  1. I'm glad that Donk and Billy Bob's sortie still stays in the forefront-- those two did a hell of a job that day. There's a podcast out there with the two of them talking for a couple hours about the mission and its impacts. I was in the 75th with them at that time, and I'm glad that they all got the recognition they deserved for the job they did that day. A funny story about the mission-- Billy Bob comes up to me and tells me that I need to see one of his passes from the sortie because he almost hit a bird while rolling in for a strafe pass. Seemed a little odd, but we watched the tape a few times, and sure enough, that "bird" had a little orange burst of fire in the center of it... damn airburst right in front of him as he's down the chute. Sobering moment to say the least... I think that coincided with the moment that the adrenaline had finally started to wear off from the mission. There's a painting in the 75th commemorating that mission, but there's a big problem with it-- it's TOO clear. The visibility was absolute dogshit that day-- foggy, hazy, low ceilings... and a good deal of AAA to boot. We watched some of the passes where BB is calling out the ground references that he knew would walk him to the target... and the tanks come out of the haze at damn near min range-- he's still on the trigger as the rounds are impacting almost immediately. They did what they had to do. And the JTAC controlling them that day was one of our pilots serving as a BnALO on the ground for the entire fight. Great story all around. I don't remember the ROE discussion being a huge issue, or maybe that's just for a couple of reasons. First, from the time we arrived in theater, our leadership made it very clear that they had our backs in the fight, so long as we could explain what and why we were doing something. If we decided that we needed to hang it out for the guys on the ground and could explain ourselves, they'd go to the mat for us. So there was that level of mutual support within the squadron that had come to be expected and established. Second, Donk didn't make it a big issue-- he explained what he did and why he did it and he stood up straight willing to accept any decision that was made knowing that he had done what needed to be done in the moment, and they were successful doing it. His combat leadership was unparalleled-- I'll never forget the speech he gave on the C-5 headed over. Every senior officer on base had put in their two cents, and I couldn't tell you what they said just a few hours later. I can still hear Donk's "We are going into harms' way" speech almost 20 years later. I clearly remember our Group Commander, Coach, getting on the bus and sending us off with one word.... "ATTACK!" We were fortunate to have him as our DO, and Bino as our CC for that fight. Under their guidance was when we really coined and instituted the phrase "Shark Standard," which was more an expectation and a guiding challenge than it was a statement. That phrase told you that you had a standard to live up to, not that you were automatically assumed to be the best or even worthy of it-- you had to prove it every day, in everything you did. I like to think that we did, and it was because of leaders like that who not only set that standard, but lived it for all of us to see and try to follow and keep up with. Donk's one of those leaders who if he said we were trekking to the seventh level of Hell, I'd ask what time the brief was. That's the spirit of ATTACK.

  2. Hillary WAS investigated by the FBI. You may not like it, but they decided not to charge her with a crime. Fishy? Yeah, probably. I think the reasoning was that a charge that close to the presidential election would undoubtedly be seen as a political move by the FBI. In the end, it lost her the election anyway. A better option would’ve probably been to wait until after the election. I think there is a very good chance we would’ve seen impeachment proceedings brought forward had Hillary won. But she didn’t. Her alleged crimes were investigated and she faded quietly away. Would re-litigating the episode have any consequential results for the country? I don’t know. I do know DJT continues to be active in politics and badly wants to be president again. Investigating his alleged crimes is FAR more consequential for this country than trying to send a shriveled old lady who lost an election to jail. WRT to Hunter, there is an ongoing FBI investigation, yes? Forgive me if I missed it, but AFIK the details of that investigation remain unreleased to the public and no actual evidence has been released that tie the current president to any wrongdoing. I sincerely hope and expect the FBI to conduct a thorough investigation. If it turns out that the president is involved in illegal activities, I support appropriate consequences. But it sure seems like a lot of people here have already convicted Joe Biden in their own heads. At the same time, they say raiding Mar-a-Lago was inappropriate when we KNOW there was classified material inappropriately stored there. It doesn’t matter if Trump himself walked out with the material or even knew about it (although I find it rather unbelievable that he didn’t). A crime was most definitely committed and to argue that is shouldn’t even be investigated is grade-A, 100% absurd and HIGHLY hypocritical (unless you believe the FBI planted evidence, in which case: look out for those black helos, chemtrails, and gay frogs guys, amirite?). Both parties need to do a better job of presenting us with candidates with vision, integrity, intelligence, common sense, and a litany of other desirable attributes. I’ve been deeply dissatisfied with candidates of all stripes as of late. But the Republican party really put up a softball when they nominated Trump & then basically accepted him as their deity. I’m sorry, but you can’t complain about Bill’s philandering, Hillary’s lawlessness, and Joe’s nepotism, and in the same breath express support for DJT who is all of those things on an order of magnitude worse. High profile politicians of all stripes have played by altered rules for a long time (news flash: Nancy Pelosi and Democratic lawmakers aren’t the only ones who’ve become stupid rich while in office) and I agree it’s wrong, but DJT has stuck his head so far out of the foxhole that nobody should be surprised he’s taking fire.

