He doesn’t have to conform to how his future employer may do it, nor how the AF does it, he has to abide by the FARs. And I don’t think any airline is going to ask or give a fuck in the interview, at that point in his flying career, about 69 hrs he logged ten years ago. And if they do, he can provide a response about how he logged time IAW FAR 61.51.4 points

My wife loves watching this stuff and this morning, there was a Silver Medalist gymnast being interviewed. Instead of asking her about her path to the Olympics, her work hours, and her achievement, the idiot interviewer is asking the Medal winning gymnast what she thinks of Simone Biles. I was impressed with her answers as a solid supporting teammate but it's was another conversation about a non-winner eclipsing the accomplishments of a winner.3 points

The AF has been in deep shit for a while. They just had a COVID induced loss of sensory information and haven’t been able to smell it for the last year and a half.3 points

Almost all of it, at least the amount you’re acting as sole manipulator of controls. Expanded reasoning… FAR 61.51 states you can log PIC when acting as sole manipulator of controls, for any airplane in which you’re rated. Rated = category, class , type (if applicable). You can log PIC while receiving instruction, provided you meet the conditions in the first sentence. T-6 = Aircraft single engine land, no type required.2 points

I recall signing for the jet at the step desk during any upt solos. Though tbh as a stud with a helmet fire it could have been anything that I was signing.2 points

The Qatar and Italian high jumper go height for height the entire competition and both end up tied. Instead of electing for a jump off to determine the winner they agree to share the gold. Hands down one of the best Olympic moments of all time and what this is all about. The video their reactions is a must watch. https://youtu.be/GjSCT97GSsA Top High Jumpers decide to SHARE Gold in instant-classic final | Tokyo Olympics | NBC Sports2 points

Can confirm the TDART program is dead, at least for the time being. I am 2 months from finishing up my seasoning and had already applied and been accepted to the TDART program. Then a few days ago I was told unless you have begun your 4 years as a TDART you no longer have it. There was talk about taking it from the guys are already in the TDART program, but that seems to passed. The retention bonus that those early dude were getting was terminated, however. There is a meeting set to happen in August with AFRC to figure out a path forward but who knows how long it will be before we hear an answer.2 points

Dude, I'm telling ya there are people that will litigate this to their last separation paper. So noone is going to jump on this for a chance to not be sick for a few days.1 point

Looking at the top things on the list makes me think people with a demonstrated ability to doggedly pursue a goal no matter what correlates with success. Shocker. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk1 point

Any data on that? I'm not aware of any worrying short term vax side effects that are occurring in statistically significant amounts. Most of the arguments I've seen tie it to hypothetical infertility years down the road. And for the short term, we do actually have good data because there have been billions of doses administered.1 point

Statistically speaking you're right. People our age/fitness level are very unlikely to be hospitalized or die from covid. But that possibility still exists as does the far more likely scenario of having a symptomatic infection that knocks you on your ass for a few days/weeks. The vaccination greatly reduces the likelihood of both of those things. And if you're going to be forced to take vaccine at some point anyway, you'll have to accept the vax side effects risks whether you want to or not. That side of the equation isn't changing. Just seems like a no-brainer to me to go ahead and get it if they're going to mandate it eventually. Because if you hold out, you're basically buying all of the covid risk and all of the vaccine risk.1 point
-
point to ponder: I'm hearing rumblings that full FDA authorization for the vaccine is imminent, and with that status leadership is telling us it will be made mandatory for military members very soon. So the question is, does this change the risk calculus at all for those choosing not to get the shot so far? If you will eventually be forced to take the shot and accept whatever side effect risks there are associated with the vaccine, why not just go ahead and get it now and at least buy yourself near term protection.1 point

He didn't ask how to report PIC time for the airlines, just if he can log PIC. He said he has a CPL which I assume is his commercial, so he can log PIC a multiple of ways. To reiterate, he can log PIC as the sole manipulator of the controls if he's flying while the instructor is in the aircraft, and he can also log PIC when he is soloing since he already has a ticket. And having a commercial ticket means you can log time in a high performance, complex aircraft. The only caveat would be if there is a type rating associated with the aircraft, which in the case of the T-6, doesn't exist. To echo Brabus, airlines don't dictate how PIC time is logged, the FAA does.1 point

The Olympics are a funny thing. My default position is I don't care in the least about them, especially in this day and age of wokey this and wokey that. My wife, however, is a lifetime Olympic fiend, so the games are on constantly in my house. It's kind of funny how, one minute I don't give a damn, and the next minute life as I know it will be over if the women's volleyball team doesn't defeat Cuba. And the men's swimming medley was phenomenal. So, yeah, it's still entertaining. Hats off to the genuine Olympic rock stars who do phenomenal things and are proud of the nation that supports them.1 point

