  1. This is what happens when we cater to the kids who got beat up on the playground...they're now running HR. Since my move to the left seat, I've thankfully only ran into one FO that I was glad we only had one, short leg together. She was a SJW type who clearly hated old, white men (good thing I'm not 40 yet lol). A vast majority of the pilots out there are great to chat with, but there are the occasional odd balls that you're ready to be done with.

  2. My guess is some Capt WO had this as an idea for a deployment situation and wanted to try it now instead of when shit kicks off. Instead of just killing it, Mini said well let’s try this out of the box thinking and see if it’s feasible. I also assume they went into it knowing the answer may end up being no. However instead of just killing the idea he empowered the people to try it in a controlled environment, the stuff most of us want. But the memo leaked and we lost our minds because we all made assumptions about why the memo was created, the long term intent, and the classic “that’s not how we’ve always done it”. People read way too much into this. Maybe I’m just looking at this with my glass half full.

  3. A few that stuck around for 20 did get fighters as the Recce sqds were closing down. That one low level ride we received in the -38 turned me on to the RF-4C and made a career killing move taking it over the F-4. Only regret was not having a chance to fly the F-5E. LL is still in my blood as I flew a 1.5 hr "sortie" this morning and never got above 1000' agl.

  5. Yup. The only people who fantasize about Europe as an enlightened paradise are the ones who have never lived there.

  6. Not very familiar with the first amendment, huh? When you support a law you shouldn't think about how it will be used, you should worry about how it will be misused. This dude was making a political point. AOC is on the record saying that protests should make you uncomfortable. She specifically chose something that she enjoys without considering that the protest against her could be framed in a way to make her quite uncomfortable. Just because you can't see the political point doesn't mean there isn't one. And all of that is largely irrelevant. We have the first amendment for very specific reasons, and laws that prevent sexual harassment in the workplace have no applicability in the public forum.

  7. Valid...I am biased. Know them both and I know how hard Welsh tried and what he was up against. I think I've posted the story before but I recall a conversation with Boomer about an ongoing ugly AF issue, he took a sip of his drink and replied "you would be surprised how little power the CSAF actually has." As per the design of our Constitution civilians get the final say and those "appointed" to be service secretaries often have other political agendas. I've known Mini for 28 years but have not spoken with him in a few years. As a captain/IP he was a great pilot and a solid bro who took care of folks, I never saw a single act of careerism. When he was the Wing/CC at Andrews I reached out for helping hiring one of my former Flight Engineers and Mini went to great lengths to help the guy who was eventually hired. Others may have other data points but my observation so far is he is trying to break some of the dogmatic thinking. Also, interesting Welsh and Minihan were at Moody at the same time (Welsh was the OG, Mini was an IP). We shall see...at least it's not CZ or Rat.

  8. 💯💯 People need to stop harassing other people, including public officials, and going home thinking they’re Rosa Fucking Parks or MLK Jr. 🙄 I don’t support it when progressive do it nor when right-wing people do it either.

  10. That using protestors to find politicians in public and "make them uncomfortable" is a double edged sword. This is obvious unless you only follow one side of the political discourse.

  14. What serious said. At DAL anyway, FO's can bid to avoid certain employee numbers. I've never actually bid to avoid anyone because I'm not going to let one asshole take away any of my bidding power. I have heard of Captains telling FO's to add him to their no-fly list lol.

  15. Someone should let Maxine Waters and AOC know. Since apparently they think threatening Supreme Court Justices or shouting at GOP staffers having dinner is the path to change.

  16. You're an advocate for MMT. There. That's a basis for an entire system of political and economic organization which is antithetical to America's. It's "free lunch" theory. You project a lot of knowledge about it and do seek to provide others "education" without being able to sufficiently explain it or elucidate your position yourself, without recourse to some other external youtube video of dubious origin/sourcing.

