Honestly, I hope the Ukranians have some who hunker down and let the heavy stuff pass and make sure their mission in life is to kill these and anything like them.

Our “influence” has not been positive in many of those locations. Our history, especially our recent history in Afghanistan, should give you serious pause before committing to action. Here’s my actual opinion since it appears you want that: we the people are owed a debate about this topic in Congress before embarking upon a course we cannot change. I may or may not agree with your statements above, I don’t know because I lack a sufficient grasp of the facts. And we’ve been doing this a lot lately: rushing haphazardly from one decision to another without stopping, fact gathering, fact checking and thinking. It’s not working out great, and I propose a more methodical approach to serious issues.

CDC intentionally withholding COVAX data. I’m so confused why this would be. I thought vaccine efficacy and booster necessity was settled science. If there’s one thing I’m 100% certain of because I’ve been told by the establishment, it’s these vaccines are safe and effective. True you still get C19 after taking the vaccine even though they told us we wouldn’t, but I’m faithful the symptoms are more mild for vaccinated individuals. Given all that, why aren’t the experts being completely forthright with all the data collected? I want to prove these anti-vax science deniers wrong; if the CDC could be more open I’m sure it would reinforce their messaging.

Those opportunities I listed are available to many (though may be restricted by where you live), regardless of the applicant's race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. Including the poor white demographic you mention. Why should you care if a special interest/minority group wants to fund a scholarship or grant for their community? It doesn't take away opportunities for the majority of people, especially when we're talking into to flying and breaking into the aviation career field.

Well, I can see us going down a rabbit hole with this one, but I think we can all agree in general that people of color have had less professional opportunities than your average white dude. I am a white dude and I can acknowledge that. I can go into a decertation as to why this has been and will continue to be an issue in this country until things significantly change (on both sides of the fence), but I will say that I think a lot of people in these groups are in this predicament because of the way your average white dude has treated them, because of the way your average white dude has dominated how the legal system operates and how your average white dude could care less about cleaning up areas of poverty predominantly occupied by people of color. I acknowledge that poverty has no color, but you can't tell me that your average white household living below the poverty line has generations upon generations of family members who've been discriminated upon and who've dealt with the social injustices of other minorities. Just my .02.

This^^ Near Zero effort for qual’d military to get picked up right now. I had no interview prep, no digital logbook, no resume check, no internal airline recs, 1x letter of rec from my buddy who isn’t an airline pilot and still got called 7 mos from availability date.

Unfortunately Putin is banking on that kind of thinking. I agree with not intervening directly as well, but the US is in a viscous circle of short term thinking. The idea of not wanting to punish the Russian regime for this economically just because we will all feel some pain in our wallets and may have to wait an extra year before we buy that new car, reflects our weak resolve as a nation, and that we really have lost what being American is really about. It isn't about baseball, F150s and BBQs. What would the WW2 generation say about total inaction? I think they'd be disappointed and ashamed. A generation of people, a lot of which whose lives were ruined in the defense of the free world, and this is how we act? By saying who cares/not my problem? I think there is a large argument to be made that this is a tipping point. If NATO has been expanding eastward, well than that is it's destiny. Why should we let him reverse that course potentiality without paying a hefty consequence? Agree. To bad we failed them when they asked for help. No modern air defenses from US, and Israel wouldn't sell them theirs either. The Russians have them so outgunned, which was their plan all along. Agree Putin has been impressive. It is our job to make sure at the end he looks like a fumbling fool.

I actually support Biden not intervening militarily…and I’m not a huge proponent of aggressive sanctions as that will also hurt us economically. What I suggest is that if the European nations feel threatened by this action, then they should do something about it…but they won’t. Germany doesn’t want the energy turned off, and a legitimate European response can’t happen/won’t be nearly as effective without Germany. Putin knows all this. This is what happens when you (ie Europe) become weak militarily and culturally. They value expensive social programs vs security. Just getting upset about something doesn’t mean much. China is watching as well. If Ukraine wants to make a stand militarily then they should do so. I think their best chance at receiving any legitimate support from the west is to fight. There’s something to be said with seeing your (supposed) ally taking heavy military/civilian losses defending their borders. That all being said, I’m not so confident Europe would provide that legitimate support, so Ukraine won’t do much…and it will be somewhat of a similar replay of 2014 in the Crimea. So once again…what Putin is done is impressive. He’s taking what he wants and without much conflict (so far). Not saying it’s good, right, or just, but impressive all the same.

So, what should our strategy be here? You say you are against direct military action (as am I), but without the threat of direct NATO involvement, Putin is going to do what Putin does. Not sure there are many good options here. Sanctions & continued material support to Ukraine are about all that’s on the table short of full scale war. Let’s be clear here; this is taking place because Putin has an extreme hard on for Ukraine & the former Soviet empire. The blame rests solely with him. Also, I’m curious who you think is a “war hawk” here? I don’t recall a single poster advocating for direct military action against Russia. What many of us DO want is for the autocratic regime in Moscow to be held to account for its actions and not simply be given a pass.

As I’ve been saying all along…Putin is playing Biden and Europe like a fiddle. It’s actually pretty impressive. And to the progressives and war-hawks on here, this isn’t a pro-Russia statement, rather just looking at the situation objectively and without emotion.

I’ve heard good things about AMVETS (father-in-law/Vietnam vet recommended them). I know they’re a VSO, but I’d hope better than what you experienced with DAV.

Worked on KC-135R 57-1440 MPRS last night doing an oxygen purge, it just got out of the paint barn at PDM. MPRS birds are road hard and put up wet. Of course, this one will go back to McConnell to be flown hard with no TLC ever given. Lucifers Chariot is an old Looking Glass EC-135 that was converted into a sniffer. Those engines are TF33P102A's, they were already used up because all the 102's came off high time retired airliner B707's along with the nacelles. The only 135's that came off the assembly lines with TF-33's were the C-135B's and some of them became Rivet Joints. The two recently retired OC-135B's were the last of the TF33P5's powered C-135B's, the rest now have the CFM-56.

The pilot flying the first flight of the X-59 is a friend and former U-2 pilot. I plan to go down there for that first flight. "First flights" are pretty rare these days, compared to 70 years ago. From what he can tell me about the aircraft and the research leading up to it, it's very interesting. NASA also used a YO-3A and TG-14 for a lot of the data gathering. It's neat stuff.

Of course it’s factually correct, but there is little substance beyond that. Your point that Ukraine doesn’t perfectly mirror our nation is no argument that they are not worth protecting or bringing democracy to. Other nations that weren’t American style democracies: Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Lebanon, Cuba, Cambodia, Grenada, Libya, Panama, Iraq, Kuwait, Somalia, Bosnia, Serbia, Afghanistan, Yemen, Pakistan, Syria. Love it or hate it, engaging in the world for the last 70 years is what allowed us such an influence on it. What on earth is the justification to only protect democracies? We get to choose how to exert influence. It is our choice to expand and protect the free world and our sphere of influence or to allow functional autocrats like Putin and Xi to do it. It’s not easy to do that. Here’s an actual opinion. We should have peacekeeping troops protecting Kyiv and Southern Ukraine right now. It’s a question of whether we want to allow this behavior or not. There may be justification, no matter how shitty, for Russia to attempt reunification of the Eastern sects. Fine, whatever. There is no justification or for further aggression other than “we want a land bridge to Crimea and we will take what we want because we can threaten you with nukes and the US isn’t going to do anything about it.”
