Right.. unless they wanted to work a normal job, or travel to a big city, or visit their kids in school, or see their dying father in hospice, or take a cruise, or visit the doctor, or apply to college, etc. Democrats mandated this ineffective vaccine and colluded with big tech to censor scientific questions. I took it when ordered to and don’t like it but am not complaining; just like anthrax and all the other shit, it’s the cost of my chosen profession. Copy. I am complaining about my wife being forced to take it or be fired from her teaching job, and I am complaining that the hospital wouldn’t let my unvaxed son visit his grandad one last time before I pulled life support. Utter disgrace what was forced on this country, and disingenuous for anyone to pretend it wasn’t a democrat mandate. ETA: it’s gotten better now, especially in FL. But things went full retard for 2 years and democrats should be held accountable.9 points

So there’s this whiny FGO in my squadron that seems like he doesn’t want to fly with me. I’m the DO, and I have a ‘go-fly’ list of people I want to fly with. I specifically ask Skeds to put us together, but every time we end up on the schedule together he takes “emergency” leave or says he can’t clear his ears. I’m pretty much the best pilot in the squadron, if not the wing, so I know I can show him a thing or two. When I talk to my life-size doll of Robin Olds, (that I keep in my office) his mustache speaks to me and says I should just smash his soul out of his body. Oh whatever should I do? These damn millennials…4 points

Absolute HORSESHIT! The government mandated all civilian employees get the vaccine. The government mandated all employees of any company that has a government contract get the vaccine. It is one thing to force military members to get an experimental vaccine in the name of national defense and readiness, quite another force civilians and loosely related contractors. This was an enormous over-reach by some power hungry extremists.4 points

A quick search shows 9 hits for China, 46 for PRC, 71 for Russia, 2 for extremism, 6 for extremist, 1 for nationalism, 1 mention of the word white, in reference to “White House,” nothing about January 6th, 2 mentions of diversity and 2 of inclusion with regards to the military. You do get 20 instances of Climate Change, so congrats. So where did you come up with your premise? Happy Friday, ya'll! After two years of applying, rushing, and interviewing, I am blessed and humbled to say that I was selected for a UPT slot with my dream unit. Before being selected, I had one alternate selection (at a different unit) and a handful of interviews that didn't pan out. I owe a tremendous debt to these forums and for many of you who offered guidance and help along the way. I'm excited to chase my lifelong dream and finally say that all of the hard work and countless weekends of travel paid off. I would be thrilled to assist anyone who is currently chasing a UPT slot, and if I can't answer your questions, I'd be happy to connect you to someone who can. It's an honor and a privilege to be in this position and I am excited for the future. Cheers!2 points

Except the government leaned on those companies to act that way. Just like the government curtailed free-speech by leaning on social media companies to stay for debate or questions about vaccine efficacy.2 points

That was my point in the first reply. Sanctions are not etched in stone. As the political winds shift (and they are), sanctions can easily be lifted. The German government, and likely other EU nations, were feeling immense pressure to ease restrictions from the populace. However, permanent physical destruction completely eliminates that option. There's now nothing to protest. In addition, the brand new Baltic Pipe that I posted about on the first page, was a huge beneficiary of the sabotage. It was opened on the same day Nordstream was destroyed. It crosses over the Nordstream and delivers natural gas exactly to where? Sweden. That's not to say that they did it. I realize the article doesn't prove anything, but it adds new information. I believe a report could easily be prepared that doesn't reveal sources and methods, but strangely, they want to withhold all findings. All I want to know is who is intentionally being deceptive. Be it Russia, EU nations acting in concert, or NATO, this was pretty shady operation of consequence.1 point

It's all rather fascinating. I still think there's a pretty decent chance Russia did it, but I'm more open to Western actors being responsible. Here's something I didn't know until recently, though it is obvious once you hear it. The destruction of these (any) pipelines have a pretty devastating effect on the Russian ability to raise money, primarily because the production capacity that feeds these pipelines cannot be easily diverted to other transportation methods. So if the pipeline goes down, that region of energy production goes dormant, with the associated income. Can't just sell it to India or China, since the pipeline was the only method of transportation. Not the case with oil, which is very transportable. That puts a clearer incentive on Western involvement, though it still doesn't answer the question of why blow it up when you can just sanction it into oblivion? Those pipelines can only deliver to Europe, so if Europe says "no," the pipeline is effectively dead anyways, including the associated production. Now, counter point, of Sweden is using Intel in the investigation, the results could give away sources and methods that are still quite engaged in the conflict. So I don't think this article is as damning as you want it to be.1 point