  17. Yeah sure, outdated mig 29s slinging dumb bombs would be much better. Hogs would probably be better than anything they have but like 99% of air forces out there, they want fast/loud jets vs the MQ-9s and light attack they truly need.

  21. That you're not really being honest in your positions. You'll call for civil discourse in one breath and call someone a whiney little bitch in the next if you think it will score a point in a debate. And then you pretend be unable to recognize your own hypocrisy when it put in front of your face and obvious to everyone else. If it's intentional, you're dishonest. If it's unintentional, you're not very bright. I can't say for sure which it is.

  22. When I first got qualified to taxi was in the late 80's when stationed at Andrews in the 89th, C-137's, we all had to get signed off by an IP. Due to the fact that the only high powered runup areas was on the hammer head. The old JT3D's took a lot of mx and always had writeups. Plus, it was part of our preflight checklist to taxi them to the VIP spot at the terminal. All our flight engineers were taxi qualified too, after I left in 91 Gen McPeak hated seeing enlisted taxi jets and ordered it stopped.

  23. No, but I am planning to transition from investing in the market (401k) primarily to investing in real estate and hard assets. Not entirely, because I could be wrong. But I don't trust the government to stop meddling with the market. The ECB just announced they will buy private debt if needed to stabilize their policy across the EU... "Purchases of private sector securities could be considered, if appropriate." That's insane. The entire premise of investing is using information and intellect to judge the likelihood of one business succeeding or failing in the marketplace. How can you make that assessment when the government can apply huge asymmetric force simply because they decided a company is useful in supporting their policy plans? I'm sure the selection process for these securities will be transparent and consistent... And yes, definitely buying gold. Not because I have use for it, but because that's where people and governments go when they get scared. Uh, yeah. What's that got to do with anything? The world kept working after Bear Stearns and Lehman vanished. But if you were financially involved with them, your world might have been rocked. The financial crisis gave way to Occupy Wall Street on the left and the Tea Party on the right. But there was no inflation, so the furor died down. Will it this time around? Dunno. The 20%+ inflation in some European countries isn't going to just "keep working" either. That's fine. You've established that pretty much anything that doesn't result in humanities extinction will count as success for you. You asked for specifics, and I've pointed out pillars of the modern financial system that I consider unsustainable, with pretty specific metrics. You seen to have confused the collapse of *this* financial system with there being "no financial system," which is clearly absurd.

  24. KC-135 has been a great aircraft to fly up until Blk45 became more of a negative than a positive (see autopilot issues in other threads) but for as old as she is she is really a great plane to fly. The 135 is definitely a more hands on airplane to fly that you have to handle and understand we don't have the automation many newer airframes have. Deployments: all depends on your unit but right now we're doing squadron Deployments and those are lasting about 4 months but with covid and times changing we're seeing a lot of changes. Ops tempo is extremely high right now. As a copilot it won't be too bad for you but once you upgrade expect to be other road a lot TDY and etc. The KC-10 is slowly going off line so we have been picking up a lot of taskings and we've even had to cancel leave for ACs we are so short manned. Let me know what other questions you have but overall I've liked my time in the tanker. Sent from my SM-F926U1 using Baseops Network mobile app

  26. You are a strange bird indeed. You state that you voted for Trump, elude to following the economist Minsky, play dumb in response to a satirical (but hilarious) comment about social issues, and post all sorts of drivel about banking, MMT, and the like to "educate" others as if you're slowly revealing what's behind the curtain in the modern banking and economic system. Stop trying to play cat and mouse with your posts. If you have ideological priors or foundational beliefs, just state them instead of trying to play Socrates on an anonymous forum.

  27. Not sure I really care. I'm not a UK or German citizen and their fascist speech practices, which have been known to send people for prison for shit as stupid as saying Angela Merkel is fat, is not something I really want in the US. You might think Europe is a utopia of liberal ideology but I'd encourage you to live here for a bit. Because it is overtly one of the most racist, xenophobic and misogynists' societies I've ever experienced.

