It's crazy that anyone who has been in the military more than 6-9 years, and who has taken part in the wars of the last two decades, has a blind acceptance of everything the government does.6 points

Too bad the US Govt didn't have a lab to better investigate "a non-toxic defoliant". Military people were ordered to work with Agent Orange and deliver it. And they saluted smartly and did. But eventually, the negligence of the Govt became known. A lot of people got sick, a lot died, and a lot of taxpayer money was spent in the process. Just because the military CAN order something doesn't mean they should.4 points

I still fail to understand the mandate outrage from military members. The military can literally order you on an ALR-extreme suicide mission in some bullshit war halfway around the world. Of course they don't have your best interests at heart. The military can mandate things about your fitness, alcohol consumption, drug use, grooming standards, and they can even put you in jail for things that are perfectly legal in the civilian world. And you signed up for it. No one made you. So if they need you to be vaxxed so the rotator doesnt get held up by a customs shitshow at your deployed location.. tough cookies. Do I think the mandates did anything? No. Do I trust the government or big pharma? Also No. Do I think the vaccine risks are zero? Also no. But the military mandated it for a multitude of reasons, some bad and some less bad. And in the grand scheme of things a 84% increase in a 0.01% chance of maybe getting myocarditis doesn't even register on the scale of things that are actual health dangers. Id believe the "my body is a temple" argument a lot more if it weren't for the bro-science pre-workout powder, twice-a-year cardio regimen, 7 shots at roll call, 3 monsters, and a pack of zyns per day. Because I promise all of those things are far worse for your heart.3 points

SF deserves this. Perhaps, instead of enjoying the Blue Angels, they can enjoy staring at the formations of homeless people shitting on the sidewalks. I think it's funny how that place is literally turning into a pile of dung.3 points

Hey Peach! Congratulations on your selection - that is a very big deal!! And definitely go take that airline job. More than likely OTS and UPT are well over a year away, so your probation year will be over, however, even if it wasn’t, they can’t fire you for being on military orders, even as a probie. USERRA applies to every member of the guard and reserve, the day you swear in. We all had a guard guy or two in our UPT class who would tell us all how much their seniority has climbed while at UPT, and we all sat there listening, green with envy. You are NOT taking advantage of your airline by serving your country. Get that out of your head immediately. Trust me, your airline will gladly take advantage of you as you are sitting reserve for them. Do not bring up your guard selection unless they ask. Unless you’re working for the smallest airline on earth, they already have hundreds of guard pilots on their roster and will not even notice your absence for a few years. Then you show back up and Viola - you’re a line holder or ready to upgrade to Captain! Welcome aboard.2 points

On one hand, it's an app/site that you can connect most (maybe all?) your bank(s)/investment/retirement accounts/credit cards/debts to and it'll show you all your ca$h monie$ in one spot. It can be used to track expenses to help budget/catch where you may waste money and it can show your net worth. It can be useful, if you find yourself in need of such things. DISCLAIMER: I've not used it in quite a few years, so maybe it'll wash your car now, too, with all the new features since I last messed with it. On the other hand, you're allowing one huge financial corp (Intuit, who owns TurboTax, Quickbooks, and who knows what other financial stuff) to have ALLLLLLL of your financial information. I'm guessing they use it to track enough of your metrics that would to make your head spin with that much access to your complete financial picture. Your net worth, spending habits, when/where/what you spend your money, debts, etc. that I'm sure is quite the valuable swath of info on a consumer you're allowing them access, track, and sell to others. On that end, I steer clear, cause Gator don't play.1 point

I know a couple oil field experts… So discussion as to “why is big oil recording record profits…” comes from them making a deliberate effort to grow cash reserves that had been depleted over the last few years. A large driver in doing this is the expected drop in leasable well heads and lands to do exploratory drilling under the shift in administrations. The anticipation is that with lower leasable heads the price per well will jump and the company without the free cash to go after them will be left out of the dwindling available US market. The oil companies are literally planning for the rainy day that the admin is telegraphing is coming whether they like it or not, and we as consumers are paying for it. So yes, the President does have a hand in this along with OPEC, taxes by region, and supply lines and every other talking point issue on why gas costs so much. Short answer, no. i use Fidelity full view. I manually input my TSP balance as fully invested in S&P 500 index because I’m 100% C. It tracks decently well with my actual TSP balance. I can’t wait to roll my TSP into a more user friendly account.1 point

And then all Biden’s opponent has to do is play on repeat videos of Afghans falling off a C-17. If America re-elects Biden after that….we’ll as they say, we get the government we deserve.1 point