  3. So either charge Hillary now, or leave Trump alone. The way they're going about this give a very strong perception that the FBI is being weaponized against Biden's political enemies.

  4. No...Just NO! You can hold them accountable for past actions and make CHANGE in the organization. You don't just hope they do better next time. GWB is not in control but DOJ and many of the same clowns at the FBI are in their same positions or HIGHER! It is not brainworms or whataboutism, its about accountability and FIXING the Fing problem. Maligning the FBI...you don't seem to grasp that after FBI agents LIED to the FISA Court and changed the investigation language on Hillary's handling of classified, people don't trust them. There are SERIOUS issues with the organization. Now do I think they were planting evidence, I seriously doubt that but I say again, the FBI LIED on multiple issues with regard to Trump! Doesn't that bother you? You can't see how that might cast a little doubt?

  7. You don't want to whatabout anyone else but you will whatabout the stuff at Trump's house...come on brother, at least be fair. I agree, having TS at your house is unsat and ALL should be held accountable. Trust me, I don't want Trump to run again, I want him to go away, but shouldn't we at least see the evidence and context? If he is guilty of a crime I have no issue with him being prosecuted but there are so many unknowns at this point. Was the stuff declassified (properly), was it purposeful, was it Trump that said move those documents? There are questions NOT excuses, shouldn't there at least be the appearance of a proper investigation/trial before you rush to the tree with a rope? Given your statement, what should have happened to Hillary when they confirmed she had TS/SCI - SAP on her server...please share your opinion. How was she not prosecuted? This is why we are so divided, there is most certainly the appearance of a double standard of justice between the DNC and the GOP. Honestly, don't you think they should at least look at the laptop and the implication that Biden is the "Big Guy?" Was it right for FBI agents to lie to the FISA Court to get a warrant to surveil and American citizen? All of this would be a non-issue and Trump would be in time-out had Hillary been held to the same standard and we had an honest investigation of the laptop and how it connects through the Biden family, but all of that has been actively suppressed by the press, the intel apparatus and as some recent whistleblowers have pointed out, members of the FBI. As an fierce patriot (which I know you are), how does that not bother you at the core? Personally the most disappointing part of everything that has happened the past few years. Growing up my family had a relationship with a very high ranking member of the FBI, had I not become a pilot I likely would have pursued that route. I idolized the FBI agents we knew, one of whom went on to lead the HRT. Unfortunately the past few years have led me to question what I thought was an organization beyond reproach. When we found out Kevin Clinesmith lied to the FISA court (he did plead guilty to a felony count), I was hopeful it was a one-off rouge agent. Then IG Horowitz released his report which showed the FBI lied to both both houses of Congress about the dossier...(the FBI lied to help impeach a President, how does that not anger everyone on this board?) The "Insurance Policy" I hoped was again a rouge agent bloviating, but now with the Whistleblowers coming forward to say the FBI actively suppressed the Laptop, come on man...something is rotten in at least part of that agency.