  28. You should make your point more clear. How would you summarize the justifiable legal argument for a sexual harassment case against Alex? If you can't, then you're confusing just being offended with an actual legal transgression.

  29. I’ve seen a bunch of folks talking that if anyone does this single pilot KC-46 thing, they need to be black balled from all the airlines. These are the same people that bitch about toxic leadership and all the other talkings points 24/7. I find it highly ironic that black balling a guy for something he’s ordered to do about the most toxic thing I’ve ever heard.

  31. Your experience and actions deploying for Desert Storm may have been a valid tactic back then, when the Air Force less digitized and hundreds of thousands of people/dozens of squadrons bigger. It isn't any longer. In my corner of the AF (can't speak for others), your immunization status is tracked via ASIMS and reported to Sq Mobility and leadership every week. If you're overdue a shot, you get told to get it politely, once. Then you're in the DO's office explaining why you're red on immunizations and therefore not ready for alerts or deployments. Putting aside this recent COVID dicknannagans since this is supposedly about monkeypox, getting vaccines if you're a military member isn't a choice or negotiable based on your personal feelings; it's a condition of employment. I didn't particularly want to get Yellow Fever, JEV, Anthrax, Smallpox, or Rabies vaccines, but they were all required for me to deploy, they're required for me to continue serving and a lawful order, so I rolled up my sleeve and got them. Much like PT tests, OPRs, or ancillary training, I may personally think some of them are stupid or silly but the corporation didn't ask me and doesn't give a shit about my opinion. If I or anyone in my squadron starts to refuse vaccines, they're now non-deployable and a drag on the squadron cause we've got to find someone else to cover alerts or deployments. If an individual's personal feelings/beliefs/analysis about vaccines are so strong that they refuse them, then it's time for that person to find different pastures besides military service.

  33. It is crazy how one idiot can ruin it for everyone. Sadly, his comment is still used to the detriment of the community today. The U-28 and the community changed the fight in many regards. Fing heroes and extreme professionals in my book...still carrying the mail to this day, but one idiot made a comment that left a stain. Awesome to see those in the community grow up and take big leadership positions. There are a few on here whop have done great things for the community. We need more of that less Pavelow/Talon II Mafia.

  34. Having said all that, I hope AFSOC does a 10000x better job selling this airplane to young assignables than they did with the U-28. This gave me a chuckle. Spring 2006 I still remember the day walking out to the flight line with the 9 other NFO's (an the initial cadre of USAF stick monkey types) seeing 419 taxi in for the first time at Hurby. "So....this is a U-what?" ATIS

  35. New rules that I am guessing a lot of folks don't understand. This is an OTA so the government can do what it wants after the initial down-select and there is no opportunity for protest....they can even go outside the Tier 1 requirements. FYSA MC-145 misses SEVERAL Tier 1 requirements. That being said Congress can certainly review the outcome. You might review the last NDAA where Congress specifically called out the program and delayed funding allocation until the completion of an OSD/CAPE study that should be complete next month. "Dear Congress, AFSOC here, remember that plane we bought a few years ago then DIVESTED most of them, well we would like to purchase 75 more...yes we are aware it would require restarting a now discontinued production line in a foreign country because there are not enough existing platforms to convert for this program. Also, yes we fully understand the logistical train will be completely dependent on the whims of a foreign nation. Yes there is plan to do final assembly in the U.S. but 80% of the production, touch labor and highly skilled jobs will be done in a foreign country." For the record - 100% of the AT-802 would be built in the U.S....mainly Oklahoma... home of the ranking member of the SASC and a key member of the HASC.

  36. No need to be so sensitive, or try to draw people into political circles that may not be relevant. If I ask it isn't obvious to me. What are the policies you don't like (that AOC supports) and which policies do you want instead? (1) and, Do you consider US democrats 'protesting' at times to be equivalent to 'Alex' shouting "U mah fav big booty latina!". It's tit-for-tat? (2)
