The bigger problem than media bias or even outright lies is that most people don't have the self awareness to notice that they're radicalized on one side of the aisle or the other. I tend to think about one's information diet just like a food diet. You should consume a balanced variety of information just like a healthy diet has a variety of meat, veggies, carbs etc... The difference is that at least a shitty food diet will let you know it sucks because you'll get fat. A bad information diet is far more insidious because there are no objective outward signs of radicalization until it's too late. The other piece is people whose entire existence and sense of self worth is tied up in political views. And just like food, politics should be consumed in moderation. But moderation isn't the behavior media companies want. Fox and CNN survive based on engagement, and they know that outrage and inflammatory stories drive engagement more than anything else. Do we really think we're going to get for-profit media companies tone down their rhetoric when they know it will cost them engagement numbers? Is McDonald's going to purposely make their fries less tasty so you don't want to eat them as much?

A few random and/or cool things happened this week that I couldn't find where to post appropriately, so my intent on this thread is for those items that aren't "WTF," as that, to me, has a negative to shocking connotation and the items here are not that. It would be great if they were all uplifting, but one of mine is not going to be, unfortunately. Mods, apologies if these have places to be sorted and I missed it. 1. NASA flew a freakin' helicopter on Mars twice over the last week. 2. NASA via SpaceX flew a previously-owned rocket and ship to the ISS taking a four-man crew including the wife of the commander of the first SpaceX launch. 3. An Indonesian submarine sank on Thursday and is still unfound. Although likely having gone down below crush depth already, the crew runs out of oxygen tomorrow if they haven't. One of the top three ways I wouldn't want to die.

I had the same issues (rotation/lateral mvmt) and finally had the flight doc look at it when it still hurt after nearly a year. Got an MRI and found that I didn't have an ACL anymore. Doc didn't DNIF me so long as I was able to egress the airplane and run to a safe distance. I finally got the surgery about a year after that (2 yrs after the initial injury) and was back flying in about 2.5 months. If you can manage the pain for now then you can probably schedule the surgery for whenever is most convenient for you (YMMV). Best of luck with recovery.

Sounds like Beechcraft needs to pump out an AF version of the T-44C. Beefy landing gear from the start and there goes half your longevity problems for a UPT airframe! But that’s not a jet, so clearly it won’t meet our training needs. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I'm sure you've heard this before, but if you choose to go to the airlines, you'll want to get to a wide body ASAP. It's about as close to retirement as you can get while still gainfully employed.

So I never spend my AD time PLANNING to go to the airlines. I litaraly just got bored and had a friend applying to Skywest. When he showed up for his interview, I decided to go through class with him, so I applied. (Keep in mind that this is 2017 pre 'Rona). I was in class two weeks later. Here are things that I learned in the first six months, keeping in mind that I ignored all the airline talk in the squadron cuz I was gonna be retired and only half listened. All advice I am about to give is based on your stated preferences, which are remarkably similar to mine: -Living in base is EVERYTHING. Commuting sucks. Don't do it unless you just can't stand living in one of the bases of your desired airline. I had to commute DEN to ORD for all of a month. After that, sitting reserve at home was awesome! Putz around the house with the phone on. NBD. -Once I got a line, the advantage of a regional is that there are a lot of kids who are super hungry for hours, so I gave away enough trips a month to work 30-40 hours (8 ish days away) per month. That was also perfect for me. Working just enough to still enjoy it just became easier after COVID. -Disadvantage is pay. Skywest starts out at $50/hour when a major airline doubles that. But, I was a Nav, so I didn't have the turbine time requirement to go straight to the "Majors". I think the same work schedule is possible at the Major Airlines fairly quickly, but I can't speak to it, I only have second hand knowledge, which is probobly the same as you have from the beat up old reserve LtCol who works for Southwest that you hang out with. -Huge advantage is travel benifits. My wife and I have produced no crotch fruit and don't plan to. Kids out of the house is same thing. Wanna go hang in Hawaii for the weekend? The price is zero. Want a beer in Germany? $Free.95. You get the idea. We actually ran the calculations, and with my time off to free time ratio, we hit the road so much that the math said it trippled my paycheck in '19 in that benifit alone. YMMV based on crash 9/11, crash of '08, 'Rona, Godzilla attack, etc. Bottom line is that I love it. Best part is going into work, getting on the jet, doing airplane things, and walking off with about 5 min of time spent on briefing/debriefing. You go to work to go FLY. The way God intended it. Hello, my name is Evan Stahl. I am making an inquiry to see if anyone knows the director of operations or base commander at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base . I applied to the USMC PLC program (commissioning route for college students) and was not granted a guaranteed aviation contract. I am a rising junior in collage. I can reapply next quarter (June 1st), but the contract is still not guaranteed until I am accepted. I heard from my brother that reserve squadrons can offer pilot slots and decided to reach out.
