Got my assignment notification this morning. Heading to Columbus in September!3 points

100% agreed, if that happened it should be investigated and those responsible should be punished...regardless of political affiliation. Do you share the same sentiment on the topic of the Hunter Biden Laptop or do you just hand waive like the liberal hate machine, the mainstream media and the tech oligarchs?3 points

Your first and third paragraphs assert two different things. The latter is close to correct, just replace "yet" with "and" I am complaining about mandates, absolutely. I am not complaining about people wearing surgical masks skiing, biking, etc. (In fact, I said I was oddly in favor of it.) People were reacting to the picture of the band member with the hole in her mask, and I felt like pointing out that there are many common examples of mask practices that are equally insane, despite not having a literal hole in the mask. Does that mean I "feel pretty strongly about what choices other people make for themselves?" Sure. I have opinions. Everyone does. You'll notice, however, that I never suggest that my opinion means anyone else has to be mandated to do something. In fact, I wrote "Other people can wear whatever they want."3 points

DoD lessons learned report is out and it is brutal, so ugly Biden rejected the findings during an interview on NBC last night. At one point the top commander appealed to the White House to keep Bagram open, it took three days to get an answer and the answer was CLOSE BAGRAM. Among the other findings: The top U.S commander on the ground during the evacuation, Navy Rear Adm. Peter Vasely, told Army investigators that service members would have been "much better prepared to conduct a more orderly" evacuation "if policymakers had paid attention to the indicators of what was happening on the ground." "The top Marine was not permitted to discuss the possibility of a mass-evacuation with anyone other than British officials the report noted." Some State Department personnel were “intoxicated and cowering in rooms,” and others were “operating like it was day-to-day operations with absolutely no sense of urgency or recognition of the situation,” the officer said. During an Aug. 6 meeting, a National Security Council official, who is not identified in the report, appeared to lack a sense of urgency and told others involved that if the United States had to execute an evacuation, it would signal “we have failed,” Sullivan recalled. “In my opinion, the NSC was not seriously planning for an evacuation,” he said. The White House declined to comment.2 points

Agree 100%. It is fundamentally about the mandates. The rage is because people cannot just do what they want. We're supposed to, stupidly and for no reason at this point, wear a mask on base. My kids, likewise, are forced to wear one at school for no reason. As soon as the mandates go away, I'm good. Other people can wear whatever they want. I know many people will, while ironically claiming to "follow the science," continue masking no matter what. That's fine. Just leave me out of it. My story about the kid in center field is just to highlight the mental impact. Billy can do whatever he wants. I just find it sad, and an indication of the larger problem that all the people chanting "it's just a mask, what's the big deal???" aren't understanding. Billy is wearing a mask because he's developed an irrational fear. Nothing I can do about it at this point, except advocate for lifting of the mandates so more kids don't think they need a mask... while outside.... and while double vaccinated.... and while healthy with no underlying conditions. For the people wearing cloth or surgical masks that still think it offers them protection, I actually like it. It let's me know right away that they're really stupid. Goes with the "...here's your sign" skit. So I'm oddly in favor of that sort of self identification continuing.2 points

Shocked people don't see why these platforms need to be manned. Have you heard of China and their capabilities?1 point

Also, if money is your primary concern, remember that *no one* makes the big bucks working for the man (except actors and athletes). If you're motivated and intelligent enough to make it in the business world, you're almost certainly capable of running a business yourself. The time required to get to the executive level is usually longer than the time to start making good money being the founder. Obviously the risk is much higher too1 point

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/02/10/trump-records-classified/ “Some Trump records taken to Mar-a-Lago clearly marked as classified, including documents at ‘top secret’ level” I look forward to a robust condemnation from my single-issue voters who passionately care about the Presidential Records Act, document retention and classified storage 🤣 I keed…but only a little bit. Committing crimes is bad and folks should really try to avoid that.1 point

I wouldn’t do any of those things, and I’m against mandates. But who cares if someone wants to wear a mask on their own? I saw it all the time in Japan pre-pandemic and no one cared. I don’t understand the rage it causes. Just like I don’t understand the rage not wearing a mask causes. Why can’t people just do what they want?1 point

While ridiculous, it's no more ridiculous than the people I see on a daily basis wearing masks outside by themselves. My favorite is the people riding bikes or, ...I saw this a couple weeks ago...., SKIING while wearing a surgical mask. --"Tell me you have a mental disorder without telling me you have a mental disorder." It's no more ridiculous than the kid I saw at my son's baseball game two nights ago wearing an N95 while playing CENTER FIELD. His dad said he wished his son would take off his mask, at least outside, but that "he doesn't feel safe without his mask." Holy $hit. It's no more ridiculous than my kids still being mandated to wear cloth masks all day in school, when the CDC has finally admitted (what anyone with a brain knew all along) that cloth masks do nothing. No. There is no chance that any fighter pilot went through the verbal diarrhea in the the 6-9 seconds of the mishap. This is not a political statement. They may have very well had side effects from the vaccine, but this rumor is just stupid. There's simply not enough time to say all of that, nor would any real fighter pilot waste the brain bytes whilst crashing and trying not to die. Don't be an idiot. And if you are a professional military aviator, you should know better than to float bullshit rumors and speculate during an active mishap investigation. That's a foul.1 point

