Top Gun: Totally unrealistic...stole an F-14A and never once had a compressor stall with those shit-tastic TF30 engines. Sheesh...hack writers. Also, was waiting for a Star Wars reference with their bombing run. Also, also...best sequel I've seen in a long time. Would recommend.3 points

I don’t. The only thing that reminded me was that individual and this story talked about EFMP for a kid and how that caused problems for his career. And it was about how he wanted gunships but got “this piece of shit” lol. Then went on to just go off about the community etc. Unfortunate scenario of getting caught up in emotions and realizing he didn’t have what it took to be flying something requiring one engine and two massive balls.2 points

Just like many other recent “retractions”…kinda getting tired, and worried frankly, that POTUS can’t/won’t stay on script. A slip of the tongue at the wrong time could have disastrous global effects.2 points

well...thanks for that nerdgasm from Random Guy. I'm sure you're entirely correct. AAAANYWAY, HeyEng, thanks for posting that video. It brings up a lot of compelling perspectives and information that I'll be mulling over for a while.2 points

About 30 min into top gun I thought it was going to end up overhyped but damn, the end was awesome. Great flying scenes throughout. My wife, 9yr old daughter and 12yr old son all really liked it. Def see it in theater preferably a imax or Dolby.2 points

Out of curiosity, are you the guy that got U-28’s and went on a Facebook tirade about how shitty that community is?2 points

Something else interesting about the one child policy in China is it has been correlated with a huge uptick in crime and civil unrest. Turns out when you have a shit ton of men in a population without a sexual partner, they tend to get restless and express their frustrations other ways.1 point

Doing the mission does not matter. Having thousands of combat hours and dozens of air medals does not matter. Risking your life does not matter. Killing the enemy does not matter. The Air Force does not promote pilots for doing pilot things. The Air Force promotes pilots for doing things that they could hire people for minimum wage to do.1 point

And we also know there won't be any debates. No surprise, Joe doesn't do contemporaneous.1 point

Peter Zeihan also did a briefing for the MWFC at Fort Benning which shows some sort of interest in military circles of his ideas. One thing he failed to mention in the that presentation (he did sort of allude to it indirectly) is that in addition to loosing a pool of a nations production age population (ages around 20-50 depending on country), a country also faces a shrinking pool of military age adults (ages 18-40). The US has a birth rate of about 1.7 (the birth rate needs to be 2.1 for replacement value) so for the time being we still have a sustainable pool of military age adults, but countries like S. Korea are struggling to recruit enough troops currently and will face difficulty in the near future (probably N. Korea as well but who knows). China’s years of their “one child” policy (which they have abandoned) has really screwed with their demographic makeup resulting in the world’s fastest aging population. Peter claims by 2050 China will have half the population that they have today!1 point

Heads up to all thinking of retiring and joining the reserves: the current 10 AF CC 2-star is throwing a wrench in plans. No reason given, but as of now the packages are being stopped from even reaching the approval authority because the 2-star in non-concurring (again no reason given). One guy was hired so after 20+ yrs his last flight was a full up checkride and he didn’t do a retirement ceremony because he’d save it for his last reserve flight….now he’s being told no by the 2-star, no reason given to the hiring unit leadership. So TR soots are going unfilled l, USAF mussing out on cheap experienced labor. Another great example of our management in action,1 point

That article reads like it was written by Chinese AI then run back and forth through Google Translate a few times. To comment on the content, the biggest factor in winning a conflict is the motivation of the population and its military to fight. Motivation attracts better people, makes them train harder to develop and refine tactics, and increases budget and technology inputs from the population. There’s no way the PRC population is as motivated to conquer Taiwan as the ROC population is to defend it. Even if the PRC were able to initially get some false motivation from propaganda, it would quickly become unraveled as the conflict drug on. The PRC has known this for the last 60 years - which is why they’ve never attacked - and the Russian-Ukraine conflict has only reinforced that perception.1 point

Maverick. Probably the best movie Tom Cruise has ever done. And I watched the original a few nights ago so it was fresh. Really nice air work too.1 point

A few years ago when they were having probe issues with the HH-60 I tried to preflight the probe when one wasn't installed. "Hey chief, I'm not getting an unlock light"...."Uh, sir there is no probe installed"1 point
