Trump’s political window has ended. The 2016 campaign was unique, because Hilary was despised by many more than him. Since his first term, and the years since then, the voters he needs (youth and suburban moms) will not vote for Trump. It benefits no one, besides his ego, to keep him in the conversation. His schtick has gotten old and tired. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app7 points

I think another big reason for the wave in FL is all the people who have moved there in the past couple years fleeing dumpster fire states ran by Dems. They know how bad it is to live in a state with shit policies, so they voted accordingly. I really hope Desantis runs and Trump exits stage right (forced if required). The biggest problem besides his ego preventing a clean exit is the 60+ crowd in the GOP who keep feeding his ego. They are equally responsible for continuing to push the “Trump 2024” mantra.5 points

The absolute irony is Uncle Joe stood at the podium and screamed MAGA was a threat to democracy while his party spent millions promoting those same MAGA candidates in the primaries. Maintain power by any means possible.4 points

Fair assessment. My statement on age comes from my own experiences in two states (in the recent years where I’ve become far more active in the community). The GOP groups are predominantly 60+ year old people who fit the description of “angry old white man” or “granny with a shotgun.” They simply cannot relate, nor communicate, with generations younger than them. A lot of it is not even due to a disagreement in values or cultural views (some of it is, don’t get me wrong), it’s their inability to prioritize things and accept cultural shifts. “Old man yelling at cloud” doesn’t sell to the 35 yr old with 3 kids. The older generation also seems to have a difficult time separating personal morality with law. Lots of things I completely disagree with morals-wise, but should my moral opinion dictate law in all cases? The answer in my conservative mind is no, but the answer is a resounding yes in many of the 60+ minds. The younger batshit crazy ones are those who think the “old way” is still THE way. They’ve been brainwashed enough, but many of us have not. It’s up to us to get this train back on the tracks.4 points

I guess the next AZ gov won just like Biden won, just stay in basement and run from your opponent. I'm done. I no hope for my country when the young people vote the least common denominator. Cut your nuts off, sew your vagina up, kill the next generation in the womb, my body my choice except when it comes to covid vacs. The idea of a Chinese invasion of North America is a pretty epic leap for a country that can’t currently sail its navy more than a few hundred miles from its home shores. I don’t think we need to worry about putting AAA emplacements on top of the local big box store any time soon. Some of you guys have some big imaginations…3 points

In another life I and 569 others were hired to cross a picket line. None did and the union rewarded us with a decent check even though we were not yet members. Once the strike settled the company offered the 570 jobs. Stand behind the union and it will take care of you.2 points

Funny.. til you reflect for one second and remember Republican candidate quality is such hot dumpster fire garbage that they just lost to the stroke victim they're mocking. Whoopsie! Maybe next time conservatives can find a candidate whose batshit crazy factor is low enough to beat the guy that literally can't string together an English sentence. Some of us have been saying (for a few years now) the way forward for republicans is to ditch trump, 2020 denial, and going nuts on social issues. Didn't need a blown midterm election to figure that one out.2 points

I totally get the car thing & an FD RX7 is certainly a lustworthy sports car. But….like many here I’ve made my share of financial mistakes & taking on a load of debt on a car you don’t need, especially if you’re a full time student & your future isn’t secured, is probably not a smart move. Suggestion: there are some “cool” cars out there that are also practical and affordable. Think used GTI, Civic Si, Focus ST, etc. A car like that can scratch the performance car itch while also providing reliable transportation for four, fit a mountain bike in the back, and probably move you into your first apartment. If your parents are willing to help, but you want to be self sufficient, maybe see if they’re willing to do an interest free loan to get you into something reliable. Then, after you’ve been working a few years, living within your means, and (most importantly) still single (FOOT STOMP!), you can buy that RX outright, do a track oriented alignment, throw some sticky tires on, keep it garaged, & drive the beans out of it on the weekends while you put all the wear and tear of your commute on your still fun, trusty hot hatch.2 points

I wish Hindsight was wrong, but he's not. I fear the long-term repercussions from this event are going to be significant for the warbird and airshow communities. FYI, there has not been a US airshow performer mishap that has killed a spectator since 1954. US airshow rules are actually pretty well written. For example, the 1988 Ramstein Airshow disaster occurred on a maneuver that wouldn't be allowed in the US. And before someone reminds me that 10 spectators died in the Reno crash, keep in mind that was "air racing", and falls under a totally different set of rules and procedures than airshows.2 points

Not disputing any of that. Just arguing that it’s a much different story/response if they were actively targeting Polish infrastructure vs something landing where it shouldn’t have. Not saying there shouldn’t be a response, but a couple stray munitions are probably not worth committing the entire alliance to war over. If it was intentional? Different story altogether…1 point

