  1. The Russians continue to take HEAVY losses in both personnel and equipment. As the fight in the east intensifies it was expected the Russians would hold a great advantage due to the flat terrain and expected maneuver/combined arms warfare. From this video near Donetsk, that is not working out for them thanks to anti-armor weapons like Javelin and some very savvy RPA/Artillery coordination by the Ukrainians. The Russians seem incompetent but I hope that is not the take away from our folks in DoD who are no doubt soaking up every tron and lesson learned.

  2. ^^ I for one am someone who does not agree with what seems to be the forthcoming decision to overturn Roe and Casey, but I do not condone protesting outside Kavanaugh’s house. Folks should have a reasonable right to privacy in their own homes and I also think it’s counterproductive in almost all cases. If I were to protest, it would be outside the Court itself. I agree with the following: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/05/09/stop-protesting-outside-supreme-court-justice-houses/

  6. You joke, but let’s not forget that planned parenthood initially started out as a means to keep the birth rate of African American babies low (utterly inhumane). China and India both use abortion to limit female offsprings for various reasons (India culturally due to dowry burdens).

  8. Here's a few from back in the day (mid to late 80s timeframe): ANG C-5 crew makes unscheduled stop in New England to take on a few crates of lobsters handed to them from a truck at EOR. Lobsters no big deal had the stop been scheduled, but making an impulsive lobster run on the fly (so-to-speak) is what got them in trouble. Another ANG C-130 crew loaded a 15-pax van and followed their local NBA team around the country during the playoffs. Unconfirmed but was told a USAFE based -130 crew was doing an unauthorized ferry of a classic 57ish Chevy from Turkey to England. Customs and home station USAFE folks were waiting on the ramp to fry the crew upon arrival. Someone at home squadron alerts crew via secure comms. Chevy pushed out back of the Herk and now sleeps with the fishes at the bottom of the Med. A classic "we know what you did but can't prove anything situation".

  10. For those of you who care to hear an analysis of the actual court case that led to our current state, as well as an unpacking of the draft decision, this quick podcast does a good job covering some decent ground quickly and to the point. The two gentlemen are highly regarded law professors. It's focus is on the legal case in and of itself - it generally steers clear of the political issues that surround the case. I even learned some history I didn't know before. It's from a conservative bent, so be forewarned. https://www.hoover.org/research/law-talk-leak-heard-round-world

  11. Oh it’s been researched. Literally hired under the program then as the package was being routed, a 2 star that doesn’t think retirees should be hired has staff stop the packages before they ever got to the approval authority. One guy hired was so sure it’d happen that he didn’t even have a retirement ceremony or fini flight. And today I just heard how bad my base/airframe are hurting for IPs. UFB

  12. Which came first, the oologist or the ornithologist?

  13. I have always said that a good day is learning something new and I have never heard of an oologist. Interesting. So, does this mean that the question "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" can have a corollary question, "Which came first, the omelet or the chef?"

  14. The advice I’ve heard from pilots at meet-and-greets is that it won’t necessarily win you an interview, but you can certainly lose one there (be respectful to everyone you meet, don’t get blackout drunk, etc.). Also, you go not necessarily just to try and leave an impression but also to get a feel for if the unit fits what *you’re* looking for. I’ve heard from multiple squadrons I’ve visited that you’re feeling them out while there, too. My 2 cents? If you’ve got the time and funds, and especially if it’s a squadron you’re really high on, go. Simply passing the bro check and having folks instantly put a face/convo with name can only help! And nothing from the 77th here yet…hopefully we’ll all get some good news soon, though!

  16. Guys I think I figured it out. Here's how you get consensus on the abortion issue. Conservatives ask yourself two questions: Q1: who predominantly is getting abortions? Answer: liberals Q2: what political affiliation would that baby likely have grown up to be? Answer: liberal So basically just pitch abortion as a super early stage voter suppression scheme. #abortthelibs

  19. I would argue that you could add the current protest at SCOTUS justice homes onto that list since I recently learned it is actually against federal law to protest outside the home of a justice deciding a case. (Considered judicial intimidation, same as jury intimidation) I said I wouldn't wade into a Roe v Wade discussion but I am baffled by the tolerance and even encouragement of this behavior.

