People are allowed to have their own opinions, and you should be able to work and function within a society where people fundamentally disagree with you. Always amusing to watch liberals struggle grasping this fact: your opinions are no more valid than his. The law provides equal protection and nondiscrimination, and that is good. I agree with that. Beyond that, live and let live is what conservative say, but you guys (sorry, xe people) just can’t do it, can you? In your example above, you hope he does not lead any trans troops because he privately disagrees with the morality of the queer lifestyle. Do you also hope no trans commanders lead Muslim troops? Are gays incapable of leading Catholics? Ridiculous. I hope we can all lead and follow each other united by our love of America and dedication to the mission, and live and let live on personal items where we disagree. I don’t care if gay people put up pictures of their spouses or trans people tell me about the trans party they attended. Men have the right to call themselves women, but they do not have the right to compel my participation in their personal worldview, just as I do not have the right to impose my beliefs on them. People are allowed to have their own opinions in this country, as much as that irks you, and demanding ideological obedience with your opinions is fanaticism.6 points

@tac airlifter I mean sure, but would you want your boss/CC/professor to say (sic), "I have to temper myself big time to not verbally bash on men?" Or "blacks?" Or "jews?" Or "Italians?" Or "tacairlifters?" I believe that being gay is an immutable characteristic that deserves no more discrimination than skin color, ancestry, disability or gender. Obv some good-natured joking around on all these topics among friends is fine and I do it myself, but I would venture approx. 96.9% of us would agree it's not good to "verbally bash" black/asian/latino/white people, men/women, or jews/muslims/christians/hindus, especially when most of us are active or retired USAF officers or NCOs. I am fine with people disagreeing about choices made in life, including religious practices, sexual practices, lifestyle choices, etc., but again, disagreeing and "verbally bashing" is not the same thing. I disagree with honor killings; I would not "verbally bash" even a very conservative Muslim I might be talking to, supervising, teaching, etc. In the most favorable interpretation possible, my own religion teaches to love gay people and accept them but to condemn their out-of-wedlock & same-sex sexual choices. I disagree with that distinction and basically accept it all as fine, as do the majority of Catholics, but I am versed enough in the Catholic tradition to see the Church's POV that there is a difference between the sinner and the sin and that gay sex itself is a sin. I still go to mass and write checks each week despite that disagreement. However if a pastor started "verbally bashing" gay people from the alter, I'd walk out of that parish and never return. I think the big disconnect between where I'm at and maybe what @bfargin believes is a lot of folks who don't like gayness believe it's a choice and an immoral and/or disgusting one at that. I only need refer them to any gay person about when they "chose" to be gay, or to ask themselves when they "chose" to be straight. Every gay person I know says it's an immutable characteristic they were born with and many fought for years against actually admitting it even to themselves, and personally I can tell you I didn't "choose" to be straight, I just am. The fact that these debates are still being had in 2022 show just how young and fragile gay rights are, especially in light of what some other societies in the world still do to gay people who happen to be born there.5 points

That’s a very valid viewpoint and I don’t at all blame someone for having it. In fact, I subscribe to it within reason. The millennial problem manifests when they don’t want to work for “the man,” but then complain when they can’t buy a house, the car they want, fill in the blank. Well, either start your own business and be your own boss, or suck it up and join the not-min wage work force and work as much as you need to have the life you want. Every millennial has the opportunity to make enough money to live a good life, but many of them aren’t willing to put that work in and expect “the good life” to be handed to them. Those individuals are the definition of entitlement.4 points

I see millennials/Gen Z every day crushing life; the difference is they have values and an outlook on life that is contrasted with the entitled, lazy, shit work ethic, etc. that other millennials/Gen Z have. Not to say they aren’t facing “unfair” hurdles, but every generation has faced “unfair” hurdles. You can either adapt and overcome, or you can be a whiny little bitch - those are essentially the two options. Millennials generally seem to fall into one of those categories. Props to the ones who choose to not wallow in self pity.3 points

“Fucked up opinions”…in your opinion. There’s plenty of people who think your opinions are “fucked up.” So I guess you’re wrong because they think that? I think plenty of people have all kinds of stupid opinions, but as long as they aren’t actively forcing those opinions/the “fruits” of those opinions on others, then there’s really not a problem…unless you are self-absorbed to such a degree that you can’t abide by others believing differently than you. If a catholic believes being gay is a sin, and you don’t…well nobody is more right/wrong. But if one of you attempts to coerce/compel the other into their viewpoint (or the catholic person actively pursues action against gay people’s “standard rights” as a human/American), that’s when one of you becomes more clearly in the wrong. So the boomer generation is the root cause problem that this country faces? Is that what you're saying? "The ultimate 'me' generation..." Wow. What are the millennials' issues? I'm one so I'd like to hear your thoughts.2 points