So…. Morale and the wiling support of your Sol… excuse me, Airmen isn’t just some farcical concept, it’s an expendable item no different than fuel, or parts on hand, etc. The sooner leadership realizes that pissing away general moral for their own victories in “see I made an order and they followed it!” The better. The military can absolutely order all of us to do a lot of things, some of them stupid/pointless and some of them even lethal in consequence. It could by the very construct of lawful orders also institute draconian curfews and restrict all the personnel to base/post if the leadership really wanted to. We saw a lot of that kind of dumb “I can do this so I will” kind of actions when you had divisional commanders make policy like no you can’t go to a restaurant regardless of vaccination because I said so. We are only know between bad ideas and cover their ass policies understanding that dumb ideas like that are a lousy hill to chose to die on in an organization that disbanded flogging and summery executions long ago so yeah in a lot of ways you issue orders and they obey an oath. That is because the expectation those issued orders are followed is a form of capital (ie morale and support) that is finite. Yes men and women will charge up that hill or go in that no fail mission where they aren’t likely to return without vocalizing questions or stopping, that’s the accepted standard we have between our leaders and their subordinate groups that have to follow them. But they do that because you DIDNT piss away that expendable capital on dumb shit like making people do something dumb thats reasoning is built on shaky justifications because it was the politically required thing to do. Stop spending your finite resource to make your people do something just because you said so as a reason, and acknowledge it is finite. Or at the very least openly say to your people “yes this is dumb, but it’s mandated by the civilians that run this dog and pony show.” Don’t pretend it’s some secret science of risk mitigation that only people with stars understand. That’s as dumb as saying you will all write left handed now for your own safety and if you don’t there will be consequences.1 point

Too bad the US Govt didn't have a lab to better investigate "a non-toxic defoliant". Military people were ordered to work with Agent Orange and deliver it. And they saluted smartly and did. But eventually, the negligence of the Govt became known. A lot of people got sick, a lot died, and a lot of taxpayer money was spent in the process. Just because the military CAN order something doesn't mean they should.1 point

Timing is everything. Does it get any clearer? Polish and Danish Prime Ministers held a public ceremony to open the Baltic Pipe line on the same day Nordstream 2 was destroyed. From the article: "Leaders from Poland, Norway and Denmark have attended a ceremony to mark the opening of the new Baltic Pipe, a key stage in the drive to wean Poland and Europe off Russian gas. The pipeline will transport natural gas from the Norwegian shelf via Denmark and through the Baltic Sea to Poland. It is the centrepiece of a Polish strategy to diversify away from Russia that began years before Moscow’s February invasion of Ukraine triggered a global energy crisis. The flows from Norway along with supplies via liquefied gas terminals are central to Poland's plan. The country was cut off from Russian gas supplies in April, allegedly for refusing to pay in roubles. "The era of Russian domination in the field of gas is coming to an end, the era that was marked by blackmail, threats and extortion," Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at the inauguration at Budno in western Poland. Norwegian Energy Minister Terje Aasland said it was "an important step on the important road to Europe's independence from Russian energy". "We must do everything we can to eliminate energy as an instrument of Russian power," added Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. "Together we will defeat Putin." https://www.euronews.com/2022/09/27/baltic-pipe-norway-poland-gas-pipeline-opens-in-key-move-to-cut-dependency-on-russia1 point

