Speaking from experience (I've actually shot somebody), I do not think I would have shot the kid but it's quite possible I'd have shot the skateboard dude and almost certain I would have shot the dude pointing the pistol at the kid. The image that always comes to my mind is Reginald Denny.6 points

WTF? So you'd shoot someone defending themselves? If so, who do you think would be the next person dropped? If you don't instantly know, go look in a mirror. Or, if you were so lucky to survive shooting someone for no reason, how would you justify shooting someone who wasn't posing a lethal threat towards you? If you really thought "you'd be next," you have exceptionally poor SA or a clear issue of poor decision-making. It's clear as to why those who got shot, got shot. I honestly hope you aren't allowed to carry a firearm!5 points

In this situation are you imagining you’re a cop or another armed citizen? In either case, why did you let an angry mob attack the kid and burn the city? Did you ask the arsonist mob to “comply?” I welcome dialogue, but your post is nonsensical because it presumes this event occurred in a vacuum.5 points

If he doesn't raise his weapon at me or any other innocent bystanders there is no way I'd take that shot. I'm sure as heck not going to shoot a dude that just shot someone who was attacking him...especially when that dude was being chased/knocked to the ground with a skateboard. He was running down the street with his weapon lowered, passing tons of people and not bothering them, I'm not sure I'd be in a hurry to engage someone like that. Even if I just rounded the corner as he shot someone, if he didn't appear to be threatening anyone who wasn't attacking him, I'm not shooting. I'll be prepared to respond from a position of cover, but no way I just start shooting. You don't need hours of analysis/videos/etc... to make that call.2 points

So according to the left, Rittenhouse is a white supremacist for killing white guys trying to harm him, and found not guilty via due process, but this attack had nothing to do about race even though he killed all white people and is an actual racist…the silence from the left is deafening. https://nypost.com/2021/11/24/darrell-brooks-called-for-violence-against-white-people/?sr_share=facebook&utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_medium=SocialFlow&utm_source=NYPFacebook&fbclid=IwAR3xmYB9ZvEcIhb3exArNvbdiEBGnQEjFrSoFk7n3oGPb-5SBHb-A_q9GrA2 points

I’m gonna do it if mine is denied. I can retire in mid 2023, have passed my last AEF bucket, as not PCSing anymore and have zero TDYs on schedule. There is absolutely zero reason to deny mine based on operational needs....and my religious portion is genuine. if denied, I’ll keep appealing and then go the contentious objector route. Eglin just went to 100% no masks for the vaccinated. We have turned into a Marxist organization.2 points

AFSOC's been f'd for a lot longer than that. I think we have short memories...1 point

The situation at AFSOC is horrible but NO ONE CARES. The system encourages what has happened and the internal AFSOC politics made it even worse. There was a big purge of AFSOC O-6s a few years ago but nothing really came of it other than some very talented people ran for the door. You would think Big Blue leadership would pay attention when the sitting Group Commanders of your two premier AFSOC Wings bail at the same time. Both were on the Wing/CC list and they said nope...adios. Wait until the CAT 5 hits AFSOC....the current guy is horrible, so convinced he is right he do anything to preserve his legacy including getting rid of all the AC-130's...sadly this is not a joke. The incoming dude is pure hate, a vindictive cult of personality who will salt the earth behind him. Both have lined up their DOJ's (inside joke), and puppets who will continue to do their bidding to perpetuate the evil. I still talk to many folks on the inside and there is one overriding theme from all of them...dark dread. It will take AFSOC a generation to overcome, if it ever does.1 point

People should read "The Law of Self Defense: A Guide for the Armed Citizen" It's by Andrew Branca, a lawyer that specializes in self defense. If you carry a weapon you MUST read it.1 point

A successful outcome means they can’t continue to the stoke the fires of division and hatred. That’s why they have to throw gems like this into their articles about the case: https://abc7.com/ahmaud-arbery-death-murder-trial-jury-deliberations-georgia-killing/11266887/ Gotta keep the systemic racism lies and hatred juice flowin.1 point

Former Marine as well! The left HATES her, Tulsi and Haley. Shuts down their narrative. Similarly, left isn’t as happy as I thought they would be that the killers in the Aurbery case have been found guilty (by a predominantly white jury). Makes you wonder sometimes.1 point

It pushes their narrative that whites are evil and everyone else is oppressed. The left's whole strategy is building a pyramid of victims, with straight white men at the bottom.1 point

