Who did everything his campaign promised, produced the strongest American economy ever, and was willing to hold other countries responsible for their bad behavior while starting no wars. Weird. What a terrible guy.4 points

This past year of watching my kid go through traditional UPT (not 2.5) was somewhat eye opening to me as I got the first-hand account of training, syllabus, etc. Some of it was good... a lot of is wasn't. Huggy Jr graduated with 65 hours in the T-6 and 72 in the T-1. Wow... that just seems incredibly low, and with a lot less solo time than I remember during my years in Training Command. I went though Vance earlier this year and got a look at the virtual trainers, as well as getting to talk to the T-6 IP's there. My impression is they are well on the way to finding some really good, new ways to train future UPT students. Some of the stories from the T-6 IP's I spoke with were very enlightening and positive. As usual, it sounds like the line IP's are doing a great job with what they are given. Much like Edison trying to invent the light bulb... AETC is going to make a lot of mistakes as they create 2.5. And yes, they will learn and adjust from them. The eventual solution should be a much better UPT... hopefully soon. Of course, that's assuming they fund it properly and actually quit skimping on training for the sake of the All Holy Time Line. Until AETC started moving toward these new training methodologies, UPT really hadn't changed much in over 50 years. I'd say it was time to find a better way to do things. The road to change isn't easy. I'm confident AETC will be successful... the question is when will that happen?3 points

The product being produced today is noticeably worse than 5 years ago. The cuts to syllabus flying times have been substantial. no student needs to be PAing an already reduced flying hour syllabus. the written in stone argument is one you made up. Not sure where that came from.2 points

We stupidly got ourselves into a situation where Taiwan has the lion’s share of semiconductor manufacturing. Allowing China to control that monopoly would be a disaster. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Bro, I agree on all points. But violence is a funny thing. It’s a risk/reward calculation between using too little or too much. I think we use too little in Africa to achieve our objectives. And using too little is worse than none at all, it hardens enemy resolve and dilutes partner trust when it takes 45 min & 4FWIA to get a single hellfire on tgt. Philosophically, when using violence I’d prefer we start with too much then throttle back if required. We do the opposite because it’s better politics, but it’s worked precisely no where.2 points

Decide what success looks like to you and understand the consequences of pursuing that. Want to be a big shot lawyer that makes alot of money AND be a good pilot in the F-35? Don’t lie to yourself that you’ll be Father/Husband of the year because you won’t. You’ll be slammed with time requirements and your family will have to bear that burden. Want to go to all the soccer games/tea parties? Serve your country by being a good citizen and raising good Americans. Don’t go be a pilot. Just be a lawyer and a family man. Want to look yourself in the mirror at the end of the day and not want to vomit? Drop out of law school and go be a pilot (kidding…kind of). Just have some frank and honest conversations with yourself and/or significant other if you care about their input and go from there.1 point

No one is advocating that it be "a replacement for the plane or even a sim". It is one of many "tools" available. If used correctly, many believe it is an excellent training tool. We have a new U-2 pilot here that come from a UPT base as a T-6 instructor. He told me about a student's Dollar Ride after training in the VR device: said student took off, went to the MOA, was able to stay in the MOA, did a VFR recovery and actually found the VFR Entry point without any IP assistance, and got the plane to Initial. I'd call that "a significant data point", and shows that the VR device may have a time and place in the UPT syllabus.1 point

Any bets on how many races get put into the "they cheated" category after the election for the next two years until complaining can resume about cheating in the presidential election again? My guess is about 5.1 point

What's the latest on this program? Are the 6 initial cadre still all going to Laughlin? The first 3 of 6 are supposed to be hired in the coming weeks... but it's been rather quiet. When I inquired back in June, I was told I was 35 years beyond the cutoff. As you might guess, I was triggered... but I'm ok now.1 point

I agree on Dr. Oz, but hell, his opponent is a guy who can't put a sentence together and looks like an extra from Sons of Anarchy.1 point