Alright... I'll come out of retirement for this one... been watching the discussion for awhile now, so I guess it's time to weigh in. Be careful where you get your sources from-- the "anonymous Hog Driver" quoted by The Aviationist in the 1945 article is a long-time F-16 pilot who only recently converted to the A-10... and is a big advocate of a particular unit converting back to Vipers in the near future. The discussion of the gun seems shocking to anyone who's never flown the A-10... ermahgerd.... you mean it's not good against armor in the face? As Paul Harvey so eloquently put it... and now, for the rest of the story... The study referenced here and many other places is based on the LAVP (lot acceptance verification program) that began in 1975. The study was written in 1979, but the bulk of LAVP occurred between 1978 and 1980. Why does that matter? Because the systems on board the A-10 at that time were DRASTICALLY different than what is on the aircraft now. The aircraft at that time were non-LASTE (Low Altitude Safety and Targeting Enhancement), meaning that the pilots essentially employed iron sights without the benefit of PAC (precision attitude control, which essentially ”locks” the primary flight controls to hold the pipper on the aimpoint and get better bullet density). In other words, the system has gotten BETTER over the years. MUCH better. Some quotes from the test: “Only 93 passes were made in high-rate due to restrictions; and all passes after November 1979 were further limited to low-rate, 1 second bursts. Although not ideal for bullet density, all ammunition fired for LAVP was pure API, not combat mix.” In other words, the results were limited by the test parameters of the time. Even given those constraints, “Of first importance, all the Pk’s were HIGHER than expected; and the low-angle were comparable to the high angle.” A final key note relates to the non-LASTE nature of the test: ”hits usually did not occur after the 25th round fired.” That’s a situation that has been rectified with modern upgrades to the airframe. As the text follows, “ LASTE enables burst length and density to INCREASE through the use of a constantly computed impact point (CCIP) and PAC“. In other words, the gun was good back then, it’s even better now. For the "shocking" part... ALL Hog Drivers are taught that we don't shoot tanks in the face if we can avoid it-- that's where the machines are designed to be the most effective in terms of armor, so naturally we train to hit them from the side, top, or rear. You don't always get that option in combat, so M or F kills are just as acceptable-- any EFFECT that degrades the enemy's ability to fight is a positive step in combat. If you think that Pk of 1.0 is widespread, you're watching too many movies and not spending enough time in the vault. Here's another kicker: the gun isn't the first choice against armor for many Hog Drivers. Gasp! The maverick missile, which was designed simultaneously with the A-X program as a PRIMARY munition for the new A-X, provides much better effects, some standoff, and precision capability. Given the right circumstances and approval, the Hog can sling six of those, rifling three on a single pass. Think about that-- a PLATOON or armor, completely wiped out by a single Hog on two passes. A 4 ship can render a battalion of armor combat non-effective on 2 passes with that loadout, and we haven't even gone to the gun yet. Now, back to the original discussion of the thread. Could the A-10 survive and be effective in Ukraine? Absolutely. In American hands, in the American way of major combat ops. Turns out, the Hog community has been training side by side with every aspect of the USAF in major exercises for the last 40 years. If the Hog was truly an unsurvivable liability as proven in every Red Flag and ME (now WSINT) vul, you bet your ass that Corporate Blue would have trotted those stats out immediately. I can recall many a RF vul thinking to myself as a Sandy One... "gawddamn... I'd have my hands full after this round..." ... and none of them were Hogs. Our way of fighting is an overwhelming, integrated approach to these kind of operations. Hogs might be slower, so we launch first, land last, and often times can make it happen without siphoning off tanker gas that the other guys need. If you haven't read many of the open-source articles written by some Hog Drivers that occasionally pop up, then you may not be familiar with the applications currently being explored out west-- adding SDB (16 per jet), MALD, and potentially JASSM to the Hog makes it an incredible support asset that makes 5th Gen even more lethal-- freeing them up to do their thing while the swine saturates the battlefield. And the kicker is that even once the Hog launches all that "new" stuff, depending on the loadout, she still has enough weapons to engage up to 20 targets. Each. Now, if you send the Hogs into a fight alone, with less-than-optimum weapons, without SA, without SEAD (neither side has dedicated SEAD/DEAD assets), without effective tactics (both sides are, shall we say, less than impressive), and without training (how long does it take to train up ANY pilot to this level of warfare), then the results will be predictable. And I'll throw it out here since it's been floated on other sites: you send the Ukrainians ANY of our fighters, give them minimal time to get fam'd with it, maybe don't provide them the best weapons we have, and the results will be the same-- disaster. Tactics, training, and operational integration are key to major combat ops. They don't have it, so it really doesn't matter WHAT weapon you put in their inventory.1 point

Then maybe consider not re-posting the adversary’s propaganda. You don’t like the current politicians running the country. Fine. You don’t like them so much you’re willing to amplify Russian propaganda (Don’t fool yourself. That’s EXACTLY what you’re doing.)? Not fine. You’re falling into the Russian trap. You know, the one where they amplify our political and cultural differences & try to convince us that the real enemy is the hipster in the pussy hat or the neighbor with the gun collection and not the belligerent dictator seizing land & committing atrocities overseas? Putin’s an ocean away after all. What threat could he possibly be to us when we have so many existential threats right in our own neighborhoods?
