  1. Something to distract from the political discussions… https://fireaviation.com/2022/08/28/cal-fire-attaches-video-camera-to-air-tanker/ Mounted a GoPro to the bottom of my tanker this week and got a little fire yesterday to test it out. Just a short clip, but captures the essence of our Initial Attack mission here at CalFire. Direct and timely action to save structures and possibly lives!

  2. But if you’re 5 and want to take drugs and/or have surgery to change your gender, the left it cool with that…

  4. We're converting to the Space Shuttle. At least, that's the rumor I'm starting, because it makes about as much sense as the "everyone is turning into the Guard" rumor.

  5. Colleges are their biggest indoctrination and recruiting centers, they have no incentive to go after the sham that is big college. Remember when Obama wanted everyone to go to college? Surely it’s not because he cares about the youth being educated. Almost belongs in the hypocrisy thread.

  6. I love this airplane, looks like it would be a blast to fly. Fills the tanks with 11,000lbs of water in 12 seconds...amazing Cheers to all who are out there hacking this mish.

  7. Got to finally(so late) watch Guy Ritche's "Gentlemen". Really cool movie, gives you his early movies (Snatch and Smoking barrels) vibes, but with an excellent cast. Every single actor felt like he was made for this role!

  8. Jesus fucking Christ, top gun Maverick may have been one of the best movies I've ever seen, and I did not like the first one. Whatever ancient movie writing formula they pulled out of the closet to make Maverick, I hope they don't lose it again. No message, no franchise, just a hero, a challenge, and a victory. Awesome.

  11. When I went to Altus to learn the tanker I left my family at my previous duty station. I used myPers to submit a BAH waiver to get BAH at my previous duty station and it was all handled, and approved, through myPers. It was actually fairly easy. I was TDY so I still got the normal TDY entitlements. That said, you’re guard so it might be different.

  13. I think we do pretty well at “whole person concept.” Of course high scores, GPA (degree type factored in), etc. matter. But also the interview is huge - I’ll take the 29 yr old hockey player with a 2.9 GPA who’s a volunteer EMT over the 4.2 GPA/99s, works at LM, awkward 23 yr old. Scores aren’t everything - demo you can handle hard work, have faced adversity and not quit, are a team player and a dude we want to go to war (and the bar) with. There are also incredibly smart people who are gifted academically, but you can just tell they’re not the “get into the fray” type. That’s OK, just fighters aren’t for that person.

  14. I've used California Numismatic (www.golddealer.com) for 35 years now with great success. They usually had the best margins out there and are established and solid. Lately however their margins are quite high (significant) with gold and silver. Check your state on sales tax as well, TN just started charging sales tax on silver and gold (even US mint coinage like the $1 Silver Eagle and $50 Gold Eagle - seems unfair) which creates an even larger margin. My brother bought some recently in TX and they don't charge sales tax on precious metal coins (bullion or U.S. minted) .

  16. I'm astounded that anyone, who has deployed more than once in the last two decades, would still give them much more than an ounce or two of credibility. Having deployed to the same location, 11 years apart, trip two was truly a demoralizing event, and solidified my decision to get out after current commitments to my boss (whom I truly respect). It was same shit, different pile, made worse by an ROE that said, we have no business being here. But hey, some defense contactors were making big bucks and our young guys got some good airline hours! I look back and laugh at the time/effort (quasi witch hunt) that took place over a trivial missing item (maybe a few $K value), then months later we just say fuck it a leave untold millions (billions) behind. What a fucking waste! Signed, Jaded old fuck 🤣

  17. While Bernie Bros and AOC types whine and rant about Big Oil, Big Pharma, and whatever other Big, Big College has far exceeded all others in the rate of increase in price. But the biggest supporter of the Leftist Libs are College educated white women so FJB is paying off his base.

  18. The government gave $200k to some green haired person to pay for a degree in intersectional drum circles with a gender queer emphasis at some Ivy league SJW indoctrination school so now taxpayers have to pick up the tab because, surprisingly, you only qualify for a minimum wage job as a Starbucks barista with such an education.

  20. Funny how she loves to play the victim. Those fat people are not the victim, they are the perpetrators. The poor bastard stuck in the middle seat between two whales is the victim. Airlines need to fix this before it gets worse. Just like the "comfort animal" problem a little while ago. If you need an animal to calm you down to fly, you probably shouldn't lock yourself in a big metal tube flying through the sky with absolutely no way to get out of it once the door shuts.

  21. I’ll bet the poor bastard that got seated next to her wants a refund too. I’d say they’re far more deserving of said refund as well! Here’s an idea: if you need the seatbelt extender, you buy two seats. No judgment. You simply pay for the space you take up.

  23. I love this movie. I like your analysis but I think you missed one of the biggest themes of the movie. I think it’s the danger of obsession at the expense of everything else in one’s life. The Buddy Rich parallels and then at the end where Miles Teller basically turns his back on his dad and goes 100% into the drums. Fantastic movie.

  24. Shaft is the only person I know that got to "real world drop live" on his old AFB. Pretty cool. I tee'd it up for Beale Public Affairs to run a good story on it... but nothing was ever done.
