  1. How about this? I would say the points below are pretty mainstream for most of my conservative friends, I don’t speak for the extreme: -People don’t chose to be gay -Homosexuals are human beings and should be treated as such -Homosexuals should receive the same rights in the eyes of the government as heterosexuals, to include the benefits of a Civil Union…to that point I don’t think government should be in the business of marriage, period. -Churches should never be forced to marry homosexuals. To your earlier point on Catholics, gays would be welcome in any Catholic Church, it’s only their lifestyle that wouldn’t be approved or validated - I’ll bet you any money on that. -Homosexuals are welcome in the military, I couldn’t care less who you bang. Bring your same sex spouse to work events, you should not be treated any different because of your sexual preferences. -Have your pride parades off base, don’t care, it does not belong in the military and Nellis AFB should not be having drag shows or drag queen reading hours to kids. In fact, just leave kids out of this discussion until they are old enough. All they need to know is treat everyone with respect. -Not everyone is going to approve of your lifestyle, that does not give you the right to bully, intimidate or cancel. The gays who are still bullying the Christian bakers are the worst of people. -There are two genders, you cannot change genders. That’s basic science. Transgenders are still people and should be treated as such, those with gender dysphoria should seek mental help, and with no negative stigma just like any other disease. -No, the military shouldn’t have to pay for gender hormone treatment or transition surgery. I as a commander have better things to do than teach transgender awareness training. -BL, whether you are gay or straight, don’t be an asshole, and we can get a long just fine.

  2. I just want to add my .02 regarding the Ashley Bobbit part of the discussion. I'm in law enforcement (fed - Immigration) and like many others have gone on orders to get away from work (for a variety of reasons). As far as Bobbit and "resisting arrest", we'd have to know what the Capitol Police Use of Force rules are for deadly force. At my agency, there's no way we could have fired at her -- to put it in very generic terms that don't spill any details regarding our UoF policies, we can only use force that is equivalent to what's being used against us or another. If she wasn't armed, she wasn't a threat that needed to be dealt with using deadly force (i.e. firearms). The caveat is that they (Capital Police) may have different policies for protecting members of Congress. So, unless we know that, we're all speculating to some degree. I'll also throw in something else about law enforcement and immigration in general. During the Trump admin we were sending people to the SW Border for rotations to enforce US Law (Title 8 primarily). These were involuntary TDY's, and although many weren't excited about forced TDY's, at least we doing what we're trained to do (law enforcement). There are TDY's again under the current Admin, but these are simply to assist in processing aliens and then releasing them with a Notice to Appear (NTA) before EOIR at a later date. They're released into interior and almost none ever show for their court date. This is a deliberate decision by policy makers and ultimately the President himself. None of us can understand it. The border was quite secure until 18 months ago. Now it's wide open. A friend working at an airport for another immigration agency said he doesn't know why they bother processing pax or looking for bad guys. He said if anyone really wanted to harm us (like the 9/11 hijackers), it's easier for them to just go to Mexico and cross our southern border. At that point we wouldn't even have a record of their arrival and they'd have free reign within the country.

  3. I bitch because I had to repay mine (I ain't a boomer). I knew what I wanted (fly, ergo the degree) and figured it out. And today, in my state, HS grads that attend in state and can hold a B can mostly have tuition covered. Ok, so what are they going to do about it? Sit there with tears rolling onto their cell phone screens while tic tocking away, or do something about it. I posit, too many will do nothing. And that's fine with me, I'll take it. Know and understand the game, then beat it. Been that way forever... I think it was called, "King of the Mountain."

  4. This is simply not true in a historical context. As pointed out, the median income is no longer capable of buying the same things. And the distribution of wealth over the generations at specific ages has shifted dramatically lower. The college scam has started millions off with crippling debt. Millennials did not create this world, their parents did.