Dude you left off the active clause of @brabus point - which was that people he knows can disagree with something but not be actively working to disabuse anyone of their rights. Lurking behind your post is the thought police. Because you don't believe what I believe, you are an immoral person. I am the only one who gets to determine what is true. Of course we all agree that discriminating against people based on their immutable characteristics is bad. The disagreement in this case is that benefits which society historically conferred (effectively) only on mothers and fathers shouldn't be extended to cover anyone else who decides they want them. It's not even a moral position in my case - it's a legal/financial one.2 points

There was a huge culture shift I think when millennials had their "come to Jesus moment" following the 2008 recession and started to carve their own rules into society. You had an entire generation raised to believe they could do anything, be anything and mean something to the world. Then the 2008 financial collapse happened, most couldn't role into the corporate world, and there was this sudden realization that 99.99% of people in the world are cogs and nothing else. I think this was hard to swallow for a lot of my generation. It certainly was for me and I "made it." (House, cars, 6 figure job, etc...) This prompted a change in the idea of success. Generally companies want employees with high engagement and motivation. But younger people see this as a wasted effort. It's not going to make them the next CEO in an industry they don't really care much about, and when companies talk about high engagement all millennials here is worker exploitation and people willing to pull weekends and holidays without bonus pay. So for younger people they changed the work bargaining position to one with a higher emphasis on self, and work life balance. They only have one life, why should they slave it at a job they hate to make the next Jeff Bezos rich. Jeff Bezos really believes in a Utopia where everyone works in a circular service industry and production is completely mechanized. But that doesn't drive engagement with today's society. Driving delivery vans without piss breaks is not going to make people feel valued to society.1 point

Do you work with/around boomers? Many don't want to buy a home. In my experience in the tech industry many millennials are driven by a different definition of success. I know several who were offered literally millions of dollars but they had to remain fully integrated with the company we were buying for a few years, they pushed back with a state goal of working three days a week and living in a tiny home. Others have pushed back on coming to the office thinking they are just as effective being virtual and didn't want to make the 30 minute commute. Depends on the sector, if you are millennial with a liberal arts degree working at McDonalds that is probably true, with a technical degree that is completely false. We've started MANY kids right out of college at six figures and given them $30K spot raises (on top of annual raises), to keep them with our company on critical projects. Disagree, in my experience the millennials often don't understand that their idea or pet project must exist within a viable business model. Don't lump everyone into the category of politicians...that just a different game. Why have college costs spiraled? Certainly not a correlation to inflation and the economy. IMHO much of the conflict we see in our country today is the result of our education system run amok. Universities are almost fully entrenched by the liberal thought police who transitioned the system from teaching to indoctrination, all while wrapping themselves in tenure and ever higher salaries. I agree that the value of a college education has declined. I have certainly seen self-taught tech folks become far more effective than those getting a tech degree. There is also a perception problem in that the millennials don't seem interested in the trades which are critically short and paying BIG $ right out of high school.1 point

Inability to buy a home. Wages that have not kept pace with inflation. Working in an economy radically changed by technology, but led by senior leadership that doesn't understand that technology. Boomers refusing to retire and relinquish power...most of our elected leadership are boomers. An era where college costs have spiraled, but the value of that college education is declining.1 point

People can express counterfactuals and develop contrarian takes. Its ok to discuss what could be, or what might be, or state some assumptions and develop an argument based on those assumptions. Russia's tactics make alot more sense given a narrative of 'self-defense', compared to 'imperial intent'. Why leave the power on? Why ignore leadership targets? Why let the oil flow? It all seems very odd. Imagine going into Iraq without striking any critical targets ahead of time. Zelensky is within striking distance, broadcasting from known locations, but they don't strike. Doesn't make much sense.1 point

Sorry, but not all opinions are created equal. Example: There is still a sizable number of people on this planet that hold the ‘opinion’ that women are chattel. While they certainly are entitled to hold that opinion, holding those views mean that most of us are going to consider them backwards thinking Neanderthals. This train of thought may have been far more prevalent a couple centuries ago but the world has moved on. You can refuse to move with it, but don’t be surprised when your offensive worldview is challenged. Sometimes that means there isn’t a place for you anymore in our institutions that have seen the light.1 point

