  1. I think that misses the mark for most people. I really have no problem with what personal choices people make in the bedroom, nor with how they choose to party. I am, however, weary of the requirement for the masses to celebrate everyone and everything. It’s not just a “pride” thing - it’s a much larger toxic narcissism that is endemic to our society.

  2. Idk if you realize it but putting words in other people’s mouths, namely frog’s, is exactly what is done in the second sentence. Anecdotal evidence of hatred for LGBT ppl being applied to anyone that doesn’t fully support LGBT events happens constantly. I’ve heard it, I’ve seen it. There’s a large number of ppl in the AF that believe gay ppl should be protected under the constitution and afforded the same rights as everyone else. They’re just sick of being told if they’re not signing up to be an ally then they’re the problem.

  3. Nailed it. I was thinking the same as your second paragraph reading your first. I have a relative who is an admissions counselor and they have annual training to "deal with veterans". She has explained some of the training and its very disheartening. Basically walk on egg shells around them because they could explode at any moment and offer accomadations above and beyond anything offered to "normies". Like you said, could be a guy who didn't complete basic training or follow on training. And the shitbags amomgst the veteran community will be the first to demand accomadations and adulations that the majority of veterans want nothing to do with.

  4. Agree 100% but let’s not forget that, for the most part, the boomers have been equally ignorant and obtuse. The ultimate “me” generation’s attitude of “I got mine” has laid landmines for successive generations throughout their time in power. Is it any wonder that the millennials and younger gens feel disillusioned and shafted? Why should they care if they’ve been more or less shut out of participating in the economy and politics anyway? If we want them to look up from their phones and off of mom’s couch, we need to listen to their issues and take them seriously. Instead, they watch us fight over petty cultural issues and shake their heads as their future slides further and further out of reach.

  5. The video subject is proper pronouns for trans and gender fluid menstruating people, I cannot believe you would be such a myopic sexist as to assume the video is about gays. You are old and trapped in the early 2000s structure of thinking about the queer experience. Get out of the way dinosaur, let a new generation spread their wings.. and you better get the terminology right; not their responsibility to make you feel good about your misgendering mistakes. In fact the term “misgender” is outdated, it presumes gender exists rather than being an imaginary social construct. /s For real though: be as crazy as you want to be, it’s a free country (for now). And I am free not to join your deluded make-believe world. I will call people he or she as applicable. The video is not about gay people, and it’s hilarious you assumed it was.

  6. @nsplayr What’s interesting is every gay friend I have absolutely cringe at the “pride movement/celebration” in its current form. It disgusts them. They, as a group, sought out years ago to have the same rights as others, namely marriage (and the legal, tax, etc. implications that went along with it). It wasn’t about “water boarding” society in gay pride. In fact, their views today are very in line with many espoused above…you do you, let me do me, and we can coexist without giving a shit about each other’s private lives. Sounds good to me, but attempt to shove your personal lifestyle choice down mine or my kid’s throat? Yeah go fuck yourself (that’s a general GFY, not directed at you personally). With the shit that’s in schools these days, maybe all the hetero people should start replacing those window sticker families with silhouettes of dudes banging chicks, you know, to show their hetero pride. Don’t like it and fully support it, than you’re a POS bigot! In reality I would not support that one iota more than I support this current pride bullshit. Your sexuality should not define you, nor should it be plastered all over in public, whether you bang chicks, dudes, or trees.

  7. I’m very curious if anyone who wrote these requirements actually knows a damn thing about aviation. Anyone meeting these requirements is gonna be eligible for the R-ATP at 1000 hours, coming out of a university 141 program. They’re gonna go right to a regional, do three years with 1000 turbine PIC and then get picked up at a major. At the same time, our erstwhile “CAIPs” will have just now begun actually instructing in the T-6, while their college bro is an FO at Delta or Southwest or FedEx.

  8. Wow. Who wouldn't sign up for starting out as GS-7 with an 8 year commitment at Del Rio? Especially young CFIs in the current aviation job market? As expected, USAF screws up a potentially successful venture.

  9. The Veterans Parking spots at Lowes and Home Depot are dumb. We’re not all handicapped with PTSD, and even if we were, when offered the luxury most of us are the types to automatically refuse the help anyway. I saw the instructions for applying a military discount at HD once, it says to most importantly “ensure you thank the member for their service.” Dude could be a CMOH winner or awaiting NJP, and the cashier is required by company policy to pander to them because of an attribute. Just like the gate agent lets you board before the families, or the commissary makes old ladies wait for uniformed personnel. Nah, I’ll wait my turn. I imagine many gay people feel the same way about Pride Month when they see dudes slinging dong in public during the small town parade. FFS, just act normal and get on with it.

  10. This reminds me of the pilot only track AMC experimented with a few years ago. Came with a mandatory ADSC taking you to 20 years of service. 1 applicant…one! It is clear to me the Air Force isn’t nor has ever been serious about the pilot retention crisis. “Good enough” and optics seems to drive most staffs these days. The Chinese are laughing at us, the Russians would be too if they weren’t so inept at actually waging conventional war.

