According to the memo, the Department of the Air Force wants an officer corps that is: 67.5% white 13% Black/African American 10% Asian 7% multiracial 1.5% American Indian/Native Alaskan 1% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander “These goals are aspirational … and will not be used in any manner that undermines our merit-based processes,” the memo said. Don't they come up basically open even before accepting? I think that's the issue. You're going to see it regardless of acceptance. I think.2 points

Full disclosure: After my grandson saw the movie, he asked me if I used to be like Maverick. I answered honestly: "I was really more like Bob". His face fell a bit.2 points

Spot on. Perhaps American defense contractors should consider designing secret kill switches into all of our military tech... Because we seem to be stuck in an endless cycle of arming countries in proxy wars vs Russia/China only to turn around and have the exact weapons we gave away used on us a few years later.1 point

These numbers..... Are not in line with the US census numbers at all..... I can understand wanting a racial makeup similar to the US population but these specifically have inflated numbers for some minority demographics.... Specifically Asians (6.1 to 10%), Pacific Islander (.3 to 1.0%), and multiracial (2.9 to 7%). Whites under represented by ~10% (75.8 to 67.5%). WTF are they aiming to do with this?1 point

Original equipment or after market add ons? If you say you have said equipment, is a physical exam actually required or is your internal emotions, i.e. your feelings, telling you that you have said equipment good enough? Just trying to plot out my next career move.1 point

Sorry to hear that, you just got to keep applying and don't take it personally. They received over a hundred apps, so it's just competitive. When I was visiting a squadron, I asked what were things they looked for and one guy said most of the time it's razor thin, everybody has good scores, experience...etc they could pick a different group apps to interview depending on the day or mood. It's tough with the internet becaue they're casting a wide net, back in the day you'll just grab a drink and hang out with them and they'll think "MeekTiger is a cool cat, let's make him a pilot...etc" Also, update for the 327th, I received a phone screening, they're calling whoever made their score cutoffs, but they received well over 100 apps and only plan to invite a few for interviews since the board date is close and they don't want to waste people's time and money bringing in a bunch of people to interview. They expect to send interview invites this week.1 point

They were built from the ground up with J-85's although I believe the prototype (YAT-37D) was a T-37 with J-85's replacing the original J-69 engines. Note the screen below the intake. It would come up on engine start to protect the engine from FOD and retract on TO. Yes, one engine could be shut down when loitering. Configured (normal) as it is in the photo, it carried more external fuel than it did internally. Huggy is a very lucky guy as the plane is fun to fly and has no bad flt characteristics.1 point

Jesus fucking Christ, top gun Maverick may have been one of the best movies I've ever seen, and I did not like the first one. Whatever ancient movie writing formula they pulled out of the closet to make Maverick, I hope they don't lose it again. No message, no franchise, just a hero, a challenge, and a victory. Awesome.1 point

Trading has been brutal, though still rewarding for those willing to be aggressive in their trades. In terms of total compensation (pay + 401k + per diem) I've made just over $100k this summer (June/July/August). That's 508 hours of pay, however 94 hours came from just two trips (4 day and 2 day) in July from the much publicized 300% meltdown. Dallas based 737 first officer.1 point