There's a retired O-6 instructor at my current location who was in an O-6 leadership position when I was a captain. I kept called him sir or Col XX the first couple events we had scheduled (just felt normal). He finally laughed the next time I did it and said "hey, its just --insert first name-- now). Super down to earth and a really good instructor pilot.1 point

Quick summary of this conversation: I speculate boosters may become mandatory, you come off the top rope mocking me, but now acknowledge boosters may be mandatory and you’ve forgotten that only 3 weeks ago it was a conspiracy theory. You think I’m a “southwest first officer” (which I assume is bad?), I think you're incapable of critical thought; conversation and compromise is impossible. That’s this whole COVID event in a microcosm. Wish I had an idea of how to move forward productively, but I don’t. From my viewpoint we have to: 1. cease mandates. “Emerging data to refine hypothesis” is fine, except this experiment involves human beings. How about we cease mandates until certain we aren’t making it worse? 2. hold responsible those who lied and abused their power, starting with Fauci and Cuomo and big tech oligarchs who crushed the free speech of doctors trying to help during a pandemic. 3. conduct an origin investigation on par with the 9/11 commission. That’s how we START healing. From his perspective I don’t know, but I’m guessing we get boosters every 6 months, ask no questions, and mock those who do. Our nation has irreconcilable differences and I fear for the future.1 point

If someone is so dangerous that society can’t risk them obtaining a firearm, then that person should be put in prison/secure hospital via due process. Gun control laws work about as well as drug laws…not very well.1 point

Lately there seem to be more and more stories of felons nabbed with a gun that should be doing time, but instead are victimizing the public. It is a shame we can't have Project Exile 2.0--for those who don't know, in the 90s the US Attorney's office teamed up with local officials in Richmond VA. Long story made short, if you were a criminal in possession of a gun, it was pretty much assured you were getting at least 5 years in a federal pen. https://ojjdp.ojp.gov/sites/g/files/xyckuh176/files/pubs/gun_violence/profile38.html You can google for the answers of why the return of such a hard-nosed policy is highly unlikely.1 point

Kenosha is my home town and I know it well. BLM and etc jumped in to make a scene and others joined the fray and created chaos. Burn it down, they said. The asshole gov Evers, that piece of "gotta please the BLMers" shit, refused to send state help like the National Guard. So the people said screw that, I'm not letting them burn down my town and responded, and brought guns. And people are upset on a self defense verdict? That kid should have stayed home. Rosenbaum was looking for a fight and picked on a kid he thought was vulnerable, because that's what he's done most of his life, molest little boys. If Rittenhouse wasn't there, it probably have been someone else, the next youngest and vulnerable looking kid. And we would be reading about some other trial of someone that defended themselves against Rosenbaum. Skateboarder Huber should have summoned the police instead of attacking. Side note and I've mentioned it before, is that many of the businesses that were looted and burned, are owned by non-white people and serve poorer neighborhoods. Like this one below. Some rioters tried to loot a deli/convenience store near my grandparents house. The citizens heard it, and came out shouting. They scattered and the store survived with some door damage.1 point

Shooting people for not wanting a mildly effective, yet no long term studies on side-effects or potential problems down the road for an injection that has to be repeated, apparently, ad infinitum. Not to mention these are the exact same tactics used by the BLM protestors, including during Dutch protests, and the authorities let 'em sweep on by with the arson and destruction. Yet being hesitant or resistant to said shot (note, it's not a "vaccine" by the scientific definition until Fauci said otherwise) gets you shot. Either way, the state ensures you get some sort of shot. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/police-netherlands-open-fire-covid-lockdown-protesters-european-nation-rcna6231 Seems legit...1 point

What's the proportion of vaccinated vs unvaccinated people in the population? This data is useless without knowing what the vaccination rate is.1 point

So you cited something that says scientists use emerging data to refine hypotheses? As in, scientists follow the scientific method? Cool, we're in agreement. Calling someone a sheep - tell me you're a Southwest first officer, without telling me you're a Southwest first officer. Question: do you wait for the CA to go on break before you "Let's go Brandon" on guard, or just do it at the gate? 😂1 point

Maybe it’s because having command in the USAF involves very little actual leadership and rather is more management of bureaucratic norms to not upset the status quo. I know people turning down management opportunities because there are better things to to do in life than be king turd of sh-t island.1 point

