Probably because he's stupid. You don't have to wait for him to stutter to come to that conclusion. The guy has been a joke for 40 years. Now we're supposed to pretend he's not? He's pants-on-head stupid, and pretending otherwise is just as absurd as the Trumpists denying that Trump was a habitual liar.5 points

To be fair, there is a pretty massive difference between saying you are going to boycott a product, service, person, sports league, etc.. (even if some of the reasoning seems silly or ridiculous) by not buying or partaking in what they are offering; vs a concerted effort to smear and ultimately remove and destroy a person, business, idea, symbol, tv show, book, movie, etc... Example: I personally do not watch a second of NBA basketball and have not for years now. My reasoning is based not only on the ridiculous woke, political, and pro Chinese crap the league has spouted in recent history, but also the fact that it’s absolutely garbage basketball. However, my choice to not watch is my own and I don’t give a shit if someone else absolutely loves to watch the NBA, that’s their choice and they have every right to do so. By choosing not to watch, I don’t have to see the stuff I don’t like (imagine that!) and if enough people ultimately start to feel like I do, it will hurt the league in its pocketbook and they may actually make a change that adjusts to the demands of their customers. Which btw, actually seems to have happened with the NBA when their ratings went in the absolute toilet last year, and magically this year they’ve reduced a large amount of their political messaging. Maybe the next move they can make is raising the shot clock to 30 seconds and making them play defense. I digress... What you won’t see me doing is throwing a temper tantrum through social media and interviews on CNN about how the NBA doesn’t prescribe to my cultural norms and needs to be removed from the face of the earth, damn the rest of you!3 points

"I want to thank...I keep calling him general...that, that...that guy that runs that outfit over there..." You mean your Secretary of Defense? I want this next four years to be good and hard so much. But at least no mean tweets. Lots more kids in cages, lots more executive orders, lots more money going to Iran. But at least no more mean tweets.2 points

Saw this sorta thing on MCAS Miramar, some dude (civilian) parked in the Sergeant Major spot. Said base SgtMaj decides to take his license plate and leave a note because dude wasn’t ‘authorized’ that spot. Same SgtMaj was singing a different tune when this dude got security forces to go visit the SgtMaj with an arrest warrant for stealing a license plate.2 points

If COVID is so deadly, shouldn't we be giving the vaccine to people that will actually die if they get the virus instead of a group of people that are all generally health and generally cannot have co-morbidity issues? It seems to me that it is extremely irresponsible, to the point of being borderline criminal, to give the vaccine to the military before the general population.2 points

On base this morning and realized when I parked the only mask I had in my car was a purple surgical mask and not one of the “approved” mask colors. Joked to myself that I’ll probably pass the wrong person and get lectured. Literally the FIRST person I pass is a Chief who stops me, “Sir, just so you know, a purple mask is not authorized.” “Yeah, understood but it was the only one I had in my car and I’ve gotta get to my desk.” He probably sensed my give a crap level was zero and followed it up with a “when you are in uniform Sir you’ve got to meet all of the standards.” Ah yes, you mean this stupid piece of cloth that was never ever meant to be a part of a military uniform and is actually allegedly being worn for the safety of me and you? Unfortunately I don’t have the balls to say that last part. Just moved on with a “copy” and walked away. Just for shits I looked up the approved mask colors again, and literally the most common surgical mask color you can find (the light blue) is not approved for use in uniform.1 point