  12. Why does it take a current civilian CFII 3 years of training to become a T-6 instructor but a FAIP can be made in, what, 18 months? A bunch of morons must have written the requirements for this...same with anyone who signs up. If you wanna fly T-6s that bad just, IDK, join the Air Force!

  16. Sorry to hear that, man. I was told in the phone interview that even if not selected we may not get a TBNT since they had so many applicants. So I think if you got one you may have been toward the top at least which means there's a strong case that with some more improvements to your packet you'd have a good shot at moving further next year/whenever their UPT apps open again.

  17. That is a very toxic statement, in my opinion that certainly does not match the vast majority of this forum or folks in uniform. There will ALWAYS be outliers in any population distribution which sadly means a few bigots will get through the screening. That being said I think most people believe you should be allowed to be free and love who you want. The issue in my opinion is when you FORCE it down the throats (sts) of everyone. I liken it to other forced training...Airman snuffy in services got a DUI so we are going to lecture EVERYONE about DUIs before the long weekend. Or...There was a rape in one of the squadrons so rather than focus on holding that person accountable we are going to have a stand down and lecture everyone about sexual assault. Now we have the absolute lunacy in the video below. How about we focus on being warriors, lets have training on how to knock down the S400, get to the target, deliver ordinance and get EVERYONE home...that is inclusion training.

  19. This the the play…and the irony here is so sweet. Dropping mil on a GS job while accruing seniority at a major. Although no type rating, all flying time after initial qual is PIC/IP, in a mil aircraft selectable on every major airline app. All the USAF could say…”Thank you for your service”

  21. Pay back? Just get hired by a Guard unit and drop 7-8 years of mil leave on this job. Commissioning through MEST is all USERRA exempt. That alone is at least 5-6 years. Then you still have 5 years of USERRA time to burn through. Meanwhile, you gain your pay increases, steps, and really, after being gone for 10 years who’s going to remember you still have an 8 year commitment? (btw, I suspect there’s no such thing as a GS “commitment.” Military, yes. GS, no.)

  22. What they should have done was made it a pipeline to for the multiple people who want a commission and to fly, but maybe can't get there due to med stuff that makes them perhaps "not deployable". I've talked to a few in the pipeline who got picked up guard units but bounced in medical. A lot of these people get written off for stupid BS, talk about a loss to the AF. You could even make it pre-req that they have tried to commission/would be willing to accept one if offered? Here's one, how about they get to fly the T-6 as a civilian like a guard pilot but also must commissioned or enlisted in the guard doing something non flying. I would do a lot to get into the T-6 but this offer seems soft. Flying a Citabria above the beach and looking at the pretty girls may be the way to go to get to 1500.

  26. It this was his opinion that the war in Ukraine is NATO's fault, if so logic dictates Putin should have taken all the former Warsaw pact countries that border mother Russia. My own personal opinion this is a natural resource grab, oil, natural gas and the best farm land in Eurasia. Turkey should have helped Ukraine get in NATO which would have been beneficial for having a ally on the opposite coast of the Black Sea. It seems that anybody that didn't spend $100k plus on an education you look down upon, just like the abortion argument , no ovaries or uterus STFU. Let me know how far you go into life mistaking education for intelligence. I.E. the founders of Tesla, Space X and Microsoft, all dropped out of high end schools.

  27. Fair enough. Like I said, I would rather celebrate the accomplishments of a diverse group of service members rather than just their identities as this or that. I know some who hold genuinely anti-gay views and they are feeling emboldened to try to turn back the clock 20 years, strike down legal gay marriage, and send folks back into the closet if not worse. I would like to see them fail in those efforts and not be unknowingly helped by folks like yourself that might be anti-celebration or against highlighting different identities or whatever rather than truly anti-gay.