Doesn't appear to be "rockets", and they know it was Russian...trust me...they know. Happened during a large missile attack across the country (appeared to be targeting power production and distribution). The impact site is just west of the Ukrainian border, due north of LVIV. If it was a rocket then it had to come from Belarus which would open a completely different can of worms...1 point

The Republicans need him out of the picture entirely. If he runs on a third party ticket he’ll split the conservative vote and sink the Republican candidate. That’s their main problem for the foreseeable future. They’ve created this monster and actively courted a voting block that would’ve been shunned in years prior. Now they can’t win without that block and it makes it really hard (giggidy) to push Trump and candidates like him out. I agree that DeSantis can appeal to a good portion of the Trump crowd, but if the Donald actively turns on him, he’s screwed. The Republicans have opened Pandora’s box & sold the soul of their party to win an election. Time to reap the whirlwind. And before anyone accuses me of gloating, I’m not. I want to see strong, high quality Republicans because that’ll force the Democrats to up their game too. Unfortunately, if the D’s see a split Republican ticket, they’ll have no motivation whatsoever to change the status quo.1 point

I could be wrong but it seems Trump's popularity is finally waning. Some of the local stations have were doing street interviews after the mid-terms, hardly a statistically pure poll but at least 80% of the respondents said "yeah I like Trump's policies but he needs to step aside." He already sees Desantis as a threat and has been striking out, the real polls the past few weeks reflect his concern as they have taken a dramatic swing toward Desantis. In a poll released yesterday Texas GOP voters prefer Desantis by 66%. Nationwide more than half of GOP voters prefer Desantis. It is a long two years, but maybe the end of Trump and is in sight...although we all know he won't go quietly or with any class.1 point

Great question and of course the answer is "It Depends." There are many permutations and a lot depends on what you put on each platform. You previously mentioned weight, which is a concern if you try to cram too many capabilities on one aircraft. As a point of reference I can tell you in the AEW role it is possible to have the same number of missions stations as the E-3 in a Bizjet at 50K or a bit higher for 12 hours. The same aircraft configured to meet Army ISR requirements (ARES), has a similar employment altitude and endurance. For a lot of reasons 50K is a magic number when it comes to detection so I would want to avoid adding so many capes that you give up service ceiling or endurance. Have you heard of Deterrence Through Detection? The current administration has adopted this theory for countering aggression, especially in the INDOPACOM AOR. The study I linked answers the call with a fleet of 46 long-endurance RPA's for INDOPACOM and another 46 for Europe. The number of bizjets is FAR less but it serves as a template for providing complete coverage. If you were more focused on mission applications simply enabling strike, the number would be far less. One of the data point to consider, bizjets tend to have VERY high reliability (usually above 90%), so a smaller fleet would make up for the horrendous reliability rates of the E-3, E-8, and Wedgetail (there is a reason the South Koreans are divesting Wedgetail...)1 point

As a conservative, I 100% agree with Pooter. The quality GOP candidates handed ass. The low quality candidates lost embarrassingly. Quality matters, even McConnell said it, of all people. The GOP is run by old people who appeal to…old people. It’s time for conservatives under 50 (hell I’ll take under 60), to take control of this shitshow (especially at local levels) and actually bring policies and plans to the people that they care about/want. There are millions of conservatives out there who I believe offer substantially better ideas than their Dem counterparts, but those individuals need to step up and lead - time for Grandpa and Grandma to step back and let those of us who don’t live in 1950 take a swing at the plate.1 point

All these years later, my wife still reminds me about the stupid money/time suck of my younger self’s obsession with classic muscle cars (she’s not wrong). Well, sounds like you’ve been shaking the trees for sure. Keep after it. I’m not sure why you haven’t been able to schedule another AFOQT though. It’s not like there’s a limited number of tests to hand out to people. Only limit is the twice a guy can take it. You’ve only done it once, correct? Maybe call your nearest Active Duty Officer recruiter and tell them you’d like to schedule it? As far as the unit bailing on your interview after inviting you already, that’s pretty weak. It’s their prerogative, but I certainly would have given you an explanation at least. Do you have any other disqualifying conditions such as physical limitations, arrest record, drug use, etc? Maybe go get that hockey mullet trimmed up a bit? Other than that, keep after those Officer recruiters and get those scores up. It’s too easy to say no when one has shitty scores. Finally, like I stated earlier, consider enlisting, as a flyer, in a heavy unit. You’re not going to find a bigger advantage out there - assuming you’re a good dude that they like to fly with.1 point

