You and I have agreed and disagreed on a lot, and I commended your ability to change your mind. But this part gets to the crux of the issue, and why I think your assessment is so wrong. The ability to make decisions in an environment of incomplete information is quite literally definitive of intelligence and leadership. There's a whole lot of people right now throwing their hands up in the air and saying " well we just didn't know," but that's bullshit. Part of the job is not knowing, and being able to accurately assess and communicate that lack of knowledge, and recognize that without perfect information, your ability to compel others should be equally limited. This is foundational stuff to the way our government was designed and is supposed to work. The "experts" lied. Flat out. I'm including using intentionally misleading language. There are plenty of examples in this thread. But worse than lying about things they knew (to cover their asses), they lied about what they didn't know. They did so because they knew we-the-people wouldn't have done what they commanded if it was based on a hunch. But it was, and unfortunately (as any real scientist would admit) when you act on a hunch, you'll be wrong more often than not. So the point isn't "we would have done things differently if we had better information." The point is "will we do things differently the next time we have a crisis with little available information?" Based on the experts skittering like cockroaches into the shadows to avoid responsibility, and a whole bunch of well-meaning Americans seeking to look the other way because their "team" was the one that got it so incredibly wrong, I'm not sure we've learned much at all. Maybe when the 2018-2019 babies hit their teenage years, and we see the devastation wrought by depriving them of the irreplaceable socialization training needed between the ages of 2-4, we will have that conversation. But saying "hey, you didn't know anything either, we were all in the dark" doesn't cut it. How you act in the dark is what matters... (giggity). Again, not directed specifically at you, but I think you're missing the point. It's not that they were wrong, it's what they forced us to do while they were (knowingly) wrong.6 points

@FLEA I remember summer 2020 talking about these aspects of Covid - it’s amazing how so many people said I (and others like me with critical thinking capability) we’re out to lunch, dangerous, etc. Complete silence from those same people who have been proven 100% wrong. I don’t hold grudges, so whatever, but I’ll still remember how some individuals in my life were horrendously wrong, shit on those who disagreed, and have made zero acknowledgment about it. Says something about their character.5 points

🥃 Sorry, I won't hand-waive history, especially when that history demonstrates the double standard of justice your party has imposed on society. Hillary was given a pass on her handling of classified, that is a crime we should all remember, especially when we see how the other side has been treated. I am not so sure, with Biden being allowed to return to the scene of the crime, his lawyers, not LEO, finding more classified tells me this Special Counsel is already giving a double standard. Hur's first action after appointment should have been to have LEO search all properties and residences and he certainly should not have allowed Biden into that house until that task was complete. But that's just me asking for fairness and an equal standard of justice.3 points

Do you think it is fair that Biden's attorney's should be the one doing the search? Fair would be the FBI raiding Biden's home and offices period dot.2 points
-
So given the fact he and his representative mouth pieces keeping finding new documents we should have the FBI thoroughly check all his properties for them right? In raid jackets? The disparity between the two and the reaction of government agents is pretty damn stark. The National Archives at least knew and accounted for what was in Trumps office, his lawyers said they returned it all, and when it was discovered there was more they executed a raid on a secret service guarded residence. Meanwhile nobody has a clue Biden has this crap, nobody has bothered to ask, they discover it, they call it good…. And we just accept that? How is one set of A-hole lawyers allowed to call their search complete and the others has to be raided and double checked by the FBI? We literally have no accountable tracking for Biden’s documents, and they keep just magically finding more. Obviously prudence and transparency would demand at best a search by government agencies not his personal lawyers. Both these parties were negligent with the handling and storage of classified documents. Only one party was insinuated as to be doing something nefarious with them (selling them was a media narrative for a minute) while the other gets a free hand of oh no big deal it’s just a few pages of stuff that never should have been outside a secure environment….. I know nothing about the specifics of how airbosses run air shows, so please excuse the following ignorance. Why are demos like this ran by a guy telling everyone what to do? In the mil we execute far more complex shit with far greater risks and way more aircraft, all without anyone directing our every move. We plan, brief, and execute with a decon plan. Seems the airboss directing things should be only as required to avoid an impending safety issue or gameplan about to go awry. The actual show execution should be done without airboss inject and IAW a plan that includes contracts and decon.2 points

How do we create a viable 3rd party. Not one that just siphons votes, one that actually wins elections. I wish I had that answer.2 points

And that’s the excuse you tell yourself to feel better. Despite this entire reply I disagree with, I will give credit to you changing your viewpoints over time. I am not including you personally (I know we had several back and forth in the past) in my above comment. In fact, you are the opposite of the people I described. To you’re overarching statement that it was pure guessing optimism with no info (paraphrasing), completely disagree. It was critical thinking based on observation, data (yes there was data that was rapidly coming out by summer, but it was suppressed heavily), and unemotional/logical thought process. Throughout the first 2 years tens of millions of people called it 100% time and again, they were labeled all sorts of things. No, it is not logical for you to argue all of them had no SA and just got lucky that they were completely right, it is logical they executed as stated above and everyone else made errors in judgement (trusted garbage lies, illogical arguments, etc.), thought processes, and allowed emotion to rule over logic. Zero stones cast at those who came around and acknowledged what had transpired.2 points

