It's one part depressing and one part amazing how many people will say just about anything with supreme confidence, then completely fall apart when you simply ask "why?"2 points

To be fair, most Air Force bases stateside aren’t dealing with 9,500ft density altitude issues and a 215hp SR-20 is more than enough for the mission we’re talking about here. But I see your point. I think you inadvertently bring up a great point though as to why this idea is likely never going to get off the ground in today’s Air Force in the first place. Having had direct insight into the acquisition process, a suggestion like going with an SR-22 vs the SR-20 is going to be met with so much requirements creep at each level of Bob that you’re either going to end up with something so expensive and beyond what was originally intended that it will get cut within a few years or it will never get approved in the first place. Bob1 is going to see an SR22 and say that’s great but I need something that operates in the flight levels and is at least a turboprop. Bob2 is going to agree and also say he needs something that pulls Gs. Bob3 is going to say he agrees with Bob1 about operating in the flight levels but doesn’t need an ejection seat. So we’ll end up at the T-6 and T-1 as suggested companion trainers (which isn’t a bad idea) but the reason we were considering GA aircraft was we already knew that the T-6 and T-1 in this role was going to be deemed too expensive in the first place.2 points

He's a fucking moron. The fact that they haven't come out and told vaccinated people that they can do whatever the hell that they want, now that all the data has been collected on the vaccine, is nearly criminal. Our entire system of government is predicated on protecting power from any individual or small group, and this pandemic has been a resounding reinforcement of those dangers. I don't suspect there will be much honest analysis from the left on the pandemic, but thank god Florida, Texas, and a few other states had the nuts to do things their own way, so we can at least look back with definitive proof that the totalitarian answer to a pandemic was not successful.2 points

Please, if we're going to talk about getting a GA aircraft as a companion trainer, never mention the SR20 (T-53) again. The plane is underpowered. USAFA flying ops are routinely terminated early during the summer, because the T-53 won't climb for crap. Hit 9,500' DA (a routine occurrence at USAFA), and you're done for the day. Ops are substantially restricted at 9,000 DA. On a hot day, pulling closed when dual with a cadet (who tend to a bit lighter than the average winged AF pilot) can be eye-opening enough. Throw a couple "body by AMC" types in the airplane, and performance limitations are all the more apparent. The SR22--the SR20's more powerful cousin--would be awesome, though. Better power, longer range, and the same CAPS system that has saved so many folks who put themselves in a bind. It certainly ain't cheap but (as discussed previously in this thread) it's operating costs are fractions of pennies (if not fractions of pennies) on the dollar compared to many of the airframes flown by AF pilots. I assume you’re referring to GWB. Never met/worked with him but he struck me as a good person overall and certainly not as dumb as some pundits claimed. More of a practical common sense guy. On the other hand, I have spoken with Biden within the past 18 months. He was sharp, made good points, and had good insights at a new tech event. However, at this point he’s a 10 hour a day guy rather than 18 hours. Similar to Reagan in his last term.2 points

If you have an extra $300-400k for a new GA aircraft, you probably sit in the upper brackets of income levels. That's more than the average US house price. Let's not kid ourselves about how rich one likely is to be able to afford a new production GA aircraft. I wish GA was a middle-class hobby, but it isn't if you shop new.1 point

Like CH, I got mine at the VA and I've never used them for anything. Eligibility is receiving care or eligible to receive care. They had a car checkpoint just after the gate asking the symptoms questions. After that, they had a few folks directing traffic to the area doing the shots in the hospital. Got a clipboard and number (like the barber shop) and waited my turn. Our VA has been doing Moderna but they just got a shipment of Pfizer and that's what I got (and based on my own research, I preferred). They were giving 2nd doses of Moderna that morning as well. After the shot, I barely had a sore arm, but I massaged it a lot after the shot. And that was it. No temp, no aches, no chills, nothing. I suspect I got a shot of saline. And ditto on the VA staff, all friendly and such. As for scheduling, I get the VA e-mail newsletters and saw they are now doing all eligible vets. The state is at 1B. I called, someone answered right away, and was scheduled with what worked for me, 2 days out. I'm eligible to get a shot thru Cook County in IL via work for the last 4 weeks, but any attempt has been a shit show. Out1 point