Indeed, but a HVAA CAP 500-1000NM NM behind a threat ring is hard to get to...Folks need to look into Bi-Static and Multi-static Radar...the future is here and it is a game changer. You are guilty of legacy AEW thinking, High flying biz jets (or what ever solution we settle on), does NOT have to get close, in fact, large stand off distance actually helps. the real advantage of BIZ jets is the ability to get high and see even further. That is why I argued against Wedgetail...that platform can get to the mid-30's at best. The key is going to be keeping links functional along with edge processing. Yes the Chicoms will turn off space (to a degree), but there are ways around that which is why we see the emphasis on JADC2. Being forward is important as an enabler, but we no longer have to press the HVAA cap as far forward as possible.1 point

Big optical illusion. Wreckage was closer to hitting traffic on the freeway, than aircraft on the runway. In fairness, that too is a good thing in that it didn't do the former either btw. Otherwise it truly would be good night irene for the volunteer-dependent experimental carve out warbird flying outfits. I'd put money on that, knowing what does and doesn't make the FAA pick up their one-hammer-all-nails, petty functionary asses from up their banker's hour GS-13 desks. Some folks on the inside baseball side of this dumpster fire of a hobby, fear the plan that has been mulled for decades, i.e that of imposing de facto part 135 impositions on these experimental-ETP letter outfits, may finally materialize as a result of this mess. Which as I've already pointed out, would be exit right for everybody involved, as volunteer-dependent organizations with little in the way of insurance self-sufficiency otherwise. In non-airline land, insurance rules the roost, not the FAA.1 point

Fuck this administration. The dude’s pride and joy company has been launching NRO satellites for years and now that he’s taken over Twitter and doesn’t like Biden an investigation is “standard procedure”. You mean you couldn’t figure out if he was a national security risk before he signed a contract to launch classified satellites? The hilarious thing is Musk isn’t even really a right leaning guy. Not all that long ago the left was drooling over him because he created the most successful electric car company and his personal views align with a lot of their stated climate goals. But now that he’s differed from the party line somewhere else, he’s public enemy number one. So much for the “Unity” message, but we’ve known that’s trash for awhile, and if you don’t toe the line to this administration, you are clearly an extremist.1 point

Down vote bro...lol? Come on you know that shit was funny. BTW my community has had its share of people like that guy. For the record, I have mad respect for the DRACO community. Many of those plank holders are close friends. I am well aware of the sacrifices they made and the quality of leadership that stood up that program. Also, getting them in the WIC was one of the best things we ever did (I fought hard for it). It is awesome to see the all the DRACOs spreading into leadership positions and having so much an impact in the community.1 point

“Conservatives have to talk to liberals”. Have you seen what happens when conservative speakers show up on college campuses? You don’t get to blame conservatives for the lack of productive conversation, insults or straw-manning. Not even close. It is the Democrat party and the left that is the party of division and hate. It is intentional and designed to increase power, both personally and politically. Reference words like bigot, racist, sexist, ableist, homophobe, nazi, white supremacist, extremist, etc. I agree, the average moderate Democrat isn’t some raging member of the squad. However, you can’t ignore the progressive left’s tactics, language or policies. The Democrat party owns it all. The solution is for the Democrat party to police itself. Not continue to blame republicans.1 point

I still fail to understand the mandate outrage from military members. The military can literally order you on an ALR-extreme suicide mission in some bullshit war halfway around the world. Of course they don't have your best interests at heart. The military can mandate things about your fitness, alcohol consumption, drug use, grooming standards, and they can even put you in jail for things that are perfectly legal in the civilian world. And you signed up for it. No one made you. So if they need you to be vaxxed so the rotator doesnt get held up by a customs shitshow at your deployed location.. tough cookies. Do I think the mandates did anything? No. Do I trust the government or big pharma? Also No. Do I think the vaccine risks are zero? Also no. But the military mandated it for a multitude of reasons, some bad and some less bad. And in the grand scheme of things a 84% increase in a 0.01% chance of maybe getting myocarditis doesn't even register on the scale of things that are actual health dangers. Id believe the "my body is a temple" argument a lot more if it weren't for the bro-science pre-workout powder, twice-a-year cardio regimen, 7 shots at roll call, 3 monsters, and a pack of zyns per day. Because I promise all of those things are far worse for your heart.1 point

Hope everybody keeps their powder dry. Still not confirmed projectiles we’re Russian. Even if they were, it’s doubtful the targets were in Poland. Reports are that rockets struck a farm. Russians aren’t exactly known for their precision targeting these days & may have been trying to hit something more militarily significant inside Ukraine. If it was an accident, I hope the response will be something other than a kinetic one.0 points