Years ago I had them for my primary and one of my rentals in Florida. They sent notice that they were cancelling my rental coverage in six months. Two funny events followed: 1. I immediately found another company for the rental, at a lower rate. I called USAA to cancel early and they pushed back. They also insisted I provide a copy of the new coverage AND the rate I was paying. The house was paid off and they had ZERO right to know that data so a nice argument ensued on the phone with a very pushy agent. I got nasty, told them to fuck off and cancel my coverage. 2. After the event above I wrote a note saying I was going to move all of my investments out of USAA. I actually got a call about a week later from a VP on the investment side telling me there was nothing they could do about it. I told him I appreciate the call and FYI I will move everything out of USAA next month to which he actually chuckled and replied "we hope you won't do that." The next week I moved a very substantial portfolio from USAA to Morgan Stanley. A few days later that same VP called me and was incredulous, "you moved everything out of USAA, why would you do that?" I then chuckled and said " I told you in my note I was going to do it, I told you on the phone I was going to do it and you are shocked I did it, seriously?" He tried to give me a list of reasons to come back and I hung up on him.1 point

This! The DOD needs to just move on from this shit. 99.9% of my base being vaxed didn't stop the multiple outbreaks we had post vaxings. In the case of the above posted article, it may have directly contributed to the death of an otherwise healthy pilot. It sounds like that unit has a quite a few pilots who are not vaxed. Doesn't seem to be impacting them all that much...1 point

I was at a school board meeting where a black conservative spoke; some Woke white woman said, “that’s racist.” I shouted out, “I thought black people couldn’t be racist?!” Half the room clapped and cheered, the other half imploded and nailed the “toddler tantrum” vibe. Its like you can almost see the wires in their brain short circuiting and start to smoke. It was hilarious.1 point

Great question and one that hasn't been answered yet. In AMC's defense they do appear to be adapting to Mini's new emphasis of "lethality." Go back to last year when KC-Y was first suggested, that program flowed out of a CONOP study that showed a shortage in the number of tankers given to effectively service our toughest CONOPs (read INDOPACOM). That program identified the need for 300 more tankers...kind of staggering that we have let it get to that point but when you retire KC-135's, retire the KC-10 and the KC-36 is YEARS behind schedule you may have trouble executing your highest demand CONOP. KC-Y was written to address that gap but from a legacy CONOP employment perspective, likely the reason it died so quickly. Here is the major issue in my uniformed attack pilot mentality. AMC is a very corporate big blue organization, the largest consumer of jet fuel in the world, as such for many years they approach tanker contracts from a cost to provide a pound of gas on station. I get it...economies of scale is a valid point to consider but this is combat and the economies of scale model comes at the expense of combat capability. This methodology leads to ever bigger tankers that carry a massive payload of gas very efficiently. The problem with this model in PACOM is that it relies on large bases (runways), that must be protected. Specific to INDOPACOM we have settled on a fortress Guam strategy that is unsmart. If this goes hot over Taiwan Guam is going to eat 1,000 TBMs with sub 3 meter accuracy, to think a few patriot batteries are going to save the runway, the aircraft, the infrastructure is complete lunacy. Agile Combat Employment and austere operations has been talked about for several years but the only real action taken in the past few years is to harden and lengthen the runway at Tinian....wonderful, that is a bit northeast of Guam and now they can eat a bunch of TBMs as well. What is needed is an approach that dilutes the Chinese advantage in TMBs and increases the ability to present survivable gas where needed. Switching to a strategy that flips the calculus back on the Chinese means your requirements and criteria should be centered on combat capability rather than economies of scale. It appears USAF/AMC have decided to focus all attention on KC-Z with a family of systems approach which I applaud. Yes we need big wing tankers to provide large offloads, we also need blended wing LO tankers that can enable our 5th and 6th gen fighters as well as the B-2 and B-21. I think we also need a tactical tanker that provides flexibility and options. The ability to provide large amounts of gas from MULTIPLE approach axis without relying on large runways has a HUGE strategic benefit. Now that USAF/AMC have settled on KC-Y, I expect exercises, studies and experimentation that will test these ideas and shape requirements for the RFP that will come in a few years.1 point

There was at the time. Even if it didn't kill you, CDC was recommending 10 days of isolation. Not to mention isolating close contacts for a week. Then there are the political considerations. Not the left-right politics... the politics of being able to move US military members into countries with full-on vaccine mandates for travelers. Sure, you could probably seek a waiver, but that's all time and effort you don't want to spend when you're scrambling to rapidly deploy assets across the globe. Do I think we could drop it now? Probably. Do I think people still refusing the vaccine over something petty like the wrong brand name are more likely to be troublemakers than people with actual sincere beliefs? Absolutely. Gonna be a moot point as this crop separates and/or retires. Current recruiting guidance is no vaccine, no enlistment/ commission. AFROTC won't even consider unvaccinated cadets for a commissioning slot. They can participate the first two years, then be on their way.-1 points