Well to start while their parents were the greatest generation, the boomers wanted to party on a milk farm in upstate New York marketed as Woodstock rather than serve in their generations’ war. The millennials’ war however has been fought for over 20 years without a draft.1 point

Ok this is exactly what I was talking about. Wow, Ok thought and moral police. Forever, humans have identified homosexuality as a fringe and unhealthy sexual activity, Science literature confirms that fact, social science literature confirms that (even back when it was abnormal psychology), and moral teaching confirms that. I have to temper myself big time to not verbally bash on homos and trans. They deserve mutual respect as humans but earn no respect from anyone for their personal moral choices. We as a society tolerate plenty of things we don't personally condone. Comparing homos to people of color is incredibly offensive and not accurate. Just cause you might be a homo, doesn't mean you can force your choice onto other's value system.1 point

Agree 100% but let’s not forget that, for the most part, the boomers have been equally ignorant and obtuse. The ultimate “me” generation’s attitude of “I got mine” has laid landmines for successive generations throughout their time in power. Is it any wonder that the millennials and younger gens feel disillusioned and shafted? Why should they care if they’ve been more or less shut out of participating in the economy and politics anyway? If we want them to look up from their phones and off of mom’s couch, we need to listen to their issues and take them seriously. Instead, they watch us fight over petty cultural issues and shake their heads as their future slides further and further out of reach.1 point

The video subject is proper pronouns for trans and gender fluid menstruating people, I cannot believe you would be such a myopic sexist as to assume the video is about gays. You are old and trapped in the early 2000s structure of thinking about the queer experience. Get out of the way dinosaur, let a new generation spread their wings.. and you better get the terminology right; not their responsibility to make you feel good about your misgendering mistakes. In fact the term “misgender” is outdated, it presumes gender exists rather than being an imaginary social construct. /s For real though: be as crazy as you want to be, it’s a free country (for now). And I am free not to join your deluded make-believe world. I will call people he or she as applicable. The video is not about gay people, and it’s hilarious you assumed it was.1 point

@nsplayr What’s interesting is every gay friend I have absolutely cringe at the “pride movement/celebration” in its current form. It disgusts them. They, as a group, sought out years ago to have the same rights as others, namely marriage (and the legal, tax, etc. implications that went along with it). It wasn’t about “water boarding” society in gay pride. In fact, their views today are very in line with many espoused above…you do you, let me do me, and we can coexist without giving a shit about each other’s private lives. Sounds good to me, but attempt to shove your personal lifestyle choice down mine or my kid’s throat? Yeah go fuck yourself (that’s a general GFY, not directed at you personally). With the shit that’s in schools these days, maybe all the hetero people should start replacing those window sticker families with silhouettes of dudes banging chicks, you know, to show their hetero pride. Don’t like it and fully support it, than you’re a POS bigot! In reality I would not support that one iota more than I support this current pride bullshit. Your sexuality should not define you, nor should it be plastered all over in public, whether you bang chicks, dudes, or trees.1 point
-
That is a very toxic statement, in my opinion that certainly does not match the vast majority of this forum or folks in uniform. There will ALWAYS be outliers in any population distribution which sadly means a few bigots will get through the screening. That being said I think most people believe you should be allowed to be free and love who you want. The issue in my opinion is when you FORCE it down the throats (sts) of everyone. I liken it to other forced training...Airman snuffy in services got a DUI so we are going to lecture EVERYONE about DUIs before the long weekend. Or...There was a rape in one of the squadrons so rather than focus on holding that person accountable we are going to have a stand down and lecture everyone about sexual assault. Now we have the absolute lunacy in the video below. How about we focus on being warriors, lets have training on how to knock down the S400, get to the target, deliver ordinance and get EVERYONE home...that is inclusion training.1 point

