I was definitely a travel agent way before I was a USAF pilot. Hotels for the crew, check. Cars for the crew, check. Oh wait, Andrews rental car place closed at noon. Ok, we'll call three taxis. Taxi driver got arrested trying to come through the gate. Can I hitchhike to the off base rental car center? DTS approver wants to know why I didn't get a u-drive. Ok, hand it all in 14 hours later. What's that Eng? We're broke? Ok, I'll get our cars back. Let's see if the hotel has rooms - wait - it's Friday night. Now I put on my lawyer hat because the load just called from jail.7 points

There are so many kids in this position. It’s heartbreaking. Anyone who champions this trans stuff, especially in kids, is a huge POS and a truly awful human being…and too many of them are teachers, superintendents, etc.7 points

In the Air Force you’re actually a finance officer first, a personnelist second, a logistics officer third, an amateur pharmacist fourth, a security forces officer fifth, a lawyer sixth, and a pilot, oh, I dunno, maybe tenth?, twelfth? Because….all of the people who are supposed to be doing all that other shit have gone home for the day by the time you’re back from your flight.4 points

There were a lot of posts in that thread, so before I pass judgment, was he exploiting his position, taking advantage of children, or otherwise engaging in some sort of predatory behavior? I'm not sure I'll ever understand the people who want to role play animals while having sex, but I can think of far more damaging kinks.3 points

I have a friend that came to the U-2 at Beale in early '94 and retire in Nov 2014, having never PCS'd. Yes he flew the entire time. While he is the extreme, we do have pilots that stay flying at Beale. In many cases, they will PCS to one of our overseas locations for 1-2 years, and then come back. I did 12+ consecutive years at Beale on my third U-2 tour.2 points

I remember hearing guys talk about a new ops building that would be built on our base "within the next few years." That was in 2002 and we still don't have that building...and the project has already been pushed into the next decade. I expect full flight pay for DSGs to go about the same way lol. Free beer....tomorrow.2 points

In UPT, I Launched out in a T-38 as #4 in a 20 second trail departure in crappy weather to about FL200. Broke out on top, picked up a visual on #3, plugged in the blowers and started climbing to catch him. After some time climbing and approaching the top of block, my feeble brain comes to the conclusion something ain't right about the time I vis ID "#3" as an Evergreen International 727. Oops. Rolling the jet on its back, I see the other 3 jets about 4000 feet below me and I'm hoping they didn't notice as I rejoin. All my IP said was "Nice recovery."2 points

Sounds like it’s time for the USAF to initiate a study on the topic. Maybe some surveys. I’m sure it’ll all be fixed right after.2 points

As a mater of fact, yes. Most hospitals have O2 lines running through most of their walls, including the exterior ones and the ones that border the waiting room. Beyond that, it takes one remodel or one re-org for the old ICU wall to become the waiting room wall, and then you've got a significant number of O2 and other hospital-unique and hazardous plumbing running through those walls.1 point

Or they could go work on the staff at ACC, freeing up experienced pilots to go back to their aircraft! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

When the news on Sam Brinton, Deputy Secretary at Dept of Energy for Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition, broke, it brought up "puppy play" / "pup kink" and also had a link to an article on Brinton from earlier this year. https://www.insider.com/police-warrant-nuclear-energy-official-sam-brinton-theft-news-reports-2022-12 Having never heard of this, I read the article to learn more. Quite eye opening. Yes, that's him in the main photo. ClearedHot, you may want to avoid further examination of this subject and not click on the link below https://www.theamericanconservative.com/sam-brinton-kinky-joe-biden-puttin-on-the-dog/1 point

That second part was my point. We accept a whole lot of mandates. But somehow wearing a mask in a hospital is where it becomes tyranny.1 point

I grew up Catholic (I'm a mick bastard). I never once heard race brought up at mass. Never. Can a Priest (preacher for non catholics) get away with saying stop worshiping blackness in 2022? When do black people stop getting a racism pass? If we paid reparations, would the black population be happy? If we give them their 40 acres and a mule? We have all been made painfully aware for the sins of our fathers. How far back do I get to blame others for crimes against my family. I'd like to blame England for forcing my family from Ireland during 1870 (actual year most of my family came over) due to starvation. Who can I blame. Maybe this is why my family is full of drug abuse and alcoholism? Get over your race. We don't get to choose that (as of today). We're all stuck here together for some magical reason in the USA. The sooner we quit making things about race, the better. I have a complete disdain for slavery. I find it very difficult to imagine humans doing that to others. Telling your followers that whiteness is the reason for your problems is a lame excuse to remove responsibility from your actions.1 point

Here let me help you with a few of his quotes: 1. "America, no one can serve God and the military." 2. "No matter what happens next month, more than a third of the nation that would go along with this, is reason to be afraid. America needs to repent for its worship of Whiteness." Herschel is a mess, but this fake "Reverend" is simply a radical. I think to much emphasis was placed on what the polls said about the issues. Yes American's are worried about the economy but they hate Trump more. I also think the importance of the Abortion decision was understated.1 point

Something to distract from the political discussions… https://fireaviation.com/2022/08/28/cal-fire-attaches-video-camera-to-air-tanker/ Mounted a GoPro to the bottom of my tanker this week and got a little fire yesterday to test it out. Just a short clip, but captures the essence of our Initial Attack mission here at CalFire. Direct and timely action to save structures and possibly lives!1 point

It varies from 10 min turns to up to an hour or more depending on how far the incident is from the nearest base. In the S-2, the basic pilot math is 1/3 the distance in minutes each way, so 30 miles away is 10 min or about 25 min turns including ground time. For state incidents, it's usually no more than 30 min due to the location of our bases, but for federal incidents the times can go way up if they are remote. Especially anything on the east side of the Sierras (i.e. Owens Valley) since we have to cross the Sierras for each trip. We had a couple fast moving fires within 5 miles of the base this year where it was straight up 10 min turn arounds including the 3 minutes to load. Think I did 19 drops in about 3.5 on the Hobbs. We had five S-2s on the first fire and pounded the shit out of it that afternoon. Next day, same thing on the second fire. Kept them both to reasonable size and they were done by the morning. We prefer to keep them under 10 acres, but sometimes that's just not in the cards, so beating them in one day with minimal structure loss is a win too. Now, the Scooper aircraft that use lakes can have extremely short turns if there's a useable water body nearby. But that's another subject... This pic is the first fire after only 20-25 minutes after initial report...explosive to say the least. Terrain and up canyon winds were fueling it. We held it on the ridge to the left and stopped it in the small valley center-right of the pic. View is basically from downwind leg at the airport. It's a fun and rewarding job when you get to make an impact and see results!1 point