  8. If the FBI wants to investigate Hunter Biden’s laptop go for it, you won’t see me calling for the the FBI to be defunded or staging armed protests outside of field offices or trying to break into one. In fact the director of the FBI Chris Wray was appointed by Trump after he fired Comey, so I’m sure he doesn’t have some kind of overriding loyalty to Biden that’s preventing him from doing so. And FWIW I don’t support going back and re-litigating stuff from years/decades ago (eg GWB, drone strikes, emails from the Obama admin, etc.) If no charges were filed at the time then we can’t endlessly live in the past and put everyone on trial forever, something I think conservatives would agree with re: past racism/slavery and some other cultural issues. Handling the present correctly is always the best way to move forward.

  9. We did all that deconfliction stuff in regard to artillery doing CAS in the Hawg. Then I ended up sentenced to be an ALO with an armor battalion. Watching a night live fire exercise and seeing the high altitude ricochets from 120mm main gun rounds, 30mm chain guns, TOW missiles, and God knows what else high speed metal, I came to the conclusion deconfliction was a nice idea but wishful thinking for those of us that operated in the weeds.

  10. As an O-5 with 22 years, $1,500/month in flight pay and $75,000/yr bonus (highly doubt it happens), that is getting close to what might entice me to consider going on a year of orders...close lol. Problem is, the ANG clings to the ridiculous notion of a smaller bonus for 1 year orders. I don't mind taking a pay hit to help out, but not for a measly 25k bonus.

  11. COVID is over given the new CDC guidance. Symptoms or no symptoms, vaccinated or unvaccinated, no need to wear masks or quarantine, just reflect on personal choices (as it’s always been). This is as close as we will ever get to an official announcement: “go back to normal, it’s over.” By implication, this new CDC stance is tacit acknowledgement that the vaccines and boosters are worthless.

  12. I agree that Hillary and the server were bad! No charges were filed but…she lost the 2016 election in no small part due to that. Could have been handled better by the FBI all around. Ok, so you believe retaining classified documents in non-approved ways is bad and should be punished IAW the law. Great, let’s do that with the case at hand right now with Trump. Or you support Hillary having kinda been given a pass in terms of legal consequences, and therefore it’s only fair that Trump does too. I don’t agree, but that’s a logically consistent policy at least. Elites are above the law! BUT, what I’m failing to comprehend is anger that Hillary wasn’t charged or jailed but the same folks believe either Trump did nothing wrong or should not be punished or that we should abolish the FBI 🙄. Not speaking to anyone specific here, but many GOP politicians are going down this trail and I wish they would stop jumping on grenades for Trump before the facts are known beyond that he had TS/SCI docs at Mar-a-Lago. Hillary pretty much went away after she lost. She didn’t endorse in the 2020 primary until it was basically over, and speaking as a Democrat, no one in the party cares what she thinks or does or tweets at this point. Y’all can do that too!

  22. There’s no realistic scenario where 4G is doing actual CAS and F-35s are required to do SEAD ISO those 4G. Ridiculous. The reality is it’s either low threat and 4G is doing 3-09.3/JFIRE, or they’re no where near the fight and the boys on the ground are well aware they’re unlikely to receive much traditional CAS support, if any, from the 5G guys they’re working with.

  24. In April, four rural Chinese banks froze ~$6B in retail deposits. A housing development bond crash just wiped out $90B. Real estate is used as backing for financial assets, and the whole thing is propped up by massive debt. Three state owned corporations (PetroChina Ltd, China Life Insurance Ltd and China Petroleum & Chemical Co) just de-listed from the NYSE over company audit concerns. Somehow I doubt this will be the straw that breaks the camel's back, but the cracks are becoming very obvious. (How's that for mixed metaphors?)

  31. Good luck, it’s a blast! In flying Draco for ~5 years we went through 4 significant block upgrades of hardware, 4 major software updates for our main mission management setup, about a dozen smaller software updates (smaller still being 20+ new/changes features), and innumerable other random permutations of datalinks, new radios, etc. etc. Blended fleets are great 🤪 Flying the MQ-9 last week, I found out my sensor operator had never flown a block 1 aircraft before yet there we were, flying one, no restriction against it. Glad we didn’t have an EP, his ability to assist with the checklists would have been significantly degraded lol. Y’all will do great flying the Buff past her 100th year in service I’m sure 😎