Never hurts to have a fixed-wing background. This coming from a regional airline pilot that never thought he'd want to fly anything except Black Hawks. Soak up all the hours you can get on Uncle Sam's dime.1 point

It's almost like we can respect women and recognize that pregnancy doesn't mean we should boot people out of the military, AND prepare to fight china at the same time. I appreciate our senior leaders jumping on this right away and setting the tone for everyone under them...that treating our female colleague as "other" or "less than" when they get pregnant is unacceptable.1 point

Let me say this first: I support diversity & inclusion. Some of the best officers and commanders I know aren't white males. Pick a race & sex combination and I've served with them. Personally, I'm also an advocate for girls in Boy Scouts of America and had all three of my daughters in BSA programs for the last decade...nothing against Girl Scouts, I just like the BSA programs (Boy Scouts, Venture Crews, Explorers) better. Now...I think both sides have missed the point. POTUS was at the ceremony for the 2x women 4-Star Combatant Commander. Of course his speechwriter, like all speechwriters, was going to throw in something with wide-spectrum relevancy, so highlighting the pregnancy flightsuit and other uniform changes was on there. Based on the speed of government efficiency, I'm assuming that development started under the Trump administration. If you watch the entire segment, not just the Twitter clip, Tucker was making a comparison to China, which is going through the same issues the US is...and in a potential response, built up their navy to over 350 ships. So Tucker, an opinion show, missed the point and tried to connect two data points that aren't directly obvious to fit his particular narrative. Who at MSNBC, CNN, print media hasn't done that? But...so did SecDef and the rest of the Senior Military Leaders who commented. Or at least over-reacted IMO. It seemed like thy were punching down to me, and I'm not sure they would have been better off keeping their powder dry...but the reaction above "Fuck this elite, pandering piece of trash" seems to be the GO#1 for both sides of the aisle. Everyone has their Ego involved and no one is willing to realize they aren't 100% correct. Critical thinking has been abandoned. Again, this is just my opinion, but by responding so aggressively to this Tucker story, it's made it emotional on both sides of the argument. Every advancement for diversity in the ranks will be met with comparisons to China's growing military power. Every question will in-turn be viewed through the lens of regressive, "Neanderthal" thinking and disregarded and attacked. A question for the SecDef, @17D_guy, and every one who agrees with him...did you have as much vitriol over RPA crews being called "baby killers" when they were listed as killing 1,700 civilians/400 kids? https://www.afsc.org/blogs/news-and-commentary/us-has-killed-thousands-people-lethal-drones#:~:text=According to the Bureau of,400 of whom were children.1 point

I interviewed at the 115th’s last board (176th fighter squadron F-16 unit) and one of the RC-26 pilots was interviewing with them and he got picked up. So yes definitely possible. Best of luck!1 point

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." --John Rogers1 point

There’s 690K people in the AF/working directly for the AF. Yes there’s going to be some of every fill-in-the-blank group that is undesirable, but it’s disingenuous and misleading bullshit to say this stuff is a large enough problem that it requires anything to be done above the wing level. Most cases should be able to be dealt with by SQ/CC or GP/CC level (potentially with interactions with JA, OSI, etc.) The AF is not racist, white supremicist, etc...those things exist in statistically irrelevant amounts, so society/big Gov/DOD should stop acting like they are anything but “one offs” (obviously still address those one offs at the local level).1 point

That’s another funny/hypocritical part of this whole thing. Like we had to listen to the 8 years of tropes and jokes on GW basically being a distracted kid in a day care whole Cheney and the other evil capitalist corporate men ran the government from the Shadows... Now the same people peddling that it’s simply impossible that Biden is just a propped up face man for the people actually running the government. Like for a group of people in one political reality it’s possible, in the other it’s insulting to even describe. And we just switch who gets to feel what as the letter next to the name changes in office. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Probably because he's stupid. You don't have to wait for him to stutter to come to that conclusion. The guy has been a joke for 40 years. Now we're supposed to pretend he's not? He's pants-on-head stupid, and pretending otherwise is just as absurd as the Trumpists denying that Trump was a habitual liar.1 point

Knew not one but two dudes in the BUFF who would share videos on Facebook about how it was a mistake for South Africa to end apartheid. And at Dyess we have someone working at the sim building with QAnon decals on his or her car (also a Texas A&M car ornament, naturally). The crazies are out there.
