hand-to-hand combat defending a viewpoint that dared to drift from extreme liberalism. It is no shock our political system has become so dysfunctional, as every new administration brings in the Ivy League big brains to solve problems...further entrenching the extremist ideas. Until we find ourselves back in another situation deemed national survival it will be difficult to employ a Clausewitzian total war approach to service to the nation. IMHO a better approach in current times would be to highlight the personal benefit and growth that comes with service to our country. Whether is be military service, time in the Peace Corps, the National Health Service, working on a Native American Reservation...etc, there is tremendous opportunity to expand your mind and make a difference.1 point

Not every pilot needs ACE time if you go with the idea of young guys needing to gain valuable experience. So, say all the LTs and maybe through first year captains for fighter guys (first 1000 hours of AF flight time). Back in the SAC days it was until you upgraded to AC in the Tanker or Buff. So maybe for fighter bubbas once you get upgraded to 2 ship lead (or whatever experience level you guys see the value in this program), you roll out of ACE. For the heavy guys you get to fly ACE until you upgrade to AC/left seat. If you wanted to save money each base could have three or four guys who might have been FAIPs or at least aren't your patches and have an interest in being IP qualed in the T-6 as well as qualified in the primary aircraft. They fly occasionally with the guys to check them out but most of the flights could just be the Cos and wingman who need the time. Most of my ACE time wasn't with an IP. We had 3 or 4 rides to get checked out and then once a year for a form 8 with the ACE IPs, the rest of the time was just us Cos. Though I did have to take my SQ CC up for a couple of sight seeing tours of Montreal.1 point

Same here. And my dad had that talk with me. People act like the police talk is only a thing for minorities, but the same shit applies to everyone. Your police interactions will go far more smoothly if you at a minimum: mind your p's and q's and don't try to fight them. The number one way to reduce perceived police violence issues in this country is to teach people to not descend into hysterics the second you have to interact with a cop. And unfortunately exactly the opposite is being taught.1 point

Try having to teach the B-coursers stuff they should have learned at IFF all for the bargain price if $50k per flight hour. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app1 point

Valid critiques on a new / resurrected ACE program, my suggestion would be contracted service like the Aggressor Contract(s). Contract instructors for init qual/cert and the mx/logistics then off to the races... COGO versus GOGO asset. Way easier to roll out or roll up. Gov would just provide facilities on base(s). In justification for the program, a syllabus would likely have to be developed to satisfy the Bobs but flexibility with student directed missions / squadron directed DLOs could be had methinks. Other COA could be Pilot Enrichment TDYs or PETs... Upset Attitude Training, Tailwheel, Backcountry / STOL, Sea plane, Aerobatic refresher, etc... If your MDS/assignment does not offer an ACE program, you get 1 PET per year and 8 in your career, not required to take one but encouraged. Pilot finds a program, proposes to the commander if it meets some basic criteria and boom go get some learnin' The money is probably not insurmountable, there's the low hanging fruit of cutting in-residence PME for Company Grade O's but there's other monies to be had... just a WAG but figure $135 mil for both programs (COGO Companion Aircraft and PETs). The problem is the culture of the Air Force, I think the GOs and Cols think of ideas like this as admitting failure and won't entertain anything of the sort.1 point

I hope that they do implement SCODs for officers. I think it would cut down on the quarterly/semi annual rack and stacks that consume a lot of time and condense them down. But then again what do I know.1 point

Can't; they're already collecting $10k/mo in retirement pay while sitting on the boards of Raytheon/Boeing/Lockheed for $1 million per year. You know, when they're not on the lecture circuit making $100,000 for talking to organizations about "leadership" and "efficiency."1 point

By that logic we can’t fly 13 star American flags because kaepernick and Nike say it’s a symbol of extremism and hate. It seems today it doesn’t matter what you intend with your symbol, words, or opinions, only what the person most offended by them thinks you meant. And I’m not advocating flying confederate flags everywhere.1 point

Totally agree! I’m just quoting what people have told me on why they fly the flag. I’ve actually seen rebel flags with “It’s Not Hate, it’s Heritage” and “Southern Pride” and “Sons of the Confederacy” and probably the most stupid, “The South Will Rise Again” stitched on to them. The only flag I fly and have ever flown is the flag of the United States!1 point
-
That’s the thing, I have seen the rebel flag flown by both black and white people. Is it still considered a symbol of hate if a rebel flag is on a the truck being driven by a black person? I had a black guy in my squadron from TX who drove a big ass F-250 with 6” lift, 35” tires and the back window was covered by a rebel flag sticker. Still considered a hate symbol? Again, I’m not defending it and I probably am being dismissive about it because it doesn’t affect me like it does some people. I never grew up around it and it really wasn’t until I was stationed in MS that it became so prominent around me. I don’t see it anywhere on my base and I really don’t see it (minus a handful of people) in the town I live in. also, why can’t you ban it? I would think, especially in today’s day and age, that a wing/base CC has the right to ban symbols like the rebel flag from being shown on their base. If the DoD says that the rebel flag is a hate symbol, then ban it! Me personally, I would rather let the people fly the flag and plaster it all over their vehicles because then I know who they are and where they’re possible coming from. That’s just me though.1 point