  32. If he did what WHO is saying. I think the two situations are VERY different but would like the law to apply equally. On the Trump side there are a few complicating factors that are not adding up at first look. 1. His initial response is "these were declassified documents" As we all know, POTUS is the ultimate declassification authority. While the intel apparatus prefers those documents be reviewed, there is no requirement. It will be interesting to see if any process was followed or is this just an excuse. 2. The FBI knew all of this stuff was there and there were other mechanisms to get the documents. Also, they left the information there for two months after the last visit. If this was so sensitive why did they wait? The timing is VERY specious and has the appearance of the DOJ being weaponized just before the mid-terms. 3. It has been reported that Obama took 30 MILLION documents with him when he left. The national archives has put out a statement saying there is no classified in those documents. Do you honestly believe they reviewed all 30 million documents. With regard to Hillary Clinton that is a VERY different situation. 1. She was not POTUS, she had no declassification authority and no legal justification to purposely mishandle very classified material. 2. They found SCI not in a locked closet but on her freaking private server. As you know, that was a deliberate act...I say again, A DELIBERATE ACT. Someone had to copy/print/USB stick that info from a system that did not touch her private server and purposely load it onto an unclassified system. 3. She purposely destroyed 33,000 emails. How can they prosecute Trump with a straight face after Comey changed the language on the Hillary report and let her off the hook. Do you not see that as complete double standard of justice?

The "but her emails" crowd suddenly caring so much about mishandling of classified documents. It's wild that people are so mentally broken by political polarization they can't even recognize a standard and apply it equally. Either classified documents matter or they don't.

  35. It isn't just COVID though. Momentum has been turning from Chinese manufacturing for years. Especially in the tech sector where companies like Apple began realizing that their IP was being handed to Chinese competitors by the CCP. The problem is the sunk cost fallacy. Many of these companies already built significant infrastructure in China. They need a business case to abandon it. COVID was a good motivator for that but it's not enough. The biggest hope we have though was the corporate response to the invasion of Ukraine. Noone expected the oil industry of all people, or several other large corporations like McDonalds, to take a moral stand and willfully leave Russia without sanctions requiring them to do so. Hence, we need to keep putting pressure out there. Because businesses do want out of China. But they need enough reason to do so.

  38. That’s one way to look at it. Another way would be that the FBI literally handed an election (and by happenstance, the U.S. Supreme Court) to Republicans in 2016 when they released the results of their investigation of Hillary Clinton. Remember that one? Didn’t hear too many Rs decrying the politicization of the FBI then. Sometimes timing’s a bitch. BTW, the argument is that this is the FBI trying to influence the midterms, right? So when would the timing be better? During the run up to the next presidential election perhaps? 🤣

  39. I believe the old adage "If everywhere you go smells like shit, maybe it's time to check your shoes?" applies here. There's currently no evidence or verifiable study that republicans are disproportionately tried/prosecuted. There's plenty of evidence (enough to prosecute) that many Republicans have committed crimes. If evidence came to light for a Democrat I'd hope they're also tried. 40. This is the whataboutism! Hillary Hunter Nancy Pelosi laptops servers etc etc etc. Those are all conversations and grievances that can be had and aired, but not with me on the internet. Not worth the time spent for me, sorry. We can talk in person sometime but I imagine there are more fruitful things we could talk about instead 🍻 The situation at hand that I’m interested in is that in the last several days, the FBI executed a search warrant on Donald Trump’s house and walked away with TS/SCI and potentially even more sensitive stuff. The warrant indicated possible espionage concerns. He has not been the President for 18 months and has no reason to possess these documents. Without further speculation…that seems bad! I support federal law enforcement agencies looking into that and condemn threats against FBI agents and federal judicial folks who are doing their jobs. I also find it really lame to say this will help Trump politically somehow, just like being impeached twice and losing the 2020 election helped him? Some real 8-D chess going on here… To my Republican and conservative friends in general, I implore you to drop this guy and move on. Stop defending the indefensible by using a laundry list of every logical fallacy in the book. The GOP bench is stocked with other candidates who will enact policies you like and own the libs big time, I promise you.

  41. Hmmm, what was happening in this country 18 months ago? It would’ve been decried as “political” then, just as it is now, just as it would be a year from now. By your rationale, we should never investigate any politician because there is ALWAYS something “political” going on.