We might be paying more for gas and groceries, our investments are cratering, and the southern border is a myth but at least we don't to put up with mean tweets. Well done.1 point

Most of them didn’t vote “for him”, but rather “against Trump.” Trump’s administration did some amazing things…most on the left couldn’t get around his personality and antics. Call it TDS, call it a too politically correct society, etc, but his personality did get in the way of the great ideas he did have. Sleepy Joe was like your weird but harmless uncle. Now two years later we are seeing however……1 point

Heartily disagree. Course training standards exist for each block, and if a student can consistently meet or exceed CTS they should PA to the end of that block. I've seen tons of gradesheets for above average students where it's firewall MIF or better for the 3-4 straight rides approaching the end of block or a checkride. Do those 3-4 Firewall mif rides provide more experience which will yield a slightly better product at the end of UPT? Of course. More time under your ass will always be a good thing. But this idea that there's a certain number of sorties written in stone that it takes to make a pilot is just not true. Some people are going to need more, some people are going to need less, and some people will never get it no matter how many rides you give them. But if you force everyone to do the same number of sorties regardless of ability, you're literally doing no child left behind but with airplanes.1 point

Global strike actually had an initiative going to develop a syllabus for 12B to 11X since the WSO/Nav positions are going away. Similar to an 18x you have a lot of experience there to leverage and anecdotally CSOs excel in legacy pilot training. But from what I understand Gen Willis in his infinite wisdom took personal issue with the proposed syllabus not having originated from AETC, so it didn't go anywhere.1 point

Still some good work getting done when possible. https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/somalia-says-it-killed-al-shabaab-co-founder-2022-10-03/ VEOs on a continent as large and diverse as Africa are going to exist. TBH I’m a fan of relatively minimal force being used in order to support friendly governments and “mow the grass” when it comes to the very worst guys. Otherwise these dudes don’t pose that great of a threat to the US and I don’t think we should spend a ton of brain bites opposing them. Over-the-horizon intel collect with very occasional strikes or raids is not a bad strategy for an AOR that’s at absolute maximum 4th in importance right now. Continued economic development in Africa is the biggest thing that would move the needle toward relative peace and stability - let’s facilitate that whenever possible.1 point

The problem with ignoring a Chinese attempt to take over Taiwan is the same potential problem with ignoring a Russian takeover of Ukraine. Operating under the assumption that the hostilities will end at that point is dangerous. By the time you realize your own takeover was part of the plan, your adversary could be in a much more capable position. I also concede that your adversary might end up in a much weaker position as well. Russia is a good example of that. Waiting for their position as the indisputable bad guy before dumping advanced weaponry and training on Ukraine has allowed us to maintain the high ground while systematically slaughtering the Russian military, without a single American life lost. However, I would be shocked if that was a premeditated plan. The West seems to bumble through all foreign interactions at this point. What China does over the next few years is going to determine everything. As Cleared Hot showed, they have put themselves into an economic and demographic catastrophe. If it is even possible to fix that, it will be a delicate operation. Extending themselves by attacking Taiwan would probably not help. But they are better long-term thinkers than we, so who knows?1 point

So is "being kind to your fellow man" and "honesty and integrity". But I see no need to have a dedicated office for each of those two wonderful concepts, run by a senior NCO who can provide programs on how I can do them better.1 point

Anything where you’re working (no pun intended) towards a goal by tackling a challenge and can make it a positive story is not going to negatively impact getting an interview. Lots of people get laid off, so having an interim job while you try getting to another is not a death knell.1 point

Agreed with LL. I’ve been on a ton of UPT boards. I’d much rather see a young applicant working at Taco Bell than one not working at all, receiving the gov cheese, all while getting their student loans covered. If you had a good job, that you worked hard for, and it went away, and now you’re paying the bills while actively trying for something better shows a lot of character.1 point