These people aren’t even good at hiding their lies if you have half a brain and pay attention. One of the BLM co-founders, Patrisse Cullors, lives in Topanga Canyon in LA, an area that is 90% white and is all multi million dollar homes. Clearly systemic racism at work there🙄1 point

Good question and not the easiest problem to solve. Disclaimer: I declined command with prejudice two years ago so this a is topic that I have fairly strong feelings about. Second hand info, so take it FWIW, but I've been told that our MAJCOM/CC has stated that AF leadership is fairly concerned about this. Long term projections/trends aren't good; supposedly there's a real possibility that there won't be enough qualified O-5/6s in the coming years to fill all the required command billets. At any given point AFSOC has about 110 or so O-6s; about 3 years ago there was an O-6 blood bath where 42 of them punched in the same year, was a rude wakeup call. From what I can tell there's another big wave of O-6 retirements currently under way. I honestly don't know why AFSOC was surprised this happened, we're coming into the era where you have people who've been at war for their entire career. Once you make O-6 you're a company man and your control over your future is often times much diminished, and in the last couple years your chances of an undesirable 365 increased dramatically (admittedly this risk is probably diminished now). I'd agree with your pitch that there is and probably needs to be a middle ground. I personally know several guys in the last two years who made O-6 and still retired prior to getting 3 years TIG. If the AF tries to push guys/gals into commands they don't want, I'm of the personal opinion it'll be a lose/lose for everyone involved. The people in question will most likely just retire so we'll lose the talent, or they'll stay and do a job they don't want, which means they people they're leading could suffer. In my small corner of the AF: 1. I think we could do a better job about being open with guys/gals about what their future looks like if they're on the command track. AFSOC does a horrible job IMO giving guys on the command track feedback on the DT results/discussions. Almost everyone is in the dark until if/when they get a hiring phone call. That makes it very difficult to prog out family life or have any idea about what your future holds. 2. I think we could also open up DO and CC slots to more non-school selects/line guys (not just top 10-15% people). I know plenty of bros in the ops units that would've made great commanders and would've been interested in serving in that role but never got the looks or opportunity cause they weren't put on that path as a Captain. This would serve to widen the command gene pool and not limit senior leaders' choices for command billets to careerist twats. One of the better CCs I've had was one of these guys, always a line dude, no school or jt staff and was a great commander during a challenging year for the squadron. 3. I believe keeping productive O-6s that decline command would be win for the AF and for those individuals. I worked with/around a decent amount of worthless/not smart/downright cockbaggish O-6s during my time on staff. Every guy on here has probably seen things come out of at least the MAJCOM that were uninformed/bad policy/caused issued at the ops units. Letting good O-6s go to staff lets those guys/gals continue to serve and leverages their experience where it could have positive effects at the squadron level. Standing by spears/thoughts.1 point

If you completed pilot training, you’re rated. It will be easier to get hired at a unit with a similar aircraft to what you’re flying in the Navy/USMC (e.g. fighter to fighter). But, it is completely possible to do a course or two to switch from heavy to fighter or helo to fixed wing (fighter or heavy). That said, your chances of getting hired are significantly reduced, but certainly not impossible. It’s unit dependent (what are their current needs) and if AETC has slots for your specific training requirement on the timeline you want/unit wants.1 point

Let's say you are a patrolman and some rigged up dude comes running down the street in a riot..pointing and aiming and just shot someone...do you shoot the dude who ..by God.. looks like a kid? Your decision time is already up...-1 points

Ya took too long there Spike Buddy...the kid ran past and just shot another dude...what are your thoughts..ya only got a few seconds if that...Did he shoot in self defense? Was the second victim trying to defend himself ? In any case ya REALLY got to hurry up 'cause the kid just blew the bicep off ANOTHER victim...was it self defense? By who? quick now...Jeeze Spike Buddy...You got THREE victims and still haven't made a decision...A jury of 12 of your peers may be analyzing YOUR action..or lack of ..soon enough..-1 points

Actually..I do feel pretty bad ..In any case If I had been there and watched him shoot a man with his rifle ..I think that it's probably 75-25 that I would have shot the kid if he didn't instantly comply..esp. if he turned towards me..No video..no hours of analysis....no goofy judges and lawyers...nothing but a kid?..with a rifle..that he just used to drop someone..with me possibly next...well that kid was found not guilty of anything...makes me feel kind of dumb..eh? I apologize for the digression..-1 points