  5. Shack. Sounds exactly like my rant when these boomer captains bitch about their kids not meeting their expectations. Why aren't you doing well in the world we control? Now we get the privilege of paying for their decades of financial malfeasance while simultaneously funding the social security program they bankrupted, which we will never benefit from. And they have the audacity of invoking capitalism when their kids flirt with socialism, when in reality their kids are only leaning towards socialist solutions because they watched their parents' generation drag capitalism into an alley and rape it for the last 30 years. And just wait, their over-leveraged, over invested 401k accounts are going to implode and they'll be back to the government trough for another bailout, all while lecturing us on responsibility and hard work 😂🤣

  7. That’s a very valid viewpoint and I don’t at all blame someone for having it. In fact, I subscribe to it within reason. The millennial problem manifests when they don’t want to work for “the man,” but then complain when they can’t buy a house, the car they want, fill in the blank. Well, either start your own business and be your own boss, or suck it up and join the not-min wage work force and work as much as you need to have the life you want. Every millennial has the opportunity to make enough money to live a good life, but many of them aren’t willing to put that work in and expect “the good life” to be handed to them. Those individuals are the definition of entitlement.

  8. Almost all of them recognize polygamy. Looking to enshrine that in federal law? Not that I'm opposed... consenting adults should be able to sign up for any legally binding agreements they want.

  9. Who said anything about the bible? Jesus. You guys have a hard time absorbing (or even recognizing) any view that deviates from your own, narrow, predefined narrative about what constitutes "the other sides'" opinion. Islamic, Hindu, European, African, Asian, Japanese, Polynesian, and Indian cultures all conceived as marriage as between a man and woman. You're listening skills are akin to the kid hammering a square peg into the round hole: if it doesn't fit into something I think I heard, pound on it harder. My point is simply that the court had/has no business altering the definition of a bygone human tradition. Nope. Of course they can and do. So no one need disagree, nor should they be denied benefits. The real solution from my perspective is to remove tax benefits from marriage. If kids become involved, then this can be adjudicated with the use of child tax credits or something along those lines. I got nothing against gay people. Thanks.

  11. Got picked up IPZ on this LAF-A board (line # 4XX aka bottom 1/3) with the following push, thought it might be helpful to others next go around: #7/26 I/APZ #30/111 Gp O-4s "I expect great things as an O-5 & AF leader--Definitely Promote!" Overall recommendation: PROMOTE Biggest help IMO was a deployed MSN/CC gig and obviously ACSC in-correspondance. I personally despise quarterly/annual awards and never put myself in, I'm sure that did not help.

  12. By traditional do you mean “work at X for 40 years, pension, etc?” If so, then to agree with your further down point, that’s probably not a bad thing. Again, adapt to the changing work environment, or be a whiny bitch on social media - choose. Lots of millennials own their own business, lots are making O-5 level livings without a college degree, etc. It’s DIFFERENT than decades ago, but is not the doom and gloom “we got so screwed whaaaa” that is pushed. That is simply an excuse. Find a way over or around the hurdle, or give up. I don’t have empathy for most who take the whiny route because I see so many succeeding. I of course have empathy for those who truly are experiencing some significant hurdles that they’re trying to get over, but can’t - but it’s bullshit to say those people make up “a large percentage, majority, etc.” Overall, I think there are far more millennials succeeding and living life than there are being lazy, entitled shits. But to those lazy ones, I have zero empathy - find a way to win (including pivoting from the outcome of your poor decision to get an expensive and useless degree) or cry yourself to sleep on tik tok like a child, you deserve which ever outcome you make.

  18. Concur. I'd take the high school quarterback with a 3.0 in international relations over the above for a fighter pilot. If you want a degree that pays for the cost of itself and then makes money, maybe get a degree that has some value in the commercial sector. We are a tiny minority of people who buck the trend of degrees and wages.

  19. I’ll go one better and say their parents likely played a large role in the entitlement attitude. I agree with you that there are some major disconnects between the younger and older generations when it comes to ambition, work ethic, and intestinal fortitude. The stereotypes are definitely grounded in reality. At the same time, there are some very real obstacles that have been placed in their way and most of us would rather bicker over pronouns, windmills, and purple teletubbies than address issues that will have huge and lasting effects on the future of this country. I don’t have all the solutions but here’s one to start with: Want your college loans forgiven? Done, but the catch is two years of national service. Sort of a neo-GI Bill to jumpstart the new generation.

  20. Yeah, we should stick to biblical marriage between a man and a woman. Or a man and a dozen women. Or a man and the sex slaves he conquers at war. Or a man and his dead brother's wife. Or a man, his dozens of wives, and his concubines...