  23. Have two kids in their 20's now, we lost another two to miscarriage, when we were dating, we had a surprise, she told me and told her not to worry. I had already made up my mind that she was the one before that happened. When I deployed later, she aborted it, don't feel right calling it an it. She told me that she didn't want it to be the reason I married her. What I felt the most was guilt, my actions of carnal lust caused her to be put her into a position to make such a choice. Later in life I watched this news story about a little boy who fell through ice, they got him out but was declared dead. But later he later he showed life and fully recovered. He was talking to his parents about when he was dead he met his grandfather who died before he was born, he also talked about his sister who died in miscarriage before he was conceived. She told him her name and her soul will grow with age as if she was born and matured. His parents never told him before the accident about her so he had no knowledge before. That would make a believer out of me but it gave me hope, maybe when it's my time the first one plus the other two miscarriages will be there and I can beg for forgiveness for being selfish in my actions. I judge this whole argument on my feelings as one affected by it, just like suicide it is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. When women do this don't tell me it doesn't effect them mentally unless they are total sociopath . I believe most fathers are not even told. Everyone is different but I can't get around the guilt I feel, I wonder what have could have been good or bad.

  24. Yup, there it is. Thanks for the point out, I remember complaining about that during my last round of stan/eval testing and then forgot due to old age and 20+ years of referencing an 11-217. I also found a briefing from AFFSA that describes how I feel. I’m the short guy in the picture.

  25. The focus is just interesting aviation stories for military? If you’re in Pensacola and reaching beyond the Navy, there’s plenty of Hurlburt and Eglin based USAF folks with great stories. I know a couple active on this board and some others that aren’t that have all kinds. Good luck!

  28. Timing is everything. It needs to be in place far enough in advance of the election to be useful. Elections, after all, are a stated primary target of this board. This way, if both houses swing hard right, the administration will have a tool to undermine faith in the legitimacy of those newly elected senators and representatives. Especially if they start treating the President with the same courtesy that was shown to the last one.

  29. While I don't lay all of the blame for our current situation at the feet of the Biden Administration, I think four big factors would have been very different had Trump won the election. Energy costs - Whatever you think about pipelines and the actual utility of the Keystone Pipeline, the Biden administration launched multiple executive orders at the energy industry which have most certainly impacted the price and availability of oil. The narratives are all over the place but when you attack pipelines, refineries and drilling, you are going to impact the price of oil. The administration is attempting to spin many of these issues like the 9,000 unused leases on federal land without admitting they are holding up many of those leases through lawsuits. Both sides are guilty and there are other factors like Putin going into Ukraine but ultimately Biden's policy has caused the price of oil to nearly doubled since he took office and most of that run up occurred well before Russia launched their attack. Continuing stimulus - Obviously we needed stimulus and support during a pandemic, but Biden continued to dump gasoline on what most knew was a raging fire. $1.9T in relief and payments kept people out of the workforce WAY longer than was needed. All that extra cash without workers available to produce goods caused a huge bubble of demand to surge through the economy. While the supply chain issues are not entirely Biden's fault, some of that blame does fall on the DNC and their unions, just look at the situation at the Long Beach Port. Crane operators making $250,000 a year refusing to work overtime in an emergency, refusing to allow non-union workers to help in an emergency and refusing to surge the port to 24 hour a day operations. I honestly think Trump would have federalized that operation, at least temporarily. I hope we learned our lesson on this one. COVID Lockdown Policy - Biden and his Uber left folks kept things closed WAY too long. The implications have had second and third order effects all across the economy. Fed Policy - While the Fed is meant to be an independent body they do seem to follow the lead of the President. They certainly did under Trump. The Fed COMPLETELY missed the boat on interest rates. They should have been slowly raising rates a year ago but they waited on perception of Biden and partially in response surging energy prices. Now that they are late to the game they are trying to fix everything all at once. When you signal four consecutive 50 basis point raises, the possibility of a 75 point basis raise, openly say interest rates should equal or exceed inflation and out right say the interest rate raises should be "front loaded", you again crush the economy. Most people don't realize the impact of increasing interest rates. Look at the report released today showing 1.4% GDP contraction, if you dig into the numbers you will see a decrease in home sales of over 1.5%. That will further crush the economy as fewer people buy appliances, building materials and other home upgrades. As my wealth advisor put it yesterday, they are going from creating inflation to completely putting out any fire related to the economy. As a frame of reference the U.S. Economy went from 6.9% in Q4 2021 to -1.4% in Q1 2022.

  30. You need to get out more. We are all products of our life’s experiences. My personal views are shaped by a few things. I did get my daughter’s mom pregnant when we were dating. She considered getting an abortion. I was living through the worst part of my life when that happened. Raising her was really hard in the beginning and it took a lot of sacrifices. We got through it. She’s 23 and is the light of my life. I dated a girl once who had an abortion before she met me. She was emotionally ruined by the experience. She regretted that decision to her core. My buddy and his wife had their daughter at 24 weeks. His wife had preeclampsia. Their daughter turns 7 this weekend. She’s a happy and healthy child. The medical community is making incredible progress towards helping women with medical issues while they are pregnant. There are answers to problems we encounter in life whether they are self induced or not. I don’t believe killing our children is the answer.