Nah bud you didn't have the SA. Not we, you. Everyone else did and was trying to explain that--and we were examining public data with a finer degree of granularity and recognized the data available was based on assumptions that weren't compelling enough to justify the length of policy measures being made. This wasn't high level college statistics. It was basic data 101. Instead we were gaslighted, shut down and dismissed. You're advocacy permanently damaged lives and will go on to upset many more as we walk into a recession that will likely see a growth in homeless populations, and a correspondent rise of substance abuse. Trying to dismiss yourself of responsibility for it isn't going to fly.1 point

First and foremost, concerning the number of guns I allegedly may or may not have.... Secondly, for those of us who live in free states, there are numerous ways to legally obtain firearms without any record. The ATF is only notified if a FFL is involved. Despite the best attempts of the Federal government, there is no documentation needed during private sale between law-abiding citizens in places which respect the Constitution. Given that fact, despite having a 4473, the ATF has no means by which they can claim a person still possesses a particular firearm. As mentioned, it could now be owned by another individual thru a private sale (no bill of sale or 4473 required). It could also have been lost through the aforementioned nautical mishap. Many free states do not even require an individual to report the loss or theft of a firearm. All those facts are what drive liberals and the Feds crazy, and false claims these weapons are driving up crime rates are the basis for the hype they are using to convince the uninitiated such measures as registering shoulder stocks are the solution. We all know there is no connection between such weapons and crime, and the GCA, FOPA (so conveniently named!) and others are a joke. Hard evidence proves it, but let's not distract ourselves or anyone else with the facts! And, of course, it's all misdirected. Research has proven time and time again such measures do absolutely nothing to reduce crime rates. Per RAND, the 1994–2004 AWB (another conveniently-named law) there was "inconclusive evidence" for any effect of assault weapon and high-capacity magazine bans on mass shootings and violent crime. A 2017 review also found there was no evidence that the Federal Assault Weapons Ban had a significant effect on firearm homicides. A research report commissioned by the National Institute of Justice found if the ban was renewed, the effects on gun violence would likely be small and perhaps too small for reliable measurement, because rifles in general, including rifles referred to as "assault rifles" or "assault weapons," are rarely used in gun crimes. The Columbine High School massacre, in which two shooters murdered 13 people, occurred while the ban was in place. I'll support such gun laws when they target the appropriate people, criminals; not ones that make criminals out of law-abiding citizens!1 point

But that is not what is happening. 1. Biden's lawyers have been doing the searches for the past two months and apparently the lawyers doing the first two rounds of searches did not have a clearance. 2. When the AG knew about Trump's issues it was immediately leaked and released, but the AG sat on the Biden story for two MONTHS! Even more ludicrous, he knew about Biden' situation the day he stepped to the microphone and appointed a Special Counsel to investigate Trump's classified. How do you just hand-waive this away? Nuance is the word, I don't know when Trump's folks moved the classified to Mar Lago, if he was still President then legally it is a different situation as he was the de-classification authority. Again, I think that is a shitty defense and ultimately wrong but as it relates to the law he has a push-back argument. Regardless the records act would kick in and he should return everything. Biden's situation is far worse "legally", he was not the declassification authority, he broke the same records act, he had TSI/SCI unguarded in his garage for years, exponentially worse in my opinion as we don't know who had access to his garage, or his office space that was paid for by the Chinese. I am a fairness kind of guy, whatever you do, do it equally to both sides and for a great many years through multiple incidents of mishandled classified that simply has not happened, to say otherwise is pure tripe.1 point

AGREED! But guess what brother....it ain't! I have yet to see a load of FBI agents search all of Biden's properties. In fact, he was allowed to return to his home (a potential crime scene), AND THEY found MORE while he was there. Why are his attorneys being allowed to conduct the search...yet ANOTHER double standard you don't want to admit. Let him cook, with Biden's attorneys doing the search....oh you mean cook the books, I get it. The way you spin things, you might want to give up the flying gig and ask Jean-Pierre to step aside. 😆1 point

"A stabilizing brace is an attachment to a pistol that functionally turns it into a short-barreled rifle, similar to a sawed-off shotgun. Such weapons are considered particularly deadly as they offer the power of a traditional rifle, but are much easier to conceal." Yes, a stabilizing attachment that marginally increases accuracy and drastically decreases concealability of a short range pistol thereby turns said pistol into a sawed off shotgun, the most unstable of all firearms, and somehow increased the "power" to that of a rifle without changing the ammunition, muzzle velocity, or ballistics... So these attachments turn a pistol into concealable sawed off shotrifle?1 point

