As concerning as the billion plus dollars worth of damage and destruction that happened with the Democrat supported mobs in the summer of 2020? More concerning? Less concerning? As concerning?5 points

I understand that data. But under the current Governor’s mandate, a white person and a person of color that have not met previous eligibility criteria and have the exact same risk level, with the only difference being the pigment of their skin; the white person gets to pound sand and wait just because they don’t have the right color skin. That’s discrimination. There is of course a legitimate way to handle this that doesn’t segregate shot eligibility based on skin color, and it goes like this, “As the governor of Vermont I am opening vaccine eligibility to all Vermont residents age 16 and up. In addition, I have authorized our vaccine task force to put special emphasis on getting additional vaccine supply to our underserved communities that have been hit harder by this virus. We need as many Vermonters as possible to get this shot as soon as possible and opening up the eligibility to all will accomplish this.” Of course there are almost no real leaders anymore in the political class, so we get race based decision to score political points. Can you imagine if you replaced POC with “white person” in the governors statement? It would sound like something right out of Deep South segregation.4 points

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.politico.com/amp/news/magazine/2021/03/15/russia-putin-invasion-ukraine-baltics-nato-475527 This was a pretty interesting opinion piece on this very topic, I hope things don’t come to a full blown invasion. I’m truly not certain what our decision caucus would be if that happens.2 points

Are old/obese white people or more or less vulnerable to C19 than young otherwise healthy people of color? I haven’t been following the science closely, appreciate any data you have. And since discrimination based on ethnicity is on the table now, what other areas of society is this practice acceptable?2 points

Oh, hell no. "Very fine people on both sides" never existed in reality, yet it became a weapon for four years. Same for "I can see Russia from my front porch." So, she said it. True or not. And she did raise money to bail out rioters. Actions being even louder than non-existent words.1 point

I read that article as well. IMO, Ukraine may be a lost cause for the West. The precedent of Russian troops fighting in the country is long established & no treaty exists that would compel Western nations to act, even in the event of a full scale invasion. The Baltics present a much more concerning issue. They joined NATO precisely because they realized the threat Russia continued to present to their independent existence. They uphold their commitments to the alliance and are fully entitled to all the benefits of being NATO members, including the invocation of Article 5 if necessary. They are good people who are fiercely proud of shaking off the shackles of Russian (and German) rule. (Highly recommend a visit to the museum of occupation in Riga if you’re ever there.) The United States and NATO should be very clear in their messaging to Putin that any aggression in the Baltics will, in fact be treated as an attack on the alliance writ large and that he should tread very carefully on his western frontier.1 point

Meh... I'm busy worrying about where the MLB all-star game will be played and what Delter and Coke think about election law. Russia can have Ukraine... and I'm indifferent on Taiwan.1 point

I know you mentioned as of now you have no preference of location/airframe, but do you think that may change in the future? From what I can tell as a civilian looking in the AD side of the house involves a lot more moving all over the world. I guess it depends on your personal goals if you don’t mind being moved around well into your 30s. If I was in your shoes I would crush the AFOQT, rush your most desirable units, apply everywhere, if after a year of that no bites then I would start to consider AD. For the AFOQT make sure to study those time tables a lot!! I studied very hard but didn’t study the time tables because I didn’t think you could study them. Needless to say it did bring my pilot score down to an 88. Hope this helps!1 point

Per a real fighter pilot: it's a young man's or woman's game. Flying a heavy just is not as physically punishing, so the units are more likely to look past age. In a twist of irony, per fresh info today...now is not the time to go AD (see reddit). At 26, get your ass in the car and drive to the nearest heavy unit and enlist if you really want it. Or rush like crazy once COVID f**KS off and hammer your flight training. I chose the latter path, COVID ruined my rushing opportunities. AD board just got pulled most likely for this year. But at least I have an engineering gig and soon to be CFI. The universe is chaos, plan accordingly.1 point

What’s the Kendi quote, “the only solution for past discrimination is present discrimination, and the only solution for present discrimination is future discrimination”? So all aspects, I think.1 point

It couldn't possibly be that people of color have a higher incidence of COVID in the state and that this is a way to reduce the numbers much like other populations... COVID-19 among BIPOC (healthvermont.gov)1 point

I'm not getting in some dumb semantic argument about what's the worst thing the US has ever done. The bottom line here is that delusional political extremists were actively encouraged by lies from the sitting president and stormed the capitol. And that is a very bad thing. I don't know where it places on the ultimate scale of national shame but it's the worst thing I've seen since I've been paying attention to politics. Almost as concerning is the sheer number of non-extremist republicans who continued on the trump bandwagon as he devolved into increasingly desperate political lies and tantrums. It shows how few Americans have actual principles and how many want to just pick a team and root for that team at all costs.1 point

United announced today they are starting to hire immediately. Once all the majors start the train the USAF is going to see the pain that they are causing themselves. I just hope I bail before any type of stop loss is implemented.1 point

Your COVID vaccine doom porn reads exactly like the clowns that are all in on the "COVID is the worst tragedy to ever strike this earth" doom porn. COVID vax doomers and COVID doomers remind me of the old Communism/Fascism adage; both are so far to opposite sides they actually find themselves back to back in the same spot. I think you should maybe lay off the Epoch Times for a bit. The data I saw showed under 1,000 people had died after getting at least the first shot. However it's already come out that the data includes people who died in car accidents or other causes of death. It's not even remotely surprising either that some have died after getting a vaccine when you consider the massive effort to get the elderly vaccinated. It's not hard to imagine an 88 year old getting the vaccine and then dying 2 weeks later because guess what!? They're old! I've also noticed a hilarious trend of the Vax Doomers. They are often the first to jump and point out that the COVID death numbers make it hard to determine whether someone actually died of COVID or just with COVID, including pointing to examples of car accident deaths or overdoses being labeled as COVID if the person tested positive (which btw, I agree with the notion that our death numbers are likely flawed). But as soon as some data comes out showing deaths after vaccine, the data is all of a sudden gospel truth and proof that people are dropping dead from the jabs and only the jabs. Forgive me while I don't jump on your doom train, just like I didn't jump on the COVID fear porn train. Its amazing if you step back and take an objective look at things for more than a few minutes how often you find yourself in a nice middle ground.1 point
