That's because it's not a homeless problem, it's a drug problem. There is a ton of money being spent on it, but it will do nothing because no one wants to admit that we need forcibly imprison the homeless and subject them to compulsory rehab, and reestablish the insane asylums for those who are too far gone to treat. We can work on that problem and support Ukraine at the same time.3 points

You knew when they started correlating your ID card to your purchases to your PT test that it was only a matter of time. Your next PHA is going to have a list of your groceries next to your BMI. "I'm sorry, sir. I know you have knee pain after your time as an 82nd ALO, but because you ate a box of Twinkies, your knee pain is grocery - not service - related. 0%"3 points

Nope. There's about 5-6 kwh worth of space on top of a big rig. Volvo's prototype (link) has a battery capacity of 540 kwh. The efficiency numbers in that article don't match their range numbers, and their average speed was 50mph, but regardless you're talking a ~4% increase in energy over a four hour drive range. To put the energy needed for a truck into perspective: the average home solar installation is about 8.5kwh. Electric truck stops are looking to be at megawatt levels to get a charge done over lunch.1 point

Yeah, conservation of energy, aka There is No Such Thing as a Free Lunch. If you have an electric car, and try one of those power generation ideas (windmill on the roof, generator on the wheels, etc), the losses you experience from drag and friction are more than the power you generate. Exception being the "regenerative braking" setups, where some of the power is recaptured when you're braking. You're recapturing the energy that would normally be lost to heat and friction with the brakes.1 point

First off. I'm glad we're spending money in the Ukraine. To answer your first question. Because nobody cares. What other brain busters do you have for me? Edit: I reread my post and I can see how it's confusing to you Pawnman. I'm not implying that we should take money from Ukraine and use it to help the homeless. I was trying to show how the government doesn't really care about domestic issues like homelessness. Because if they did, it would only take a little "budget dust" to help them. If we have money for all of the foreign aid we provide to the rest of the world. And if what we are spending in Ukraine is merely budget dust, then surely we could have helped solve some problems in our own country with a little dust as well. I should have clarified that in my previous post. I don't mind spending money to help get rid of Putin. Not one bit.1 point

Cars already have an alternator that uses some engine power to create electricity. Putting more drag on a car with a RAT, or causing more friction (i.e. increased energy expenditure to move the car) by putting an alternator on the axle does not provide a benefit…unless the device only works when you want to slow down in which case you’re describing the hybrid design manufacturers have been using for 20 years.1 point

Emergency power/hydraulics from a RAT come at the expense of increased drag. Extend your range on the other hand? Are you unfamiliar with the concept of conservation of energy? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

To Nsplayr’s point, I volunteer with Young Eagles when I can; over the years I think I’m up to about 3 or 4 black kids who, when asked, “so what’d you think man, want to be a pilot now!?” responded with, “well I can’t be a pilot because I’m black.” Wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t been the one they were talking to. So why’d they answer that way? Well, the short of it is they’ve been fed a complete bullshit lie about life, this country, and the people in it. And unfortunately after a little more talking to them, my feeling has been they’ve received most/all of the bullshit POV from friends and relatives, NOT from the KKK guy down the street shouting slurs at them. The communities they live in are so uninformed/misinformed and continue to internally propagate completely false narratives against themselves. To that end, I completely support outreach/educational efforts in these communities - I want every minority kid to know they can be a pilot if they so choose, and at the end of their adolescence road, I have no problem if none of these kids are selected if they don’t make the bar, but if they do make the bar, then welcome on board and I’m glad to have you! Now, quotas and going for specific percentages - that’s bullshit and a complete miss. Targeted informational outreach and recruiting, but without any affirmative action bullshit, would be a good thing.1 point

Seriously! WTF?!? Little Debbie snacks are being retired from service at military commissaries Pour one out for Little Debbie. The snack line, which includes Zebra Cakes, frosted mini donuts, and other cornerstones of commissary cuisine, will soon no longer be stocked at U.S. military bases...0 points

1945 had a pretty good summation of our strategy in Ukraine and pretty much everywhere else too: Civilian leadership: Just do something, anything, I don't know just something and right now. Military: Ok What Is America's Goal for the Ukraine War? Answer: We Don't Have One - 19FortyFive The cost to the United States for all these failures has been profound – and now we’re creating a new mission without a clear objective and no identifiable end state. Where things are right now: Not to be dismissive of the Ukrainians rightful cause against aggression but our interests are involved too as we are their patron keeping them from being defeated, but it's time for this to end. Bleeding Russia to the last Ukranian is not a good idea in the long run and Europe hence a huge portion of the world's economy is getting unstable, food prices, energy prices and inflation, etc... besides I'm not convinced we are weakening Russia to the extent we think we are. No Russian presence west of the Dnieper River and cede the Donbas to the Russians. End hostilities with an armistice and an enduring US military mission in Ukraine. No formal peace, no further kinetic actions, another Korea. Best we can do.-2 points