But does big AF see a loss in productivity? In other words, are we losing combat sorties directly due to pilots having to do additional queep? Or did flying hours get pushed down because of other AF priorities? Remember, training is overhead-it's necessary, but "not productive." Just like having extra finance airmen to handle travel vouchers is overhead, doing the vouchers is necessary, but isn't productive to the mission. Complaining about productivity will get no traction for change, until combat sorties aren't being generated at a significant rate. That's not to say there aren't problems that desperately needs to be fixed. The challenge is working on essentially a fixed budget while still executing the mission. Want to modernize and buy new toys? The AF has to find that money-it's essentially a zero sum game for the budget, and there generally is no relaxation of mission requirements while the AF tries to modernize. So trades get made between manpower, O&M, and new/old equipment in order to buy new stuff. Generally can't divest aircraft and their associated logistics and manpower tail easily, so the cuts generally get put on support personnel (like finance), or overall reductions (like manipulating crew ratios to keep "acceptable" levels of manning). Unfortunately, that means piling up duties on those who remain in order to buy new stuff. However, the AF can't kick the can down the road forever though; cuts in training usually mean poorer performance in the future (especially when it results in lower quality instructors in the future, which perpetuates the problem), and "too many" additional duties (which can be hard to quantify) create disincentives for people to stay in. This shows itself in potentially higher mishap rates and poor retention, and ultimately creates a hollow force at risk of mission failures.1 point

Wait a sec, Huckabee has a negative opinion piece on our new democrat President? Surprised. Can't wait for Rachel Maddow's upcoming book about the successes and triumphs of the Trump admin.1 point

I’m not a political blowhard refusing it out of spite. I just don’t want to put something in my body until it’s FDA approved and been clinically proven. I have seen friends and family of mine who were perfectly healthy have side effects from the vaccine (one is a professional mountain biker and she has had equilibrium problems and “brain fog” since the injection over one month ago). So why would I inject myself with something that could cause me problems?1 point

Not only has he been a clown his entire career, he now likely has legitimate cognitive decline on top of that. To be honest I do feel kind of bad for him at times. I certainly am not a fan of Biden politically, but no one deserves to be propped up like this man is being, when he should be enjoying the latter stages of his life in peace and quiet with his family.1 point

Nah. The problem isn’t technology, it’s bureaucrats. And that applies to the dinosaur civilian companies as much as it does to the government. This dude is talking about sending emails and attachments, FFS. Dinosaur shit. More tech just makes bureaucrats demand more bureaucratic activities be accomplished. For organizations that actually get shit done, collaboration software accelerates their accomplishments. In the end it’s all about leadership.1 point

Reminds me of when I log a pay card, just to log pay cards. What used to take less than a minute, has turned into a 15-20 minutes minimum, IF the network is running good. It was bad enough at one point that one of our pilots wouldn't start his debrief until he successfully logged his pay card. Either way, he left work at the same time.1 point

@GreenArc my paperwork had the doctor sign off saying I was qualified for service and it had all the results from my testing there too. I had to reference it when my opt said I initially failed my DP test (I passed when I was at MEPs). As for the SG, I imagine the short answer is - it depends. It sounds like you got waivered at MEPs for general military service, and obviously WP may have different standards depending on what the condition is since WP is trying to qualify you for flight service specifically. Since he already waivered you I would bring all of the paperwork with you to WP without a doubt and read the AF waiver guide here.1 point

Probably right, but then you also have the CDC telling people they need to keep wearing masks and social distancing even if they've had the vaccine. I still plan on getting one... but they certainly aren't offering a lot of incentives to people on the fence by saying nothing will change if you get vaccinated.1 point

I’ve asked various commanders I’ve worked for why we don’t strat more than 15-20% unlike the Marines that strat everyone. Most say something along the lines of “the Air Force doesn’t care about you if you’re not in the top 15-20%. It’s just another method to discretely maintain an HPO system. I wish we would strat everyone 1-n, there should be no question on where an officer stands relative to their peers. But that would eliminate the cat string that causes officers to think that they still have a chance.1 point