Interesting note on that recent story about the Marine mentioned sharing naked photos within the unit. She makes a tiktok where she’s crying and talking about facing the accuser and all that. Turns out, the pictures he shared were from this girls only fans account (aka she made them herself for sale if you subscribe to her site for $4.99). The real part that pissed her off was all of this “exclusive content” was showed without people paying. What a world!1 point

The ink on the revised, idiotic new UPT syllabus isn’t even dry and now CSAF says, “We may have pushed...a little too far.” Geebus, ya think? If only hundreds of IPs told them that ahead of time. For years.1 point

This series of articles highlights the "Animal Farm" that the NYT - our supposed paper of record - has become: https://nypost.com/2021/02/10/ny-times-defends-1619-project-creator-after-she-doxxed-reporter/ https://nypost.com/2021/02/11/read-the-column-the-new-york-times-didnt-want-you-read/ https://nypost.com/2021/02/10/the-woke-mob-now-utterly-rules-the-new-york-times/ https://nypost.com/2021/02/09/war-erupts-at-ny-times-after-donald-mcneil-ousted-over-n-word-controversy/ In short, Nikole Hannah-Jones doxxed a journalist because she didn't like his questions about her previous (perhaps appropriate) use of the N-word. The questioning led her to delete her entire twitter history and post some nonsense about how she "routinely" deletes previous posts. I'm not personally surprised by this, because she is ultimately one garbage person, but the disparate response by the NYT decision makers is "problematic" to say the least. At the same time, another NYT journalist, Donald McNeil, has been summarily ousted because of his use of the N-word. If you read into that situation's background, you'll find it wasn't used maliciously. What's more, is that the NYT scuttled a critical, though valid, piece of its own handling of that situation - which drew attention to how context matters and is being fully disregarded in this case. I can't say I'm actually surprised by them not self-publishing an article airing their own dirty laundry, but it is important for us to understand the filter that anything the NYT publishes has passed through. Even more important, though, is that instances like this highlight the growing institutional acceptance and normalization of mob rule, arbitrary rule-making, and unprincipled application. Rules for thee, not for me. This is the type of power "1984" warns us about.1 point

You sure? Pretty sure you spent most of that post showing reasons he should die, and 1 line saying he shouldn't. I've watched the whole video before it was removed from everywhere. I disagree with your assessment of "truth."1 point

Just an fyi to hopefully help speed things along, you're recruiter is most certainly able to send up your package to NGB to get OTS dates, without your FC1 being done or approved. You'll have to send the FC1 up after its approved, but if they say they need the FC1 to get your officer selection package up and approved, that's not true. Trust me.1 point

Cleared hot! I got a re-test and passed my FC1 yesterday without a waiver and without glasses. I wouldnt have had the opportunity to do this again without the help and advice of folks on this forum, the docs at Wright Pat, and the flight docs at the 104th FW, 143rd AW, and 56th MDG. My situation was a little strange, but if anyone has any questions or runs into this issue please DM me and reach out!1 point

Don't know him personally or professionally as I'm not in his district, hope he's an ok guy in person and will accept those testimonials about the many things he's done for service folk. Appreciate that. However, his constituents, the ones he's elected to represent seem to disagree with his stance rather strongly to include at least one county, I believe two but stand to be corrected, GOP committee censuring him for his vote to impeach Trump. The one county I am aware of is LaSalle County which is part of his district. Other county so censuring Iroquois which is also within this district. His choice to roll the dice to see if they either forget by next election or whether his district gets dissolved by the Illinois legislature as is likely if the state loses a congressional seat due to redistricting. I do take issue with his vote to strip the bat-sh1t crazy Georgia congresswoman of all her committee assignments. He helped deny her constituents their effective representation that they knowingly elected her to. As always in politics, IMO, it's a case of follow the money. His just started anti-Trump PAC combined with his many appearances on liberal media looks like a way to set up a comfy post-congressional lifestyle, either via K Street and/or TV gigs. Don't blame him a bit but it just strikes me as the B-model Scarborough. edited to add the specific counties which is in the district being discussed.-1 points