  28. I'm not super into debating politics around here anymore (haha), but to help fill in the gap of the other ~50% of the country tends to think compared to what you typically read on BO.net: Unemployment under Biden is down about 2.5% from when Trump left office, and is basically tied with the record low unemployment we saw under Trump in Jan 2020. More jobs is good! The strong allied response re: sanctions & war materials supporting Ukraine and opposing the Russian invasion. Going from 1.1% of the US population vaccinated against COVID to 67.4%. The vaccine development under Trump admin was a highlight for me and the distribution under Biden admin is similarly important. At this point everyone who wants one can get one and dying from COVID-19 is relatively optional for all but the most elderly and/or vulnerable. Almost forgot, but the bipartisan infrastructure bill was good and long-overdue. Biden actually got this done where several previous admins had talked about it and failed to get something across the line. Obviously there are counter-points to what I wrote above, different interpretations of what happened, and other prevailing factors that influenced those "successes" I mentioned. Copy, cool. I can understand why if you're a conservative you will never like a Dem administration much, fair point. No need to @ me and stir the pot on any of these points. I do think the GOP will win seats in Congress in 2022 and the WH in 2024, which is utterly predictable given Dem congressional control since 2018 and the Dem presidential win last time. It would be unusual to have 2x 1-term Presidents in a row but I guess we'll see. The advanced age of both Trump and Biden is a factor there I think & will be even more so an issue in 2024 if it's those two facing off again. I am a big proponent of an age ceiling (70?) so long as we accept an age floor of 25 for Congress and 35 for being President. Personally I'm rooting for DeSantis on the GOP side in a theoretical 2024 primary. I think he's the only one who might be able to be Trumpy enough to win but not actually be named Donald Trump. There are lots of Republicans I as a Democrat like better, but none of them can win, so I'll settle for him over Trump. I imagine some of y'all should have felt the same way about Biden vice someone like Sanders or Warren based on policies more than personalities. Policies aside, Trump's negative personal characteristics and opposition to a peaceful & lawful transfer of power after taking a valid electoral loss is disqualifying to me beyond any policy disagreements. IMHO Republicans can get all the policies of Trump with a more normal, less dangerous leader in DeSantis. DeSantis/Crenshaw or DeSantis/Haley or some such arrangement, the GOP has plenty of bench strength beyond one or two families. I'm curious to see if that matters at all or if what GOP primary voters really want is the Trump id or "vibes" as the kids say now and perhaps they don't care one lick about policies...after everything I'm more and more in that camp TBH.

  29. Just labeling your demonstrated behavior because any time anyone does make the argument that Putin’s being an imperialist asshole trying to erase Ukraine and re-start the Soviet Union, you just whitewash it with “NATO provoked this yada yada yada Putin was justified, trust me I’m an expert.” There’s no genuine room for discussion there, but nice try.

I'd like to see a complete, non-partisan review of Jan 6th, but it seems that's never going to happen, given the current political climate.

  38. Another well informed take that boils down an entirely flawed economic policy among all us government since 2001 into simplistic red vs blue. It’s everyone’s fault here. How much of gas prices are due to domestic economic policies dictated by the executive branch? Is the US President causing gas to be $6-9 across Europe as well? Oh wait this is global? That’s not good for my narrative or funny gas pump stickers. Or is there a potential that a war in Ukraine + restarting a global economy after a massive overreaction due to COVID + a literal cartel (OPEC) have a lot more to do with energy prices? Also, reminder that there are a surplus of drilling permits (about 10 years worth) available by the federal gov that are unused. What’s the policy you think that would solve this? https://money.usnews.com/money/personal-finance/spending/articles/a-look-at-gas-prices-around-the-world Second, how much of inflation is due to quantitative easing? Reminder that the Trump admin effectively printed and threw over $3T into the economy in 2020 to prop up the stock market. 2 of the 3 stimuluses came from GOP leadership, but giving that free socialism money to everyone probably had no effect on inflation. At least no effect we should talk about. The bottom line is that neoliberal economic policy, which both parties fully support, is driving us off a cliff. Unlimited economic growth in a limited society (actually approaching contracting) isn’t possible. It’s time to raise the interest rates to 6-9% and deal with our poor decisions we have made thinking we could avoid natural economic cycles. The real marker in failure economically was October 2019 when the government saw that quantitative tightening (the right call) made the stock market go down and abandoned all logic to maintain the illusion of a green DJIA. Then COVID happened and the whole of US government lost their collective minds.

  43. You're welcome to express opinions but when you can't comprehend the nuance and complexity of geopolitical matters expect people who do to call you out. If you don't comprehend the chain of events from the ascension of the Balkins to the current situation in Ukraine, then yes, I'm going to trust the PhD's opinion over yours, while you go back and do some more reading on an area and geopolitical theater you clearly know little about. I saw this "keep simping for Russia" bullshit before. Except it was 2003, Freedom Fries were on the House dining menu, and the academically illiterate like yourself were accusing a huge proportion of the country that was critical of the assertion there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq of being simps for Saddam Hussein. Today those people all look like assholes. Consider that for a moment in context of your biased Russophobia. If your heart bleeds for Ukraine, fine. Absolutely noone stopping you from volunteering for their foreign legion. By all means go. I'm not stopping you and really don't care.

  44. I know it's uncomfortable to admit, but some of y'all can just come out and say (sic), "I don't like gay people and don't want to see/hear/think about gay stuff." It's not a popular POV at this point in history, but you can just come out and say it. It's ok...this is a "safe space" 😆 I'll be fair to you vs just snarky and say point taken that perhaps some of our "celebration" months go a bit overboard on identity itself vs accomplishments of people of that identity. I agree. I don't care if you're gay and in the military, but if you're gay and did something worth celebrating while in uniform I'd love to hear about it and share that story. But overall, if people wanna fly flags and be proud of who they are or celebrate their heritage then by all means go for it! I do all of those things for my identities as an American, an Italian, an Irishman, and an active service member. Feel free to grill a hamburger, eat a spicy meatball, down a pint of Guinness and blow some shit up in July to celebrate with me! 🇺🇸 🇮🇹 🇮🇪🎖️