Yes. And if you haven't you are the exception and certainly not the rule. Don't get me wrong, I've had great commanders and mediocre ones as well, but 1 toxic commander is enough to jade your whole career.1 point

If you hold a private or higher FAA ticket already, then you can log PIC/SIC like any other aircraft. Solo and dual received are only for student pilots.1 point

Exquisite logic. Unfortunately it's because that approach doesn't have the unstated, but desired, effect of stigmatizing the unvaccinated.1 point

Folks, United Airlines had a newhire pilot class start Indoc on Tuesday (27 July). Pilots in that class (and some in other recent classes) were just awarded B777 in the vacancy bid that closed yesterday. That’s pretty decent proof that a) it should be a good time to get to the airlines, and b) the AF is potentially in deep doodoo…1 point

I'm no SWA sunshine pumper, but this is all a bit of hyperbole. 1. 73 for the rest of your life? "Like anyone can even know that." We have no idea what's going on tomorrow in this company, so it's a pretty bold statement that we'll be flying the 73 for the next 30 years (assuming you're ~35 years old now). I'd put a round of Boilermakers on us having a different airplane in the fleet in the next 30 years. 2. Multi-leg days? Sure. I don't know many guys/gals that do 1 leg a day, no matter the airline. And if you do, it's probably a long leg. I'd guess the duty days are about the same. Give me three 1.5 hour legs over one 7 hour leg, but that's just me. I've had plenty of trips with only one leg in a day. 3. Same towns? Doesn't every airline fly to the same towns? We have ~120 destinations and no one has added more in the past year than we have. If you think SWA isn't going to grow even more in the future than I don't know what to tell you. When looking at seniority, it really means jack shit if you can't hold the base you want to hold. Looking at retirements only tells part of the story. Can you upgrade faster at AA vs. SW? More than likely. But I'm assuming you'll be stuck in NY or MIA or whatever the junior CA bases are at AA. Just like you'll be stuck at OAK or LAX if you upgrade at SW. SWA isn't a bad place to work. Yes, it's all narrow body flying and that's not for everyone, but as a Herk guy who has a 3.0 ass, it's just like flying in the desert. Except no one is shooting at you and the loadmasters look better (sometimes). Only having one aircraft in the fleet is good and bad. As previously stated, if you want to fly something else, you can't (for now). At the same time, if I want to trade away a trip, I have roughly 4500 other FOs as trade partners. I can pick up extra flying as a reserve holder and even trade my reserve for a trip if someone is willing (supposedly most airlines don't have this option). 99% of the CAs I've flown with have been really great dudes that generally don't give a shit about how you fly as long as you get us there safely. On the other hand, the ra-ra OnE LuV shit is wearing off. We're all "one team, one heart" until they threaten furloughs 2 weeks before Christmas, knowing they had no intentions of actually following through with them. One thing that came out of it is our pilot group and Union are stronger than ever (this coming from the mouths of the old guys). The company thinks pilots will choose to come here versus others because we treat our pilots better and "we've never furloughed!" but that's all now bullshit. We get paid less per hour and we generally work harder. I'd advise anyone to do homework and pick an airline that fits your lifestyle. Also look at seniority at your desired base, not just company wide.1 point

I never said what Lohmeier did was sound, nor that he shouldn’t be held liable for the consequences ; although I feel that he was willing to fall on his sword for this one. I did say he is 100% correct that Marxist ideology is a threat to the military and that critical race theory is a bunch of BS. I do think Biden hiring a partisan hack to spy on military members social media accounts is a step too far and has a high likelihood of going south.1 point

That’s quite the slippery slope. Yes we fall under a different set of rules but let’s not pretend the current administration isn’t actively rooting out members of a particular political leaning in the name of “extremism.” Of course we aren’t talking about Black Lives Matter or Antifa, both of which have representation in our ranks and have done more to destroy society than a few idiots with confederate flags. “Rooting our extremism” is largely hypocritical and not without political bias . Many individuals on this forum voted for Trump but I would bet none of them would come close to actively supporting an insurrection. Based on your logic, they could get rid of the article that bans flogging (93 I think?) and you could say “well you signed up for it!” Lt Col Lohmeier was 100% correct on Marxism in the military - hence why he was to be silenced. Watch your backs dudes, it will get worse, especially after Biden’s handlers decide it is finally time to step him aside for Harris.1 point