I've repeated this here and I'm probably wasting keystrokes, but the era of solely-liberal "mainstream media" is past. There are many established and new conservative-leaning outlets beyond Fox (much of talk radio, OAN, Newsmax, Blaze, NY Post, WSJ editorials, certain podcasts, etc, etc) Granted, they may not have the same collective viewership (yet) as the liberal outlets but they have the ability to deliver whatever narrative they want. That said, the two sides are so far apart there aren't any moderate news sources in the US. An important point because the media/political cabals are trying to get each of us to choose a side and stay in it. You're not "allowed" to be, for instance, pro-environment AND pro-2A. Or capitalist AND pro-Obamacare. It's kind of Orwellian how we are trained to be reflexively loyal to one political party or the other. End of conspiracy theory rant. BBC might be the least biased major outlet. Of course, bias is in the mind of the consumer. I'm sure there are folks on the extremes that consider Infowars or Mother Jones moderate.1 point

An Illinois county that he doesn't even represent voted to censure him. Which shows how seriously we should take county party organizations. Maybe the 4H club two counties over will censure him next! It's refreshing to see a true conservative refuse to go down with the ship. He also won his district by a substantially higher margin that did Trump, so his constituency is clearly well represented. I hope he's the future of the party. If not, God help us all.1 point

ACE was the best thing to happen to me as a pilot. I gained more confidence, even in the big jet, from my hours in ACE. I flew the crap out of ACE and ended up with almost 500 hours in the tweet after UPT even during a time they were trying to limit the number of hours we got in ACE. There was nothing like the experience gained from you and another Lt. galivanting around the US in your own Tweet (or if you were at the right base, the T38 ) for 4 or 5 days. I flew into most every state in the contiguous 48 while flying tweets and managed to hit 3 of the 4 corners on different trips (Key West, Miramar, and Loring). It wouldn't fix the fighter pilot primary mission issues, but would give good basic aircraft skills enhancement and consistency, even to those guys. The fighter guys could fly locals doing formation work reinforcing tactical. The TASS guys were probably proficient at tactical flying when they made the jump from 250 knots flying OA-37s and OV-10s to 500 knots flying F-4s, F-16s and F-15s.1 point

My take on PME in the current environment from the cheap seats... With the removal of “off-the-board” IDE/SDE designees, the playing field has leveled a bit and statistically, the average person’s (average as in “generic” not record or performance) chances of being selected improved. At the same time, the retention issues led to the relaxation of some parts of the process (no prejudice for turning it down, trading slots, etc). Tons of people picked up off the alt lists as well. It became a buyer’s market. COVID is obviously impacting the retention piece but I doubt AFPC has any idea of how that plays out long term. I think the inertia of the current situation will last at least another cycle or two. I’m not promoting or deriding PME - like anything else it’s great for some folks (break in Ops tempo, some great locations if not at Maxwell), it also brings sacrifices (multiple moves, payback tours, ADSC). In general it offers more folks an opportunity to compete for PME if they want to, and therefore more folks will be in the mix for SQ/CC opportunities as well. Promotions are facing a similar situation. I know a few folks who picked up O-6 on the most recent board without any traditional commands or res SDE. USAF is hurting for O-6s and that need will trickle down to the O-5 boards. Word on the street is that even the Colonels’ group is beginning to understand that folks’ personal preferences will need to be met (previously something they never gave an F about) in order to retain enough folks to man Pentagon desks. The aperture has widened for certain career and promotion opportunities, but like anything else, it’s totally up to the individual to weigh cost/benefit. FWIW I attended non-USAF IDE in res off the alternate board. Great year doing non-AF stuff.1 point

I think we're conflating two things here. Whether or not you should get the vaccine, and the Air Force's dumpster fire policies relating to covid are two completely separate issues. Anyone who has been in the Air Force for more than a day should have been able to predict that they'd enact idiotic policies, and commanders would revert to extreme risk aversion. But none of that should play into your decision of whether or not to get the vaccine. Getting the vaccine should be based on your personal health and that is it. Big Air Force nonsense shouldn't play into that decision and neither should politics. But what I'm seeing in the 1/3rd of service members turning down the vaccine are a bunch of political blowhards refusing it out of spite. It's a selfish act of political defiance, a middle finger at big blue and the libtard lockdown people, with not a second thought given to their actual health. And that is a problem.0 points
