I can think of at least two DFCs that were laughable, but were absolutely ramrodded through for PA reasons. That said, neither are on the individual, they didn’t do anything poorly or wrong, just were used as a pawn in some politicized PA game. Also loved seeing command chiefs get bronze stars (who did nothing besides push queep inside the wire), meanwhile JTAC bros in the shit weren’t given squat because “well they weren’t here for a year like chief X”…go fuck yourself awards system.11 points

It irks me to no end about the “just normal ops” line when looking at awarding medals to folks. By that logic, there should never be a medal awarded for any action short of self-sacrifice. Sal Giunta was just doing his job as an infantry NCO. Leo Thorsness just supported a rescue (that was unsuccessful and got an A-1 shot down). Tom Norris helped rescue some downed aircrew in a riverine environment well within a SEALs “normal ops”. Thomas Payne helped the core activity of Delta by doing a hostage rescue…pretty “normal ops”. See how monumentally stupid that sounds? I’m not saying the actions from various aircrew at HKIA are MOH worthy. What I am saying is that there was some serious gallantry, skill, bravery, and perseverance to make things happen. That deserves to be honored officially in the form of medal awards. I’ve got no connection to the C-17 community beyond riding as a pax a few times, but seeing what those guys did made me incredibly proud to be in the Air Force. Same goes for the Army helo guys, the Marines at the gates, etc. Massively proud of all these folks and their execution of “normal ops”.2 points

That’s unfortunate, the Army did awesome work and helped prevent a true calamity. I’m sure it looked bad on the news, it was absolutely insane on the ground and there was a period where things could have gone either way as Taliban C2 decided how to play their victory. Ultimately they determined a tentative truce was in their interest, but their decision not to escalate was based on heroic actions by several military members between 14-17 Aug. Multiple Tb infantry attempted to mix it up. The AH-64 pilots displayed bravery, and I sincerely hope they are recognized for it.2 points

I didn’t. And I just tried. But I stopped after I read the word equity twice. It’s amazing how racism is passed off as furthering our military. Equity isn’t equal. It’s pushing some people with certain identifiers down to forcibly push others with different identifiers up regardless of the effects on the system or actual effectiveness of the system. Which means it’s racist.2 points

Possible, but I doubt it. If you look close at the end there’s about 6-9 Russian pigs with Russian uniforms/weapons getting snuffed out. Seems lately like the Russians are barely trying to justify their actions; I don’t think the “de-Nazify” horseshit is getting traction with anyone.1 point

Aircrew’ll be fine. There’s gonna be some backlash from a good chunk of the FAs though (if this sticks). I never minded them enforcing the mandate (decision was made above their paygrade) but holy shit some of them got pretty over-zealous about it. Won’t miss some of the preflight spiels about masking between sips, bites, etc.1 point

I’ve seen masks come back and forth 6-9 times at CONUS bases since Covid started. Utter clown show. At an unnamed base in Texas, there was a policy that you couldn’t go TDY if you weren’t boosted. That quickly got squashed. As for the airline mask mandate, TSA works for Biden, most of his supporters are huge fans of mask mandates. In some weird way many feel that they are doing some philanthropic good by forcing everyone to wear the cloth on the plane and public places. Probably the same people that wear it outside or alone in their car, you know, the ones that have it on for their Facebook picture.1 point

There was discussions awhile back about pulling old S-3 Vikings out of the boneyard and turning them into an Armed Overwatch Concept. Obviously nothing came of that.1 point

AOW is a different animal form Lite Attack and while I love the Scorpion Jet for the Lite Attack Role, it does not fit with the AOW construct...neither would Viking. AOW is about expeditionary operations and while the jets have long endurance, they will never operate off a dirt strip. Sky Warden is NOT Archangel or Thrush...the mission systems and weapons collapse the stack into a single entity that can fly 10 hour missions off the dirt with very deep magazines and three sensors. Will be see how this plays out, the funding was in the 2023 budget so they are going to buy something.1 point

I think a lot of clickbait articles like this are AI written now and just grab feeder info from social media and patchwork sentences together about the general topic. You can tell because the tone of the article is completely different than what the tone should be about a tragedy/travesty like this.1 point

Having relieved the rest of that unit in Iraq, the general attitude by everyone who wasn’t there was one of, “And…?” Seriously, the Battalion Commander seemed to completely dismiss it as any sort of heroic action or show of exemplary performance. If your own boss is barely your advocate, good luck getting anything justified and through the F’d up rewards system that is the status quo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I tried again. Made it to page 7. “Equity” everywhere. Listen, if you are on purpose making systems to hold people back, then that isn’t fair for all. A system where the best of the best are taken and improved upon and allows for each individuals natural talent to shine and have an impact on the whole system is where fairness and the whole system is better for it. I’m all for having programs in communities where lees opportunities are as an example, but when you take that and morph it into a system that pushes those ahead of more qualified and experienced others to a detriment of the system then what would you call that?1 point

I kinda have to agree with them. There shouldn’t be a league based off performance. It should be strictly based off arbitrary percentages of made up identifiers that have nothing to do with football. Start with just one team and let the rest do their thing. You’ll see that one team will be amazing because of its arbitrary diversity.1 point

Problem is it's now well established that the CDC withheld data from analysis. Complaining that the people are poorly informed while ensuring they remained poorly informed. There's only one reason you do that... To perpetuate a lie.1 point