  21. I see millennials/Gen Z every day crushing life; the difference is they have values and an outlook on life that is contrasted with the entitled, lazy, shit work ethic, etc. that other millennials/Gen Z have. Not to say they aren’t facing “unfair” hurdles, but every generation has faced “unfair” hurdles. You can either adapt and overcome, or you can be a whiny little bitch - those are essentially the two options. Millennials generally seem to fall into one of those categories. Props to the ones who choose to not wallow in self pity.

  22. Nothing has been selected yet and I am still in the camp of, "I'll believe it's happening when I see it on the ramp." Light attack and active duty AFSOC MC-12s were ideas that got really close to happening and then just didn't. It should be really cool overall, and Armed Overwatch will be a replacement for the U-28 fleet (in theory), so talk to an active U-28 CSO and ask them about their job. I'm happy to put you in touch with some if you DM me. ACJ CSOs should be able to speak competently too since those two communities share a lot of overlap in technology, mission sets, and mentality from my experience at least. If you want to fly Armed Overwatch, graduate Nav school #1 and rank U-28s at the top of your list. And probably put ACJs #2.

  25. The video subject is proper pronouns for trans and gender fluid menstruating people, I cannot believe you would be such a myopic sexist as to assume the video is about gays. You are old and trapped in the early 2000s structure of thinking about the queer experience. Get out of the way dinosaur, let a new generation spread their wings.. and you better get the terminology right; not their responsibility to make you feel good about your misgendering mistakes. In fact the term “misgender” is outdated, it presumes gender exists rather than being an imaginary social construct. /s For real though: be as crazy as you want to be, it’s a free country (for now). And I am free not to join your deluded make-believe world. I will call people he or she as applicable. The video is not about gay people, and it’s hilarious you assumed it was.

  26. @nsplayr What’s interesting is every gay friend I have absolutely cringe at the “pride movement/celebration” in its current form. It disgusts them. They, as a group, sought out years ago to have the same rights as others, namely marriage (and the legal, tax, etc. implications that went along with it). It wasn’t about “water boarding” society in gay pride. In fact, their views today are very in line with many espoused above…you do you, let me do me, and we can coexist without giving a shit about each other’s private lives. Sounds good to me, but attempt to shove your personal lifestyle choice down mine or my kid’s throat? Yeah go fuck yourself (that’s a general GFY, not directed at you personally). With the shit that’s in schools these days, maybe all the hetero people should start replacing those window sticker families with silhouettes of dudes banging chicks, you know, to show their hetero pride. Don’t like it and fully support it, than you’re a POS bigot! In reality I would not support that one iota more than I support this current pride bullshit. Your sexuality should not define you, nor should it be plastered all over in public, whether you bang chicks, dudes, or trees.

  27. I think that misses the mark for most people. I really have no problem with what personal choices people make in the bedroom, nor with how they choose to party. I am, however, weary of the requirement for the masses to celebrate everyone and everything. It’s not just a “pride” thing - it’s a much larger toxic narcissism that is endemic to our society.

  30. I know it's uncomfortable to admit, but some of y'all can just come out and say (sic), "I don't like gay people and don't want to see/hear/think about gay stuff." It's not a popular POV at this point in history, but you can just come out and say it. It's ok...this is a "safe space" 😆 I'll be fair to you vs just snarky and say point taken that perhaps some of our "celebration" months go a bit overboard on identity itself vs accomplishments of people of that identity. I agree. I don't care if you're gay and in the military, but if you're gay and did something worth celebrating while in uniform I'd love to hear about it and share that story. But overall, if people wanna fly flags and be proud of who they are or celebrate their heritage then by all means go for it! I do all of those things for my identities as an American, an Italian, an Irishman, and an active service member. Feel free to grill a hamburger, eat a spicy meatball, down a pint of Guinness and blow some shit up in July to celebrate with me! 🇺🇸 🇮🇹 🇮🇪🎖️

  31. Fair enough. Like I said, I would rather celebrate the accomplishments of a diverse group of service members rather than just their identities as this or that. I know some who hold genuinely anti-gay views and they are feeling emboldened to try to turn back the clock 20 years, strike down legal gay marriage, and send folks back into the closet if not worse. I would like to see them fail in those efforts and not be unknowingly helped by folks like yourself that might be anti-celebration or against highlighting different identities or whatever rather than truly anti-gay.