Same here but the lead dog at this point rarely winds the race. He has done some great things here and I think he can do the job without being a giant narcissistic douche canoe. Sanders/Warren could have been catastrophic. For the record, I don't want EITHER party to have so much power that they can pass straight party line legislation. I prefer we stay in the middle and SLOWLY agree on change. Concur, but his negative personality traits will likely prevent him from stepping to the side for the good of his party and the country. I also think Biden should be disqualified. The suppression of the Hunter Laptop is in my opinion hiding some corruption, but the bigger issue is his mental decline. It is obvious and very concerning. DeSantis/Haley would seem the most powerful option and I think they would do good things. Both are highly intelligent and seem to make choices that match their beliefs not their politics. We are seeing a new generational gap. Think about the last 50 years where the WWII generation shaped politics as the boomers grew up. Living through a world war gave folks great perspective. The current generation has their face buried in a cell phone and is beyond entitled. For them, war (GWOT/ISIS/Ukraine), is a normalized thing that is FAR away and does not impact their daily life. They see occasional snippets but it doesn't interfere with their insta selfie while holding a venti vanilla sweet cream cold brew with three pumps of vanilla, three pumps of caramel syrup, one pump of cinnamon dolce syrup, three pumps of hazelnut, two pumps of toffee nut syrup, two pumps of mocha, two pumps of white mocha, eight pumps of pumpkin sauce, three pumps of maple pecan syrup, and five shots of espresso.1 point

1- Unemployment, these were jobs we got back from Covid losses so they aren’t specifically “new jobs”, crediting Biden with that is disingenuous. 2-Ukraine support- mostly NATO led, which isn’t a bad thing. I’m sure Biden gets briefed when he’s awake. There are still serious issues and way forward strategy in terms of our response that I won’t discuss here. 3- Biden had a mandatory vaccine policy for the GOV; if you are for the vaccine mandate for government workers and are praising the rise in numbers, then sure I guess?… but not sure how much he affected the rest of the population? 4- Devil is in the details and execution. Let’s reevaluate in a year. 100% agree with you with regards to DeSantis vis a vis Trump. We get Trump’s policies without the drama, theoretically. Trump’s behavior after the election was an embarrassment. Had he walked away in grace he would still be held as an icon by half the population.1 point

It this was his opinion that the war in Ukraine is NATO's fault, if so logic dictates Putin should have taken all the former Warsaw pact countries that border mother Russia. My own personal opinion this is a natural resource grab, oil, natural gas and the best farm land in Eurasia. Turkey should have helped Ukraine get in NATO which would have been beneficial for having a ally on the opposite coast of the Black Sea. It seems that anybody that didn't spend $100k plus on an education you look down upon, just like the abortion argument , no ovaries or uterus STFU. The Veterans Parking spots at Lowes and Home Depot are dumb. We’re not all handicapped with PTSD, and even if we were, when offered the luxury most of us are the types to automatically refuse the help anyway. I saw the instructions for applying a military discount at HD once, it says to most importantly “ensure you thank the member for their service.” Dude could be a CMOH winner or awaiting NJP, and the cashier is required by company policy to pander to them because of an attribute. Just like the gate agent lets you board before the families, or the commissary makes old ladies wait for uniformed personnel. Nah, I’ll wait my turn. I know it's uncomfortable to admit, but some of y'all can just come out and say (sic), "I don't like gay people and don't want to see/hear/think about gay stuff." It's not a popular POV at this point in history, but you can just come out and say it. It's ok...this is a "safe space" 😆 I'll be fair to you vs just snarky and say point taken that perhaps some of our "celebration" months go a bit overboard on identity itself vs accomplishments of people of that identity. I agree. I don't care if you're gay and in the military, but if you're gay and did something worth celebrating while in uniform I'd love to hear about it and share that story. But overall, if people wanna fly flags and be proud of who they are or celebrate their heritage then by all means go for it! I do all of those things for my identities as an American, an Italian, an Irishman, and an active service member. 1.) I never said Putin wasn't in the wrong. I said he was working toward his country's interests. I've also said American holds some responsibility for aggression. That's a big difference. I don't like Putin, I don't particularly find him an admirable person and I generally detest dictators. Doesn't mean I don't think they can behave rationally which they often do to protect their power. Your inability to deduce nuance in this is telling. But I guess this is another "hoorah with us or against us freedom fries" issue for some isn't it? You think you're being absolutist pro American but all I see is people who are willing to squander limited national resources on foreign citizens instead of protecting the rights, security and interests of those at home. 2.) You're the one being hostile. I haven't been active here for quite sometime, deliberately allowing time and space for cooler heads; all I did was post highlights of a dudes bio. Somehow that deserves name calling? Self reflect.... Maybe you need to take a timeout. Instead of professionally approaching it and saying "I'll just take this at face value" you decide to read into it and sling insults.-1 points