Some of these psychos are on this very forum. They were cheering/hoping all those against covid shots would have their careers ruined and/or booted from the military. I hope I can get our guy back to training in time to give a big fuck you to any of his former CCs who treated him like a piece of shit when they pulled him from the B-Course with a few rides to go. I'm also hoping the government is force to back pay him, though I'm not holding my breath. I have absolutely zero confidence that there will be much accountability for the stupid decisions made over the last few years. Fuck, even the memo states it only protects those "currently in the military." I'd imagine that some lawsuits will follow and some may get back in (though I'm not sure why they'd want to) or at least get some form of payout. This is my shocked face... But holy hell, a few years ago, you didn't want to be the guy who even hinted at this. "You clearly don't follow the science!" "...why do you want to kill my kids/parents?!?!!??!?" How many people did we kill via depression because of the lockdowns? Maybe it didn't make blimp on the chart, but it might be an interesting stat to see.1 point

I found out today that 20 of the 26 alternates are UPT. They wouldn't tell me rack and stack or how many of the 6 left are CSO, ABM, or URT. If Russia isn't a threat, why do we have a military? Just China? Or are we worried about South Africa? Brazil? World's most expensive military just to counter Al Queda? Russia must be considered a threat if you accept at face value that we have a military due to foreign threats and not just for defense contractors. And if the size of our military (and thus the cost) is determined by the scale of our adversaries, wouldn't we be better if with weaker enemies, allowing for a smaller military?1 point

Well they were much more so before they voluntarily destroyed a large chunk of their armed forces and young male population attempting in vain to annex a neighboring country that decided instead, “The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.” 🇺🇦 But if you don't actually think a leader like Putin with the energy and military power of a country like Russia was a threat to the U.S. in any way and that we shouldn't happily assist them with stepping on every rake and landmine in Ukraine for pennies on the dollar...I don't know what to tell ya. $48B to Ukraine out of $6.3T in federal expenditures in 2022 is 0.7%. To help significantly kneecap one of our biggest geopolitical opponents. It would be a bargain at 10x the cost! Literally, if we could kneecap the Chinese military and oppressive CCP leadership in the same way and essentially guaranteed unfettered US & allied global dominance for a generation + for $1T and zero American lives lost, I would sign the check myself.1 point

We have the best funded, most capable military in the world and are allied with most of the other powerful players. Russia, a primary antagonist, is actively destroying their military as we speak due to extremely poor policy choices and battlefield performance, which is great news for us. China has a fragile and IMHO inferior political system, a worrying short- to medium-term economic outlook due to awful COVID policies, and a massive demographic problem that will take decades to unwind. DoD topline numbers are the highest they’ve ever been, even while being a lower % of GDP, which I see as a good thing. Because we are so much wealthier than in the past and also in comparison to our adversaries, we can significantly outclass them even while enjoying more bread & butter to go along with all those beans & bullets. Dems are almost 100% united behind supporting Ukraine’s democratic government and independence from a belligerent and invading neighbor. The GOP has some very notable fissures on the issue and some members who want to, IMHO, hang Ukraine out to dry and capitulate to Putin. The last DoD budget was historically high and well above even what the DoD itself asked for, and that was with trifecta Dem control. Now with a GOP House there’s talk of looming cuts. Some old assumptions about where the parties stand on robust defense spending and strong international relations may need to be reassessed if y’all haven’t updated yours recently. 🇺🇸🇺🇦 I for one welcome a coalition between mainstream Dems and Republicans to box out the mostly hapless left-wing tankies and the MAGA flavored right-wing isolationists, who unfortunately make up a sizable chunk of the GOP right now. They’re both wrong and America needs to remain strong and active on the international scene UFN.1 point
-
100%. No matter how much we've given Ukraine, it's a fraction of our annual DoD budget. We are witnessing the wholesale destruction of a near-peer's military capability with zero US lives spent. It would be a bargain at twice the price.1 point

I can think of a few thousand very well appointed resort rooms and some very nice winter coats from dozens of overpriced ski shops that could be provided to those migrants free of charge! That might mitigate those cold temps if the left was actually serious about helping people. But we both know that would never happen. Their care for fellow humans extends precisely as far as the "coexist" bumper stickers and "hate has no place here" lawn signs.. and not an inch farther. Their nimby-ism is on full display when they cry 'logistics' over 50 people in Martha's Vineyard or even the possibility of a few migrants in aspen while conveniently ignoring the absolute shitshow they've forced on del rio for literal years. Out of sight out of mind I guess. Oh wait! and when they do pay attention to the border they publish literally false stories slandering border patrol for supposedly "whipping" migrants from horseback based on a single misleading photo. I have zero sympathy for the flaming hypocrisy of the left on the immigration issue. They've been using these immigrants as human pawns to bludgeon the right for decades while completely avoiding any consequences for their virtue signaling sanctuary city and amnesty policies.1 point