Grinder, BTW, is a good shit and tremendous fighter pilot. She would throat punch you and stomp on your dick for adding her photo to this joke.1 point

Come on guys. Be better than this. Wild speculation about an aviation mishap involving our brothers and sisters is a shitty thing to do anytime. But it's especially shitty to co-opt that mishap to bolster your preexisting political biases. Aviators in the room, ask yourself this: Are these sources credible in any way? Does that quote sound like anything you've ever heard on safety privileged mishap tapes before? Of course not. Because no one blurts out verbose political/vaccine statements seconds before they eject from an airplane.1 point

It’s incredible that thing just slid down the LA and off the front of the angle without touching anything. Holy shit that deck was full and it could have been an absolute disaster.1 point

I'll front end load with the fact that you probably can't go wrong. This career, especially when treated as part time, eclipses almost every job out there. That said, consider the following. I have little confidence AA will expand PHX. It is a company helmed by low rent bean counters; they'll trip over a pile of gold doubloons to pick up wooden nickels. An example: How long has the hiring/retirement wave been discussed? Should it have caught anyone by surprise? Well, it caught AA management off their guard, and they shut down their Phoenix training facility despite having the data. That place would be worth its weight in platinum right now. If you pick PHX and want to do any other flying at AA you will have to commute. Captain upgrade, widebody, anything other than A320, those will all force you to another base. I would not put money on AA getting a new contract in under 24 months. I know very little on the topic, but AA is supposed to be getting new scheduling/trip trading software that's allegedly worse than what they have now. Hopefully someone else can speak intelligently to it. If you want fly out of PHX be warned: America West produced some of the worst pilots I've had the displeasure of flying with. By the same token, I've sat in the jumpseat with SWA many times, and they almost always seem reasonably competent. Retirements matter most if the seniority list doesn't shrink. AA won't be able to do any growth hiring for some time due to the fact the seniority list shrank a great deal during covid. Management is trying to get everyone excited about all the pilots that are getting recruited; however, all those people for the next 18 months will barely cover what the company is making up for since spring 2020. That's the worst of it for AA. The plus side is meteoric seniority movement, good overnights, easy flying, and a great job overall if you don't let yourself get caught up in the bullshit. SWA is hiring for growth; that can get you stuck at the bottom of the seniority list for a long time. SWA is not the same company Herb founded. Hopefully they can hang onto what's left of their culture. SWA typically has much better scheduling flexibility. Why mention all of this? Because despite how tremendous it is to get paid to fly jets, no matter where you end up, the above statements (along with more creative complaints) will be brought up CONSTANTLY on the flight deck. Then you'll start to second guess your choice of carrier; do yourself a favor: Don't. Bloom where you're planted; enjoy your days off and live your best life.1 point

I heard he flew a SHB so fast that he wound up in 1941 fighting Japanese Zeroes... then when he returned to the present, he was already slow and at idle and couldn't recover. (Equally as plausible as someone filibustering on freq about vaccines during an ejection sequence)1 point

I believe in being fair and giving credit when it is due. Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi is now dead I am proud President Biden had the stones to send our young men and women into harms way to get him. Today we can all celebrate that an evil son of a bitch no longer walks the earth. Murica!1 point

Thread creep, but we had a U-2 guy that said if he was in a plane going down and knew he couldn't get out, he would unstrap... and right before impact he would shove his pencil right up his ass. Why? To give the AF accident board something to think about.1 point

Was executing a weapons test a long time ago, we were enroute to Pt Mugu range. OPSEC had us refer to the weapon as the “device” and it had to be powered up a bit prior to range entry to run BITs. We were with LA Center and they passed words from the control room over center freq: “C/S, LA Center, I have been asked to tell you to power on your device.” We joked about answering on VHF, “Center, C/S, copy message. Powering on device. May God have mercy on us all.”1 point

Utterly shameful, more shameful is our joke of a senior defense staff (Miley, Austin). Miley probably slow rolled the planning under Trump thinking Biden would reverse the decision. By the time Biden had the cognitive mindset to address Afghanistan it was too late for anyone to come up with a cogent contingency plan for NEO. Too busy focused on defending CRT and preferred pronouns.1 point

Except, you were literally just complaining about other people's independent decisions. "My favorite is the people riding bikes or, ...I saw this a couple weeks ago...., SKIING while wearing a surgical mask. " Like MCO said, people in Japan have been wearing masks in public long before covid. You're complaining about mandates - yet you seem to feel pretty strongly about what choices other people make for themselves. Odd.0 points

Co soldering the only PLAT video made public is one with what seems to be a movie playing in the background and only includes the very tail end of the crash and the Carrier folks yelling to pull up.... yes, there’s still a chance. I’m open to both possibilities. Some of you like to just toe the gubment line and be told what to think.-1 points
